Simply an amazing lunch experience at a beautiful winery. Everything is immaculate, from the grounds to the buildings. My experience started with a four-course meal paired with wine. The guide did an excellent job explaining the food and wine, and the winery is remarkable for its extensive experimentation. I believe they have something like 30+ varietals planted with a core group or four or five that make up the majority. Yes, there are olive trees here too! Their climate might mirror some other wine regions in the world, but when combined with their elevation they have a unique canvas to work with for production. The favorite of the tasting was the Cuna de Tierra Blanco, Semillon - Sauvignon Blanc blend in pre-fermentation and carbonic maceration. Malolactic in French oak barrels. Wow! After the tasting there was a tour of the grounds in a very comfortable wagon pulled by a tractor. Open air and wonderful 360º views all the way around. There was a stop at a viewing platform where you could take in the surroundings and pause for a photo moment as well. Coming back to the main building, the tour continued into the processing and storage area. However, the best part was returning inside where everything started to purchase a couple of bottles to take back home. Unfortunately, this is not something I am going to find in any store back in the US. And, don't ask, no one is going to ship alcohol across boarders. read more

This winery was a very pleasant surprise! We saw it on yelp and the reviews were great. There's a 40 minute tour that includes driving thru the vineyard and the sommelier told us the history of the site and explained all grape varieties. They also grow table grapes and olives. The meal was 4 courses that included beef tenderloin. Beautiful presentation and delicious. They grow their own vegetables too. It's about an hour taxi or Uber ride from SMA. Worth the trip. read more

This is a winery that offers tours and breakfast for those early birds. Their whole breakfast service was amazing from start to finish. I have taken their wine tours before but I did not take it on this visit. read more

When arrived at the winery we were greeted by a security person who took our temperature and provided us with hand sanitizer. Then upon exiting our vehicle, we were greeted again by a hostess and a receptionist who both introduced themselves. We were provided a tour of the winery, first via the tower in a wagon (so much fun) and then a walk to other areas of the winery. The hostess lady did her very best to speak to us in English and explain all of the information as it relates to their winemaking process. They had several bikes on the winery and asked if we wanted to take a ride around the winery (so much fun) after enjoying the wine tasting. The wine tasting consisted of tasting three wines (sauvignon blanc, malbec, and merlot). The tasting came along with a cheese and meat tray. The cheese and meat tray included four different kinds of cheese, olives, and meat, and various nuts). At each tasting, we were advised to select various items from the tray that would change our palette for tasting. The service was great from start to finish. The restroom area detached from the wine tasting unit was clean and provided soap, paper towels, and hand sanitizer. Every employee we interacted with wore a mask and provided safety measures. read more

Cuna Four of us friends spent a magical afternoon with Paco, assistant to the Cuna de Tierra winemaker, who shared his passion and expertise with us. We learned that wine pairing is based on molecular science, and it was fascinating to discover how the science combines with our emotions and sensibilities to determine our individual wine experiences. If the effect is pleasing or causes flavors to explode, this means that the wine and food have molecules in common, and you have a pairing. This is only one of many things we learned from this Spanish-Mexican who trained in wine-making in Rioja, Spain. Thanks to Paco, our experience was cosmopolitan, extremely informative and if I may say so, full of love. He and the wonderful wine and food as well as the beautiful vineyard made for a marvelous end to our two weeks in San Miguel de Allende. This vineyard and the tour and tapas and wine pairing are a truly world class experience. We would love to come back for more of what the vineyard had to offer. We met the owner, the winemaker, the chef, and tasted wines, tapas, jams and olive oils, all made either at the vineyard or locally. Great day! read more

Cuna de Tierra Vineyard & Winery is Guanajuato’s first established winery and one of Mexico’s leading boutique vineyards, located just outside Dolores Hidalgo in the historic Valley of Independence. The estate offers a curated range of wine experiences designed for guests seeking depth, quality, and a genuine connection to the vineyard. Guided tours explore the vineyards, production areas, barrel cellar, and scenic viewpoints, always led by experienced sommeliers who focus on terroir, varietals, and winemaking philosophy. Tastings are available in different formats, from focused wine flights to more complete food-and-wine pairings. At the heart of the vineyard is RAIGAL · Cocina de Origen, the on-site restaurant led by Chef Ricardo Luna. RAIGAL presents a contemporary cuisine rooted in local ingredients and seasonality, thoughtfully paired with Cuna de Tierra’s wines. The restaurant is designed as an extension of the vineyard experience, offering an elevated yet relaxed setting with views over the vines. Each visit to Cuna de Tierra is intentionally unhurried, personal, and crafted with attention to detail—whether through a guided tasting, a gastronomic experience at RAIGAL, or simply enjoying the landscape with a glass of wine. Cuna de Tierra is a destination for those who value quality, architecture, gastronomy, and wines that express place.
History
Established in 2008.
The story of Cuna de Tierra begins in the early 1980s, when the first vines were planted in what was then an uncommon wine-growing region. At a time when Guanajuato had no established wine industry, the project started quietly and with patience, guided by a long-term vision rather than immediate results. Years later, those early vineyards led to the estate’s first vinification, marking the beginning of what would become the first formal winery project in the state of Guanajuato. From the start, Cuna de Tierra focused on understanding the land, the climate, and the behavior of each grape variety, allowing the vineyard to define the style of the wines over time. Today, Cuna de Tierra works with a diverse selection of grape varieties, producing different labels that reflect both the character of the vineyard and a philosophy of balance, elegance, and consistency. Each wine is made in small, carefully managed lots, with an emphasis on expressing origin rather than following trends.
