I had to take a moment to write a review for Bluebells Cakery, in conjunction with Rose Tinted Flowers and their team. Honestly, if I could give them 10 stars, I would. It is incredibly rare to find a business that will go the extra mile to assist a customer but Bluebells Cakery & Rose Tinted exemplifies customer service! I'm so impressed with their business and the quality of their cakes. To provide some background, our daughter was turning 21 and is attending Uni in Auckland, though we live in the States. Since we couldn't be there to help her celebrate, I decided to find something that would let her know we were thinking of her and wished we could be there. I searched awhile online and came across Rose Tinted Flowers. I was immediately impressed with the beauty of the floral arrangements, as they were not the typical, generic flowers you often see online. Though they normally have a relationship with another bakery, Bluebells Cakery, really came through for us, on this particular day. I placed our order online, which was super easy to navigate and selected my delivery date. Shortly after, I received a confirmation of my order. Yay! Shortly after that, I received an incredibly thoughtful email, explaining that the day for my delivery was a holiday for NZ (Waitangi Day) and that the OTHER bakery would be closed. Hmm. What to do??? So, the florist offered me another option and I emailed back explaining that we were in a tricky spot, since I couldn't very well hand deliver a cake, as we do not live in NZ and since it was an important milestone for our daughter & was wondering if they could recommend another bakery. Amy @RoseTintedFlowers reached out and recommended Bluebells Cakery. They worked together to make this a seamless experience and handled all of the communication and made the delivery arrangements, end-to-end. Though this was a unique situation, they set it up so that the flowers and cake could still be delivered together!! I couldn't believe the thoughtfulness and stellar customer service! They went completely above and beyond! Our daughter received the flowers and cake and was thrilled! She even took the cake to Whitianga to share with family and friends and they raved about how delicious the cake tasted!! I cannot say enough good things about this company, their professionalism, willingness to problem solve, take on a bit of a challenge AND during Covid AND on a holiday! This review is for their macarons. I was excited to try them and bought the package of 6 for $22. I got 5 different flavors: chocolate, coffee, lemon, raspberry, and fairy bread. They were the worst macarons I've ever eaten. All of them basically tasted the same; they were sugar with a bit of the flavor they were named after. The lemon and raspberry tasted very artificial. I can't comment on anything else they make, but the macarons were so bad that I will never buy anything from them ever again. read more

Dee-lish! Brought Miss 4 here for a daddy-daughter day out. She loved the decor but more importantly, she absolutely loved her soy hot choc, choc-raspberry loaf and two macarons! Miss 4 is very particular about her soy hot choc and baked goods. This was our first visit to a bluebells bakery, the new store being in Eden Terrace. I came here as a result of seeing fellow yelpers checking in. ;-) The cake loaf we had was berry tasty, moist and the icing was divine. I had to fight Miss 4 for a taste! The hot choc I had was okay. I really liked the decor. When next I need a cake for a special occasion, I'll contact Bluebells. Thoroughly impressed with the baked goods I've eaten so far. A whole heap of yum.. We regularly pop in to the Hillsborough branch as it's conveniently located next to the south western motorway and has a minimal but handy car park in the front. Always good coffee and a great selection of sweets and savoury.. we never really get in to cupcakes yet that is what they're know for.. hmm.. Not much space though, so you really have to choose your times if you want to dine in - though they make the most of the space they have. Great in and out spot. read more

I was first introduced to Bluebells few years ago before they were in vogue during their market and hightea days. Back then I thought their cupcakes were cute but dense and overly sweet. Considering my own experience it came as a surprise to hear them being hailed as the best cupcakes in town. Not being the one to judge without trying, I followed the road to Bluebells Cakery. My first impression was, can this place get any smaller? Or more adorable?! White washed, coloured chairs and perfectly staked canisters and jars of I don't know what but they looked so well together. The place was buzzing, few people picked up pre-ordered cakes. Another couple said how they fell in love with them on instagram and were so excited to be there. It was the perfect way to spend an afternoon watching the excitment on peoples faces. Our lamington arrived followed by a strawberry cupcake and brownies. Two flat whites and a mocha as usual. The coffee was pleasent. The rest unfortunately wasn't. My lamington was dry, the cupcake and brownie were super dense and dry. I don't know if they bake things freshly but it certainly didn't taste like they did today. There was also a very limited selection of savouries, but I guess this isn't their claim to fame anyway. first of all - HOW CUTE IS THIS PLACE!! I thought I'd died and went to bakery heaven when I walked in, being greeted by fresh, natural light, a clean atmosphere filled with plants, and a big coffee machine next to a shelf full of beautiful (and I mean BEAUTIFUL) cupcakes and baked goods. The cupcakes looked all cute and homemade, not any of that swirly frosting mountain crap. I was especially drawn to an adorable little red velvet cupcake sitting right in the middle of the shelf, just begging