I know. Culver's is a chain. It serves fast food. I know. When one becomes a parent, though, those things become irrelevant issues next to more pressing matters like, "Where's the next clean changing table on this trip up to Michigan?" You'd be amazed how few gas stations have changing tables (and un-amazed by how filthy their bathroom floors are). Early this summer, we packed up our baby and headed out to visit my family in Michigan. Not exactly a quick drive, especially with a kiddo in tow, but we left around bedtime (6:30, ha!) and hoped for the best. At the first stoplight out of town, we heard a grunt from the car seat. Uh-oh. "Keep driving," I said. "He's not crying and I don't smell anything." So we drove and drove and drove until our hungry bellies asked us to relent and we succumbed to the siren call of butter burgers, fried cheese curds and frozen custard. As Justin lifted our son, who'd just woken, from his car seat, he said, "Oh buddy, your back is all sweaty!" Except that wasn't sweat. I crossed my fingers for a clean changing table as we hauled ass into Culver's where, much to my delight and relief, we found what I refer to as a "Family Bathroom." Basically, it's just a single, unisex, handicap stall, but it's large enough for Mom & Dad to tag-team a blowout victim. Which we did. I was incredibly grateful for this wonderful bathroom, imagining the mess and challenge of cleaning up my son single-handedly in a cramped stall in the ladies' room. Also, the whole thing was hilarious. So thanks, Culver's, for the new fun family memory. As for food and service--I like both here. The ladies at the counter were really sweet and admired our cutie pie son (always gets points from me) and they were happy to give us a "side" of bananas even though we didn't order custard so he could have a snack while we pounded our butter burgers (with cheese, snack-size--perfect!). We so enjoyed this ridiculous experience that we stopped here on our way home from that trip and twice more on another trip as well. Culver's earned their five stars and I earned my "Duchess of Culver's" title, too. read more

I visit this restaurant once a month when I'm going to the doctor on my way home, I'm tired of my order being scattered all over the basket it comes in , on 4-5-18 I ordered the new Pretzel burger and cheese curds spent 11.00 to have my order served in a scattered mess , this happens on every visit, I complained once and they told me they would correct the problem. Stopped by Culver's Wednesday night for some dessert after having a massive dinner (probably not the best health decision but it sounded good at the time). There were quite a few people eating at the tables, but there was not line at the counter. The girl who took our order was very friendly and did a good job. My husband and I both ordered an Oreo Concrete Mixer. We took at number and then waited at a table for a few minutes before our food came out. It was overall pretty good. I would say I like the consistency of Dairy Queen Blizzards better but this was pretty good. It just seems to be a little more solid than most ice cream shops (probably due to it being custard I believe). It did have a nice amount of Oreo chunks in it though which is always a plus. read more

I can't tell you how many times I went to Culver's and ordered their pot roast platter with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans. It's one of the few places in Decatur where you can get semi-decent food in a fast-food/drive-thru setting. The service was always prompt here, and the portions were good for the money spent. Culver's is also known for their custard, and their famous "butter burgers" on the menu. To be honest, I have no idea why they're called what they're called, but the options were always pretty darn good. My favorite was the mushroom swiss burger accompanied with a side of Wisconsin cheese curds. There's no doubt that I gained a few pounds during my stay in Decatur, and this place is partly to blame. This place and Krekel's are pretty much the only two fast food spots worth going out of your way for in Decatur. I've eaten here so many times (probably at least 200 times from 2008-now) and have only been disappointed once. Almost everything on their menu is top-notch, with the highlight being their freshly-made, incredibly juicy butterburgers. All burgers are made when you order them, so you have to wait a few minutes, but it's definitely worth it. I would much rather wait and have a fresh burger that's still hot over a cold pre-made burger that's been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour. The Wisconsin Cheese Curds are absolutely phenomenal, and their Concrete Mixers put Dairy Queen's Blizzards to shame. You may have noticed that I said there was only one time when I was disappointed with this restaurant. Well, that one time was when I made the mistake of ordering the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. I love almost everything on the Culver's menu, but I can't in good conscience recommend this sandwich. It basically tasted like a cold piece of rubber. So as long as you avoid this sandwich, you should have a great experience. Lastly, the Colby Jack Pub Burger is hands-down the best fast food restaurant burger I've ever eaten. Unfortunately, it's a limited-time only selection. I believe it's only available in the month of April, but I could be wrong. I used to be an employee at a Culver's in the Chicago suburbs. Because of this, I know when they're playing around and not doing what they're supposed to. I've gone to this particular store a few times this summer, and they've screwed my order up each time I've gone. Today's fiasco was my salad. I ordered a salad with crispy chicken. I received a salad with chicken fingers instead of the crispy chicken breast like it asks for. And it wouldn't be a big deal of I had ASKED for the chicken fingers as opposed to the chicken breast. However, I asked for the crispy salad because I like the batter on the chicken breast patty more than the chicken fingers. Had the girl actually taken my order at the drive thru and not the window, the kitchen would have known I wanted crispy chicken while I waited the few minutes for the car in front of me to get their things (and as a former employee I know they use tenders when the wait for the breast is too long, but it shouldn't have been too long because I waited long enough!). Then I still waited five or so additional minutes only to NOT get chicken breast. She also failed to add my cheese curds to the order when I ordered at the drive thu, and didn't keep the window open when I was checking my order verifying of she GOT that I asked for cheese curds. I placed an online order, specified 1:45 pm for curbside pickup. Arrived at 1:45 pm, parked in the specifically marked "Curdside Pickup" parking space and called the number listed on the website to let the staff know that I was there for my order. The young lady who answered the phone informed me that I would have to come through the drive-thru to pickup my order. So, I got in the line (behind at least a dozen other vehicles) and waited my turn. Twenty minutes later, I got to the window where they tried to give me only half of my order. I asked why they didn't offer curbside delivery as it stated on the website and was greeted with slack-jawed silence. Notified them that I would be leaving a terrible review and that they should let their manager know that it was coming. Got home with my by now very cold food and called the manager to vent my frustration. She said they do deliver curbside and I should never have been told otherwise. She offered her apologies, but nothing else. No future discount, nothing. Needless to say, I will not be patronizing this restaurant in the future. read more

Very disappointed. Went to drive up, asked what dinners, was told cod, roast beef and steak. Ordered cod with french fries and Cole slaw. Get to window and the special is southern chicken dinner! They have pretty good food here, and I'm not talking just one thing everything I try seems to be tasty. Maybe a little too greasy for some items but still tasty. We went to culvers tonight for dinner 7/25/12,ordered up about $30 worth of food to not be satisfied. Culvers food is real good,but have a problem getting orders rgt. We ordered 2 sundies,2 baskets,and curds.They wanted to hand us our drinks, and sundies in 110 degrees, I said our sundies will melt waiting for our food.She kept them on the inside gave us our drinks,which where good and watered before we got home while waiting for our food. When we did get the food and ice cream it was melting already and we had another stop to make.Got home I had to switch sandwiches with my husband,because they put mayo on his sandwich after asking what he wanted on it(ketchup,mustard, and onion)he had a single with bacon,I had a double frisco melt.2 completely diff sandwiches.At prices like that, there is no rooms for mistakes. read more
