I've been in the Miramichi for about a year after living in Vancouver. This week, we finally tried the Cunard after being disappointed with the other Chinese food restaurants on the river. Being Chinese, I do not count breaded chicken balls as authentic Chinese food, so I was happily surprised to find that the Cunard has a lot of authentic dishes on their menu, in addition to the North American Chinese dishes that non-Asians seem to like.
My husband and I tried the beef noodle chow fun and beef with onion and ginger dishes. They were awesome. We asked for hot sauce, and got Sriracha (yum) but they also pulled out their personal stash of delicious black bean chili oil just because we asked (awesome!)
We also tried the egg rolls, but I was not too impressed with those. They don't seem homemade (those have a paper-thin crispy skin), but they are the kind you can buy at Sobeys with the thick bubbly skin. (yuck). Other than that, I will definitely return for more noodles and try some of their pineapple (bolo) dishes.
Thank you for satisfying my desperate need for real Cantonese food!!! read more