to be gifted. I just moved to the area and was just looking for some decent coffee, but I'm pretty sure I've found something more dangerous. I ordered my typical soy cappucino and while I was waiting, I imagined how happy my boyfriend would be when I gave him a little cupcake after work. I ended up going back to the register after getting my coffee to go and ordering the red velvet cupcake, complete with a little edible heart on top. Seriously, that cupcake could not be any more precious. I carried my cupcake and my coffee home and drank that baby while sitting in my kitchen. I was surprised at the quality of the coffee - it's freaking fabulous - as this place looks more like a cupcakery than a coffee shop, but it's good to know they can do both very well. My boyfriend was indeed surprised when I handed him a little bakery box upon getting home from work, and he ate that cupcake in under 60 seconds. He loved it! The only down side of this place is that they have ZERO vegan options. This is 2018!! I feel like most places should have at least a couple options, especially a place like this where they had shelves full of different cupcakes and slices and other bakery foods. Aside from having 0 vegan baked good options (which is prob better for my wallet and waistline anyway), I will definitely be back for more soy cappuccinos! Yep pretty good here ! Located in a non descript block of shops on Hillsborough Road you would only know about it if you were familiar with the area . I had a flat white , afghan and a chicken and cucumber roll toasted . All in all pretty good, not amazing like stop what your doing and get here but good in a high standard way . So while this bakery might be "on fleek " I'm hoping the trend of just honest to goodness food stays true here and they just get better . read more

Bluebells Cakery is now my new local cake stall living a 5min walk away which is dangerous eek. I finally made it here after completing my Dry July. I couldn't believe how little the shop is. Tucked in a random set of shops on Hillsborough Road its definitely a great place to pick up an afternoon treat for takeaway. There are only a couple of sharing tables - one outside, one inside. Bluebells has made its rep for its cupcakes, and they do not disappoint. I bought a small selection for my workies purely so I could try more without feeling guilty haha. I don't like coffee but I took a small bite of the coffee cupcake and its not overpowering so don't be afraid to try this one because it has a great texture with walnut mixed in the batter. If you are a chocolate lover, get the lamington cake, its decadent and moist without being overly sweet and has a cheeky jam filling. My favourite choice was the strawberry cream yoyo. The yoyo just crumbles and is incredibly light. The filling isn't overly sweet and its is filled in a good proportion to the cookie. Just order this one!! My favourite sweet delight is brownie and I was sadden by this one as the texture wasn't quite right. It was just a bit dense and missed that crunch. If someone told me it was a choc rasp cake it would be perfect. It's a shame because the flavour combination is great - but choc and rasp go hand in hand. Overall the cupcakes really don't disappoint and the value for money is extremely worth it for size and use of quality ingredients. I def recommend Bluebells! Great sweet treats! It was only months after hearing about Bluebells Cakery that I finally made the move- and it wasn't a moment too soon. I first experienced Bluebells Cakery at the La Cigale markets on a Saturday morning and fell in love. Their beautiful cupcakes and Russian fudge made me a life-long fan. After visiting the store and a bit more research, I ordered a cake for my sister's 18th birthday. It came out perfectly and Karla, the owner, did a wonderful job. There are many photos online of Karla's work, but you'll need to make the trip to the Hillsborough store to see it in person- photos just do not do their products justice. Located in the neighbourhood, I've come here quite a few times to pick up something to eat when I'm hungry. I usually come here for the savory stuff, but they do have a limited amount of it, and often run out in the late afternoon. Their cupcakes, what they are famous for, also often run out in the afternoon. Their staff are all quite friendly, and interior decor is very cute, but due to the size of the store it can get crowded pretty fast. They also have other items on sale, ie their cookbook, tea bags/leaves etc. Now on to the food. I grabbed a sandwich with some champaign ham and other fillings (see photo). I was surprised today there were quite a bit of savory stuff left to choose from as I went there quite late. Bun was good, got a crunch on the outside and just the right texture (not too chewy) on the inside. I've previously had their other savory sandwiches, the bun can be a hit or miss, either too hard, chewy or occasionally greasy. The filling included thick slice of ham, some baby green vege, cheese, sauce and caramelized onions. The taste of it was what you would expect - a decent sandwich. We came in to see Karla for a wedding consultation and she was able to accommodate us on very short notice, which was hugely appreciated. Pros: * Despite being VERY busy, Karla, went out of her way to be hospitable and as focused as she could during the consultation. * Great website. * Accommodating on short notice. * Red Velvet cake was moist and one of the best we had tried. * Karla packed up the few other samples of possible flavor samples for us to take home to try. Cons: * Ordered an iced mocha and it was bad enough that after two sips I abandoned it. * Cream cheese icing was SUPER sweet (even for someone like myself with a chronic sweet tooth). * Only do buttercream type icings, which made it logistically difficult for us to