So…read moreI'm taking my pics the cashier walks out from behind the counter and says no pics and stood there as I deleted them. As I've deleted all of them, she said delete more but there are no more pics to delete...wth. This is normally my go to place for meat pies and I kind of wanted to brush it off, so as I'm paying for my 2 potato top pies, she asks where I'm from. I told her I'm from America, she said no. Uhh...I think I know where I'm from...so she says no you're from China, I told her again that I'm from America. She said Americans have respect and that I'm from China and that she could also report me. I said go ahead, you can report me. I walked out feeling the crap, 2 potato top pies, & my change. If only she had asked me about my nationality before and accused me for lying and making me feel like shit, I would have walked out without buying anything. Now, I can no longer eat their pies. I also wish I had a witness to at least see how that place treats people.

I picked a mini meat pie and a cherry tart for myself, the bf had the carrot cake and a strawberry rhubarb pie. Let me just put it out here that Kiwi pie is not something which I enjoy. But the mini beef mince pie from this place was outstanding - no gelatinous, overly salty, mushy filling here. It was a delicious ground beef with nice spices all stuffed in a flaky pie crust. I'm definitely going for the regular size pie next time I visit. The sweet desserts were really good as well, I loved my cherry tart. Although the bakery is small and a bit unassuming, they sweet and savoury baked goods from wall to wall really pack a punch! One of the cutest things I saw were these baby marshmallow snowmen. I was feeling adventurous and strayed from my normal mince and cheese pie and went for the chicken, cranberry and bleu cheese pie. The flaky, butter crust encapsulated the well-seasoned and balance filling and really hit the spot for a brekky on-the-go. I also couldn't help but get an apple donut as well which had AMPLE filling and the fresh fried dough taste that is simply intoxicating. Category winner, Steak and Cheese, is the pie I ordered, at $4.00 it is a little beauty. The pastry is delicately flakey and perfectly crisp, the filling is perfectly flavoured and balanced. Well deserving of its Gold accolade. There is a whole range of other pie flavours like bacon and egg, potato top, chicken, mince etc and you can bet they would also taste delicious. You can order main meals from the blackboard menu if you prefer non counter fare. Their range of sweet cakes and treats looked fabulous, in all a great place to grab a bite. When we got to top well I was impressed. quite a large selection, nice looking pies, friendly employees. The food I got lived up to both the praise heaped on it by my friend and the initial impression it made on me, with the pie I got full of meat and cheese, instead of a terrible lumpy gravy. Meat pies are second on the list for the ravenous teenagers after school and never are they disappointed here. However this one redeems itself on the sweet side as their cakes and pastries are second to none, yummy. Saturday morning when we are out and about after sports or dancing, a trip to the bread shop completes our lunch.

The Boston Bakery (for which I have no idea why it is named after a city in the States!), is quite unassuming and from the outside isn't very distinguishable from any other old school bakery. Except that first of all the family that run it are the loveliest people and if you're lucky their little super adorable daughter will run the EFTPOS machine for your purchase. They also cherish their regulars; for example my partner used to be a regular and then moved overseas for 3 years and they still remembered her after all that time! And then there's the pies, oh sweet sweet delicious heaven-sent morsels of delight! They have the standard fare which drive a hard bargain at $3.60, but then they also have 'fancy' pies for $4.20 which include rockstar gems like Steak, Mushroom, Bacon and Cheese, or Chicken, Camembert and Cranberry, or Steak and Kumara, or Butter Chicken and Broccoli. My personal favs are the first 2 aforementioned pies and I really have to discipline myself as I have to walk past the Boston Bakery twice a day, 5 days a week. We had in particular the Baked Vanilla Cheesecake which was outstanding. They have plenty more from which you can order. The actual place is only open to the public from Wednesday to Saturday but if you want you can order and pick up any day except for Sunday when closed. If you do walk in on the Wednesday to Saturday opening times they have a selection of tarts, cakes etc on display but it may not be too extensive as the owner told me they cater mostly for non public customers so do not get too carried away with baking too much for selling on site. Overall highly recommend and totally worth the trip out west for!!

I used to just love their steak 'n' cheese pies of old, but thought I'd try one today for old times sake. All in all, it was a good pie. I don't like flaky pastry in a pie...I'm more of a short crust fan. It doesn't fall apart when being gobbled at speed nor does it make a huge mess while driving. The pie I got was piping hot. There was a couple of steak which had been seasoned well. The rest of the filling was gravy and melted cheese. Very tasty but could have don with more steak. I mean, I paid for a steak 'n' cheese, not gravy 'n' cheese. I bought an afghan because they looked scrumptious. Unfortunately, it was not as good as it looked. Lastly, I happened to buy a banana and caramel tart. I'm more of a custard pie fan. This was no tart, it was too big. Plus it had no hallmarks of a tart. What it was though, was a banoffee pie. A miniature one. If you love banoffee, then this is the treat for you. Hell, I don't even like banoffee pie. I love this one from the Westside Bakehouse. And I'll make sure I pop in to buy the "BANANA CARAMEL TART."
