Marcelo doesn't always know what he's doing and doesn't follow through. He put tile on our shower and bathroom floor--tiling is NOT his strong suit. He should have laid out all the tiles first to be sure that we had enough. He didn't and we came up short so had to supplement with different tile. Then the tiles he put down were not laid straight, and would not have had straight grout lines; it looked awful. He goofed up half of them so that we ended up having to run the same LVT into the bathroom that he had just put in the bedroom. The grout lines aren't all straight in the shower, but we were forced to let it go because we had already lost all the tile on the bathroom floor.
Before the LVT could be laid on the bathroom floor, the bad tile had to be taken up. Instead of doing it carefully, he was very aggressive, ruining the brand new waterproof barrier underneath. There was no reason to do that. The floor then had to get leveling compound, but pieces of the waterproof barrier were sticking up through it so it had to be sanded and redone. One area of concern is where the LVT meets with the tile at the shower opening--he didn't level the floor properly underneath and the LVT floor moves. It'll have to get filled in somehow because water could get in there and destroy the subfloor. We've asked Marcelo to come back and fix it, but he's a no-show.
He left a lot of liquid cement on the floor where he put in the transition strip between the LVT and wood floor. He did come back to clean it up, but you can still see it because he doesn't pay attention to detail.
We have pocket doors and Marcelo put the baseboard back on the wall using long nails instead of the short ones we had there for him and there is now a long scratch across the entire width of the door that he won't repair.
We have a 4 inch scratch in our front door from Marcelo bringing his equipment into the house.
Marcelo would frequently arrive late or leave at 2pm to go to another job instead of finishing us first, thus dragging on our reno. They did a lot of sanding, never closing the door to contain the dust in one room; what a mess! We don't recall him vacuuming at all. Is YELP going to pay for someone to repair his mistakes? read more