transport cake 2.5 hours to wedding location. She mentioned that the cupcake recipe wouldn't be exactly the same as the cakes, but even the few we tried still left us wanting more. Looking at the other items in the shop, I imagine they have some wonderful baked goods. However, today after tasting two other cake shops in the area, we felt they were a bit outmatched. For all the hype I've read about Bluebells cakery, it doesn't meet expectations.While the shop itself is lovely and seems like a Pininterest dream (french chic and milk bottles anyone?), I can't say the same about the food. Went in during the weekend to try their donuts, to find they were all out so we preordered some for the next day. At $5 each, these donuts are not cheap so I was expecting something amazing but what I got instead was incredibly lackluster. Dough was oily, soggy and stodgy and left big grease spots on the cardboard box. We also tried their friands, which were very bland and had a very underwhelming almond taste but their afghans were delicious and chocolatey. Not sure if they are overwhelmed by their increased popularity from their beaming review in the NZ Herald (it was included in the top 4 Auckland bakeries in Canvas) and standards have dropped or if it is a matter of hype over reality. Bluebells cakery is the home of sweet delights in the Auckland suburb of Hillsborough. Their shop is super cute and definitely the prettiest in the block! You can get a cup of coffee as well as any number of treats. I rate the amazing russian fudge and coconut ice for $2 a piece. I took some along to a girls night for a treat and it was a hit! (Was gonna pass it off as my own, but I confessed that I had not actually made it). I have not yet tried many of the cupcakes but there have been some delicious flavours shown on their Facebook page recently. I discovered bluebells on Instagram! I was following another local cake maker and saw bluebells account on their page. I saw that they had a store in Hillsborough and just had to pay a visit. When I got there, I was pleased to see they have free parking right outside the store, I hate the hassle of trying to find a park. The store is beautiful! It looks really out of place as the stores next to it are dairys and fried chicken stores but it's a welcome difference! On display are stunning cupcakes, baked treats and cakes I couldn't decide what I wanted! In the end I chose a delicate little cupcake and a takeaway coffee which I took to the park and enjoyed all by myself! The woman who served me, who I assume was the owner was so lovely and easy to talk to which was good as it was just her and I in the store at the time. Five out of five stars for Bluebells and the staff! I've sent cakes, cupcakes and finger sandwiches to my best friend, and to her daughter for her 21st. Exceptional quality - I loved when my friend told me that some cakes look stunning but don't really taste amazing, and that the cakes from Bluebells match in design and taste - she went on and on about the real buttercream icing. I also appreciate Bluebells' caliber of cake designs, decorations and flavors (and colors). My first order was a cake with Ombre icing, and from the photos my friends sent it was as spectacular as they'd described. Bluebells is awesome! The shop is just so pretty and the cupcakes are to die for! Anytime I want a sweet treat for myself or to treat my clients, I always head to Bluebells. The staff is amazing and make an awesome flat white, and there is always so much to choose from. I go in for a cupcake and leave with fudge, coconut ice and their super yummy ginger slices. Bluebells is THE BEST cupcakery in Auckland, the best. I ran a small cupcake business but have now moved overseas - I have recommended Bluebells to many of my customers, as I believe their cupcakes were up to my standards....and I would've considered them my biggest competition in taste/quality if I would've continued my business. You can tell they are homemade, with love - and the icing. Oh man, so good - real butter people, and with just the right amount of icing sugar, and mixed just right (not too stiff, and crystallized). They also have some delicious looking slices/fudge/coconut ice at the shop, I haven't had a chance to try them but they look delicious! The owners are very nice - and make a killer flat white. None of this large flat white crap, they serve it in the right size, with the right amount of milk to espresso. Thank you for your passion - I appreciate it!!! We were extremely disappointed with our encounter for the purpose of booking our wedding cake. On our arrival for our 20 minute appointment we were told that they were running late, and were offered a coffee while we waited. My fiance ordered a coffee and we waited. There were 4-5 other couples there also booking wedding cakes and it felt like we were on an assembly line. We were then given 5 small cupcakes to share, and when our consultation started were asked which flavours we preferred and then which ganache we wanted. We were advised as to the size of the cake we needed, and were given a quote. It was only on our suggestion that decorations were discussed. We were told that someone would get back to us with sketches of what our cake could look like, and it has now been 4 weeks and no one has contacted us (we first called them about 10 weeks out from our wedding).. When we went to pay we discovered that we had to pay additional for the coffee. It feels like the purpose of the consultation was to make money from the tasting with no intention of actually making a cake and giving the reimbursement on the purchase of the cake. We have since ordered a cake from a more central and reputable cakery, that also avoids fondant icing. Their quote was less than half the price of Bluebells. Really disappointed! Don't pay for a tasting! read more
