We loved it here. The owners, John & Erin are wonderful. We were a group of 5 horse trailers & 8…read morehorses. We had water hook-ups, newly built covered stalls (all 8 horses), and a stock trailer to use to at no additional cost. I can see their continued improvements such as a cute shower house/bathroom. They were only a phone call away, and would come visit and talk to us about their plans and asking our thoughts on how to make things better/different. They also had a refrigerator & freezer available if you needed to buy ice or water. I definitely think they are on the right track for horse people. We were able to ride out from camp on the first day, and the second & third days, we trailered out to other trailheads. With eight riders, we did have to make a couple of trips but it was manageable, and the riding was wonderful and challenging. They are tucked nicely behind a grove of trees. You never know the main rode is just a few yards away. Dog friendly too!

One of, if not the absolute BEST place we have ever stayed!!!…read moreThe site was great, we were level WITHOUT putting any boards or anything under the tires !!! The views are unbelievable and the owners are some of the nicest folks you will ever meet!! This is a place where you can be as active as you want to, walk around the campground and enjoy the beautiful sites or be more adventurous and walk some trails, maybe even hike to the sand cave or white rocks!! If that's not what you are feeling up to, it's a perfect place to simply kick back, relax and enjoy the beautiful views!!! We look forward to our next stay here, at Rock Bottom Horse Camp!!

I know your campground has been devastated from the hurricane. I want to reserve a few spots even…read morethough you're close I would like to know how I can reserve some spots and pay for them now that way it will help get you back opened up. We're so sorry this has happened to you. Everything I have heard about your campground is absolutely spectacular And I hope someday I can visit. God bless you and I hope the sun stays shining for you.

We have been staying at Mtn River for about 3 years now and it's become 'home away from home'…read more You have your choice of river or mountainside sites. We prefer the river sites personally for the views & fishing. The campground owners are fantastic people who've become friends. They live on site and take great pride in the property. The property is always impeccable. They are always working. Such a gorgeous place!! The pond is in the center of the property - yes you can fish (catch & release). Areas setup with hammocks, corn hole, seating, etc. The new playground has been a big hit! Oh, and there's also a dog park area. The bathhouses are super clean and have air conditioning. The laundry room is brand new with great units and also A/C. They incorporated additional activities this year over at the pavilion which our family has loved! Bingo, tie-dye t-shirts, food trucks, live music, and more! Our grandson loves to join us. Lots of kids and a great area for them to all play. Tubing the river is always a fun treat! You can bring your own tubes or rent from the campground. The camp store has expanded and features a great mix of items - t-shirts, hats, hoodies, koozies, and more. As well as local jams, rubs, and other treats. They're in the process of building a new office/camp store so we're excited to see this complete. We have a 40' fifth wheel. No problems every getting in. They accommodate all size rigs. All sites have a concrete pad, fire pit and very nice large picnic table. Sites are spacious and do not feel cramped like we've experienced at other campgrounds. Wi-Fi is generally pretty good. We've been able to work remote on some of our trips. We even had phone service our last trip (AT&T)! Lots to do in the area! Hiking, Linville Winery (yum!), Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mtn and so many other great places. The office staff can certainly provide plenty of recommendations, too. There are 2 grocery stores in town about 15min away. There's also a local dollar store about 5min away. We cannot say enough good things about MRFC. We've met some great campers there who we now call friends. We truly love this place and already have bookings for next year!

This is the vacation spot for a family or a few friends . I only wish it was like years ago and no reservation is required, just drive in and pay for a spot . This was the second time that I've visited Holly Bay campground. It's located in Daniel Boone…read moreNational Forest and on Laurel Lake and just a few miles from Cumberland Falls. It's my favorite campground when I'm looking for seclusion. It seems like you're hours from the city, but it's just about an hour and a half from Lexington and 20 minutes or so from the interstate. The Grove is it's sister property, so if there isn't spots available here, there may be some at The Grove. Loops D & H are available via reservation, the other loops are walk up. This time we stayed in loop G area... G2 was our site and through the trees, you could see the lake. The paved pad was long and then there were steps that led to the huge graveled fire pit area. Perfect for tent camping. It wasn't considered a premium or double site, but compared to state resort park sites, it was at least twice as big. The shower house was decent. The water cold and the fact that the water on the shower was controlled by a button that you had to push every 30 seconds, was a bit annoying. I was thankful for hand soap and toilet paper though. The lady at check-in was a hot mess. She kept answering her cell phone and the landline phone instead of waiting on us. She didn't know which sites were lake side and wouldn't let us pay, look to choose a site, drop off and come back. She made us tow the camper down the narrow paths, choose a spot and then come back to pay with the camper in tow. Then it took her at least 10 minutes to write up the ticket, etc. After a 45 minute fiasco, we finally set up in the dark. Lesson learned... Remember what site # that you want, if you've not been there, study the map before you go. Things to consider are if you want to be by the lake, the shower house, or away from other sites. It's an American Land and Leisure run campground. I can't really figure out the ins and outs of the structurally run campgrounds... I've stayed at the Cor of Engineer, state park and KOA campgrounds. The American Land and Leisure campgrounds and sites seem to be the biggest and the most inexpensive.
