They open daily at 5pm (except for Saturday, when they open at 9am). I dropped in on a Sunday evening. I purchased a pint (Sculpin IPA @ $9.00) and watched a bit of Sunday Night Football. The bar tender was good. If you want to be left alone; she'll leave you alone. If you want someone to chat with, she's capable of good conversation. This is a classic neighborhood bar. Some might call it a dive bar--but it's too neat and clean to qualify as a true dive bar. The regulars seem to keep to themselves; but they do not come across as unfriendly nor territorial. It's a good safe place to get a drink.

It was SO hot and uncomfortable that we honestly couldn't even enjoy ourselves, which was really disappointing considering we came out specifically to celebrate her birthday. It was also pretty dead when we got there, but to be fair, we did go a little earlier so I can't really judge the atmosphere too much based on that. The biggest issue was definitely the temperature. When it's over 100° outside, the last thing you want is to walk into a place expecting to cool down and still feel like you're sitting in the heat. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else because none of us wanted to stay. I really wanted to like this place and maybe I'd give it another chance on a different day, but based on this experience it was definitely disappointing, especially for a birthday celebration.

I tried the Cordon Bleu chicken sliders- they were fine, nothing stand out. Their seasonal menu was very interesting and the butternut squash salad was good, but again, pretty small in portion. Brussel sprouts were delish, but also small in portion. Drinks are a standout though! The bartenders are super friendly and my drink (the ravens claw) was very strong. The props and projections were fun little details that activated the space! Would've enjoyed it more if we were in a more optimal area. Overall it was fun because of the people I was with, so I'd give this overall experience a 3.5! If they weren't there, I'd give a solid 3 stars. I'm open to trying this place again and hoping for a better experience next time.

Well, I happen to have found one and it's in Fullerton of all places. That's right, Fullerton, not Los Angeles, nor Hollywood nor some pop-culturally over-hyped city. What makes The Blue Door a good dive bar? First, there's earned consistency & routine. The drinks won't always be made well, or the bartender won't always be attentive but if you come a few times, you'll soon know at what time and day the drinks are made properly by knowing the schedules of the bartenders. Secondly, the drinks are stiff, the service is friendly and nobody bothers you unless you bother them. The atmosphere goes from lively and loud to quiet and solitary, again depending upon when you visit. Lastly, they're open from 6:00AM-2:00AM. They're not just there when the hipsters are around, they're there for you whenever you make the bad decision of using alcohol as an anesthetic. I will not be "editing" or removing my post just because I was sent a threatening email. If I were to do that, THAT would be embellishing the truth. Nothing I stated was exaggerated. It's my opinion and who is Yelp to tell me otherwise or to try to correct my review? I responded to Yelp via email and told them that if I'm ever sent another threatening email due to a bad review I left, I will be forwarding it to my attorney. Maybe it was the work "fuck" that triggered the email from Yelp, but this was a dive bar review. Far worse goes on there than the "F" word. We are adults. We can handle a curse word. I stand by my review so sue me then.

And I felt like they charge pretty decent hourly rate, better than some of the other billiards in the area.
