The Great Wall - A great place to eat despite the Plain Jane exterior

Don't make a mistake in ordering. My experience? Bottom line, the stress of extended pandemic restrictions must've really impacted the Chinese lady at this eatery. If being treated like an actual person is important to you, consider avoiding this place. Why? Longer story. Have a minute? I'm in advanced heart failure. I can't eat Chinese. 2 weeks ago, I had heart surgery to install a device to assist my left ventricle to beat. I left the hospital day, due to pandemics and my desire to be home. I was 24 hrs post discharge, lots of pain. I wanted to do something nice for my exhausted family. They'd all been struggling with the rather stark reality, the worry concerning my dying heart. My bright idea? Chinese food. I used my Google Home unit to voice dial "the Great Wall in Rushville." That's Rushville, INDIANA, as we've done before. I placed an oddly shaky order with a lady I couldn't understand. When my daughter went to pick it up, they couldn't find the order at all. Just then, the original Chinese lady called to ask where we were. I asked my daughter where she was.... It was like the three stooges. It didn't take long to understand the problem. 304 miles of distance, thanks to an honest mistake in voice dialing. She was in Rushville, ILLINOIS. I tried to explain to the Chinese lady. She. Freaked. Out. Yelled (although I couldn't understand a word.) Hung up with a slam. Called again. "You come get order." The language barrier was to much to overcome. The lady became pretty rude, hung up again. My heart moniter went off, and the service called. Meanwhile, she yelled at my voice mail. Her son called shortly after, a pleasant young man. He explained they'd received many prank orders in the recent past ~ why anyone would do that, I can't understand. I didn't prank them. It was an honest mistake. I felt miserable. The cost of a simple meal was now equal to my electric bill, as my daughter had reordered in Indiana. I did offer to pay something to cover the cost, said I needed to wait for finding myself, gave my email address to (and responded to) the nice man. He said 'if you can pay part of it, that'd be great, ' and sent me his venmo via email as requested. I kind of hoped they'd offer an idea of what covering this cost would be, given it was most likely staff consumed with I'd asked for it to be donated to a local medical or police person on shift. Nope. Fast forward to today: Another voice calling on my phone, this time asking for my credit card number with security code (uh...no), sounding like I'd intentionally skipped out after dining.... another anxiety moment that causes chest pain. Today's call sealed this for me: I'd have paid it on my own. It's finally pay day. Instead, I'm being harassed. Therefore, I'm reviewing how this $78 meal resonated with my family. It didn't. Chinese just lost its appeal. I don't believe in supporting negative behaviors, people or businesses. This fits both those genre. Reguardless if I am a 'dial & dash' or not, I'm certain that my humanity is invisible to this lady. I am not to blame for others choices to interfere with thier business, that's a local problem hundreds of miles away. I'm sorry that Google dialed the wrong number. I'll file a complaint and the log that pieces of was voice dialed in a smart home device. I'm sorry that a language barrier caused a miscommunication. I'm sorry that, even knowing my story, this lady only cares about money: even wishing a me a good recovery is to costly, it seems. Here's a fortune cookie for the angry Chinese woman. "I hope, in the future, you can find it within yourself to be a little kind when a person makes an honest mistake. Especially one who, until two weeks ago, had a life span measured in months. Karma's a real bitch." What I'm not sorry about? After today, I'll never hear about this place again. #DramaByGoogle #NotMyKindaPlace

My husband and I visited Crazy Buffet (aka Panda Buffet) in Galesburg, Illinois on a Sunday night,…read morearound 7 pm, in late Sept, 2024. The restaurant was scheduled to close at 9 pm; the rest of the neighborhood was already quite sleepy. All of the food that both my husband and I ate was quite tasty, including Asian buffet favorites such as Pepper Chicken; Mongolian beef; crab Rangoon; California sushi; and far more. They also offered some unique and tasty items, such as fried zucchini slices. They also had tubs of creamy and yummy ice cream for dessert. We rate the quality of the food that we ate as 4.5/5.0. However, by 7 pm, the restaurant was already winding down and many of the food trays were already near empty and weren't being replenished so there were many food offerings that we didn't get the chance to try. Our rating for variety is thus only 2/5. Service was okay (3/5). The waitress brought us our requested waters, and checked in once to see if everything was okay. The overall ambiance was of a typical Chinese buffet restaurant, and was maintained well. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. However, staff started to wind down the day at 8 pm, including mopping the floors of the main buffet area, the check-out counter, and restrooms while we were still eating and needing to walk in those areas! It was an hour to closing time! Finally, the restaurant was a good value for all-you-can-eat for $12.99/person at dinner, before tax and tip. We would return but probably earlier in the day to have full access to the variety of food choices and to ensure that we didn't interfere with the cleaning at closing.

We decided to come by today after we traveled to Galesburg, but unfortunately a disability I have kicked in upon arrival and I got sick. I didn't eat a single bite of food at the restaurant, I got a soda while the rest of my family got full meals. Well, my dad called the waitress over near the end of everyone else eating to say that I hadn't eaten a single bite; the waitress replied very rudely telling us we were at fault for not telling them I wasn't going to eat before we checked in to the restaurant. Legitimately, I got to the table with my family, didn't sit down, and immediately went to the bathroom and got sick. When she told us we would get charged for my non-meal, my dad responded by saying we'd pay it and we didn't want to argue. She continued multiple times telling us to basically kick rocks. After around ten minutes of my family finishing their meals and deciding the food wasn't worth the treatment, another waitress comes by and takes my "meal" off the ticket, saying something along the lines of "We didn't want to, but management said to not charge you" I didn't have any food, but besides this experience with the staff my family members said the food wasn't nearly as good as it has been years prior. My dad and my partner are usually ones to get multiple plates, but they both only got one and didn't even finish what they got. My dad said there's no way he'd drive as long as we did to have this again, when in the past we would make the trip SPECIFICALLY for this buffet. Nothing else, just for this place. This was a really disappointing experience, and it very much gave "money hungry" vibes. I'd get charging me if I'd eaten ANYTHING. I didn't have a single bite. I hope this was a one-off experience and the staff doesn't act this way with other, worse off customers.
