I got the scone-which: an open face egg and cheese on a really good scone (I think jalapeño and cheese) , this was good and I imagine I'd be even better before traveling. Cups and cakes is a small shop that offers baked goods and juices. The customer service was courteous and offered assistance immediately upon arrival. I took home a chewy chocolate chip cookie and prepackaged protein bar and energy bar. The cookie was just okay - I absolutely LOVE chewy cookies and only about a 1.5" diameter of it was chewy and it was quite crumbly. It did have a nice melted butter and sugar taste too it though. My very picky 9 year old friend devoured the chocolate protein bar, which I assume means it was yummy snack, and kept him full for three hours. I have yet to try the energy bar, but look forward to it being my road snack as I drive home. read more

I usually go to Cups and Cakes for their famous scones (Cranberries orange is my favorite), baby cakes or the delicious devil dog for the mister. When time came to choose a bakery for my daughter's shower I did not hesitate. Always aware of the latest trends (I am not), Denise and her team prepared a beautiful cake and surprised me with the cutest placement cookies. I am very particular about cake. I know what I like and what I don't like but I have never felt so inclined to write a review about something I loved like this. I ordered a 12 inch Unicorn cake for my daughter's birthday. It was a vanilla funfetti 2 layer cake with vanilla buttercream. We had about 40 adults and 30 kids at the party. I have NEVER had so many people come up to me and say how amazing a cake was. People stayed until midnight eating this cake. People came back to my house the next day asking for MORE cake. People made to go plates of cake. I am thoroughly impressed and Cups and Cakes gets my stamp of approval. Husband's bday is in a few weeks and at his request, "ORDER THAT CAKE AGAIN". and I did! I discovered Cups & Cakes by searching local bakeries that would bake a special order cake. I could not be happier that I stumbled upon this little gem! They were so helpful and sweet from the minute I asked for their help, so patient to listen to every detail I requested. They even allow you to email pictures for screen prints! The owner Denise is so sweet and clearly very talented! Thank you everyone that helped to make our special birthday that much more memorable! The food is old and stale. I ordered a birthday cake for myself. I wanted billows of butter cream. Instead they gave me a boring watered down with vanilla cake that tasted several days old. I ordered a 24 oz smoothie with nothing more than blueberries. Strawberries, half of banana and a little almond milk. That 24oz drink cost nearly, GET THIS, $15 (FIFTEEN) dollars!!!!!! And they didn't fill it to the top either. I asked for wedding soup that was on the menu. $10 got me 1 quart of greasy disgusting soup with orzo pasta that was sitting in the fridge. One person ladled the greasy substance in a container while another worker plopped a handful of cold orzo pasta into the middle of the soup so it heats up. I threw it out as soon as I opened it up at home. DISGUSTING. Also, I rarely get coffee at this place but when I do, its cold and I have stomach problems after drinking it. Turns out a friend of mine had the same issues after drinking this coffee. I love watching business take off. I'm a huge advocate of small business. I gave this place so many chances, but I'm telling you AVOID THIS PLACE. Yes they are very friendly here, but they are over priced. The food is old and, in my opinion based on my experience, unhealthy. I can't imagine this place will stay open much longer. If they are using old food and cutting corners, that could only mean managerial and financial problems in the background. read more

Ordered a 6 inch black and white cake -one white layer and one chocolate layer - vanilla butter cream for $45.00! Too much icing and very little cake. Buttercream is thick and gritty. Ordered fresh strawberries for the filling - I think it was 1 strawberry sliced very thin. Flower decoration was thick and not pretty. The top of the box could not close - decoration would get squished. For $45 you should get a box that is the right size. Not a good tasting cake. Not pretty. $45 for a SIX INCH CAKE. The birthday cake that I ordered for my daughter's 25th birthday was a HUGE disappointment!!!! I needed a GF cake otherwise i would never have taken it from them! It looked like the most pathetic birthday cake - it was something thrown together with colors from Thanksgiving - rusty colored roses and brown writing???? How does that say Happy Birthday!!! When I ordered this cake i asked if we could get the lovely pink roses pictured on the cupcakes on their website - I had to say it more than once since the person taking the order kept referring to the custom cakes instead! Needless to say we did not get either - nothing that I had inquired about - possibility of adding a few roses to the side of the cake - colorful decorating - none of this was done. How terrible to have to present this to my daughter in front of our family for her birthday - it was an insult added to the injury of their extreme pricing as well. Never again!!!!! read more

I really wanted to love this shop due to it's convenience and proximity...I stopped in with a couple of friends and we tried a few different cup cakes. They were good and on par though with cupcake shops in Red Bank that have a bigger selection and are less expensive. The cup cakes were tiny and $3.00 a piece. While there I also picked up a box of 10 cupcakes to drop off at my daughter's friends house and was surprised at the price exceeding $30.00....However, I try every chance I get to give small shop owners my business. These days I really think to compete one has to really wow their Customer's to ensure repeat business. Maybe try making the cupcakes bigger so one does not feel like they are over paying (I see some other reviews saying the same) or be creative with intricate decorating and ensure the quality/taste is excellent not just good (unless the shop is not competing for business but just one's fancy).....Perhaps, I may have been there on an off day so I may try them again at some point. For now Ye Old Pie Shop in L.S. will remain my go to when needing to pick something up for company or friends. read more
