It's my favorite campground when I'm looking for seclusion. It seems like you're hours from the city, but it's just about an hour and a half from Lexington and 20 minutes or so from the interstate. The Grove is it's sister property, so if there isn't spots available here, there may be some at The Grove. Loops D & H are available via reservation, the other loops are walk up. This time we stayed in loop G area... G2 was our site and through the trees, you could see the lake. The paved pad was long and then there were steps that led to the huge graveled fire pit area. Perfect for tent camping. It wasn't considered a premium or double site, but compared to state resort park sites, it was at least twice as big. The shower house was decent. The water cold and the fact that the water on the shower was controlled by a button that you had to push every 30 seconds, was a bit annoying. I was thankful for hand soap and toilet paper though. The lady at check-in was a hot mess. She kept answering her cell phone and the landline phone instead of waiting on us. She didn't know which sites were lake side and wouldn't let us pay, look to choose a site, drop off and come back. She made us tow the camper down the narrow paths, choose a spot and then come back to pay with the camper in tow. Then it took her at least 10 minutes to write up the ticket, etc. After a 45 minute fiasco, we finally set up in the dark. Lesson learned... Remember what site # that you want, if you've not been there, study the map before you go. Things to consider are if you want to be by the lake, the shower house, or away from other sites. It's an American Land and Leisure run campground. I can't really figure out the ins and outs of the structurally run campgrounds... I've stayed at the Cor of Engineer, state park and KOA campgrounds. The American Land and Leisure campgrounds and sites seem to be the biggest and the most inexpensive.

The first visit we stayed during covid in December so it was just our group of 4 and one other couple staying in the resort. It was nice because it felt so private. We stayed in the resort rooms and we were surprised with how nice they are. Everything was clean. It was a bit small but we made it work. The second visit we stayed in their cabins and preferred it more. we got 2 bedrooms and each one had 2 beds so all of us slept comfortably. I loved that the cabin comes with a full kitchen and table so we spent our night playing board games. The park itself has so much to do. There are tons of hiking trails, horseback riding and even boat tours that take you up close to the waterfall. You have to go to the Moon bow at least once in your lifetime. It's when the moon hits the water at the right angle and you see a rainbow at night. It is a cool experience but it does get really crowded so you may want to come early. Cumberland Falls gave me unrealistic expectations for state parks because this what I feel like most state parks should be like.

Apparently the only place to see a Moonbow near the full moon in the Western Hemisphere, so that's pretty special!

Campground drive is narrow and tight for larger rigs. Check your campsite measurements as some are shorter than others. Crowded on the weekends but still not loud. Everyone seemed very friendly. RV and tent camping are both available. It's part of the federal Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. We had non-electric site A-12 which was conveniently near the rest room. It was appropriately sized for us and was on a slight slope; others might need a larger site and to bring leveling blocks. Mid-April was still relatively cold so the campground was quite empty -- and quiet. We were concerned that we might hear traffic from 58 but it was a non-issue. The campground is in Virginia, in close proximity to the point where Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky meet. There are many hiking trails nearby, and it's only a few miles from the visitors center for the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park.

Instead, the water was so low that our raft constantly got stuck on rocks, making the trip frustrating, unsafe, and nothing like what was advertised. At the very beginning of the trip, our guide Johnny even told us that the American Whitewater Association recommends a minimum of 400 ft water flow for rafting but that day it was only 250 ft. In other words, they knowingly took customers out in conditions that were below safe standards. When I asked for a refund, the company refused. Instead, they offered me a 50% discount on a future trip in an entirely different state in 2026 which is irrelevant and unacceptable. In their own follow-up email, the company admitted that Johnny was frustrated with the low water levels and that the trip was disappointing. This company clearly cares more about taking your money than providing a good customer experience. If you're looking for a real rafting adventure and a company that values its customers, I strongly recommend booking elsewhere.

Great crowd of people, a good mix of young, old, and families out riding. Bikes, ATVs, jeeps, razors, and saw a tracker. Some trails were closed or blocked off - i would assume due to danger? But there were so many you didnt miss one or two. Nice views from the wildcat dome. An old train tunnel, a lost boat, jurassic park trail... so much more.

It's quite a walk down the pier to the store and restaurant. There are cabins on other side of marina from Rv sites. Plenty of ramps to put boat in water. There is not a lot of signage where to go so got to ask many questions instead of someone explaining things to you. Prices are cheap right now. Average of $29 per night.

With several campground options in the Lake Cumberland area, I think I found my favorite…read more Initially, I had planned on staying at Falls Creek Camp Ground which was just a few miles up the road, but after I discovered Conley Bottom was almost the same rate AND CB has full hookups, I made a last minute route here. When we pulled in, it was about to storm and almost dark. We were greeted at the store which was apparently closed. The gentleman explained that he would just come by in the morning to collect the due. He also said that there isn't any pre-booking available, everything is walk up only. Right now the rate in the first RV area is $24 per night. The rate increases for the season on 5/20/17. The second area RV section doesn't include sewer hook ups and is $4 cheaper. The second area is where the playground and dock access that leads to the marina is and seemed to currently be more popular than the first area. The views from both sections overlook the marina and beautifully picturesque. They have several large, pull through sites. We stayed in site L which was the closest one to the lake. None of the sites have lake access, but the marina is within a few minutes walk. A very important and possible deal breaker for anyone concerned about the drive there is that it is a narrow road and if you're heading in late when the boats are headed home, they take up most of the road and you practically have to pull off to allow them to pass.

UPDATE: three days later and on our way back I tried dialing about 14 times while on Interstate 75 and the call wouldn't go through and not because of my phone because I had three bars most of the time so we had to keep driving because maybe they shut down

Online they have certain and very specific sites available for "walk up". When we got there, no one was at the checkin building at the entrance, so we drove on in. I already had the sites picked out and screen shots stored. The camp host was very territorial and was less than courteous, and informed us that we couldn't occupy those spots because they COULD'VE reserved online. Again, these empty, specific sites were not only empty, they didn't have reservation tags like other sites that were reservable online had. Note that you may not get cell service. I didn't.
