It's a great place for a party (we recently held our engagement party there), and areas of the bar can be hired for this. Jo and her team will also provide a buffet at very reasonable cost. The cocktails are fantastic, ranging from the classics such as Cosmopolitans to more unusual apple martinis and the like. The food is very good for snacks, although for me it's a bit too lively for dinner. They also do an excellent salad bar lunch Monday to Saturday. The only slight quibble is the service which can sometimes be a little slow, but I know they're working on this at the moment. However, with great cocktails and food, a 2-for-1 cocktail slot, and such a great venue, it's still a brilliant start to a night out in Chi.

This is such a wonderful place where the proprietor was so warm and friendly and welcoming! We were seated next to the fireplace and had a nice fire during the entire meal - how cool was that? The service from the staff was second to none - always attentive and did not miss a beat. So about the food - it was amazingly delicious - we had: - Camembert salad - 8.5 UKL - beautifully presented - Pigeon breast with goat cheese - totally rich and salad was so fresh 7.5 UKL - Devon Crab Thermidore - again, totally delicious and well presented 18.95 UKL - Blackboard special chicken pie - done to perfection - AWESOME - (dont remember the price as it was a blackboard special) This place is way out in the country and has such beautiful scenery and friendly people. If you are ever in the area I highly recommend a visit to this wonderful pub!

The Bakers' Arms has been garnering a lot of good press recently. It was the 'Hampshire Life'…read moreDining Pub of the Year 2007 and has local webzines such as MyPetersfield.com have given it rave reviews. I took the vicar to lunch there on a wet Palm Sunday and found it a charming place, simply furnished and with a welcoming open fire. The original small public and saloon bars have been opened up so that the pub now consists of one large L-shaped room, one wing of which is at a lower level. Being a Sunday, the menu was short - basically roast beef, pork or chicken with all the trimmings. Our Gloucester Old Spot pork with cream mustard sauce came commendably quickly and was delicious, with ample crackling, a tasty Yorkshire pudding and superb roast potatoes. There were no less than five additional vegetables, including red cabbage and parsnips, all fitted comfortably on a large square plate. Slices of crusty brown bread were served automatically, all for £16.95 each. Puddings were apple crumble, bread and butter and brownies, all with cream. We failed to tackle any of them. The wine list is short and we allowed Anna, (who with the chef, Adam Cordery are the proprieters) to recommend an excellent Rioja at £17. No service charge was added to the bill, which I find a little tiresome as you the have to calculate it, but the service itself from Anna and her team of two young girls was exemplary, and the pub was full.

Portion sizes were large and you won't be walking away with an empty belly. The choice is plentiful and the beef (even though a topside cut) was mouthwateringly tender. I had the lamb, well just come try for yourself, I left smiling :) One thing that needs a special mention; We have been to many pubs in and around London (where we live) every Sunday trying a new place for the books and I have to say (including my mother who is from Yorkshire) that the chef makes the best Yorkshire puddings we have EVER come across. They are just the right consistency, not too heavy or dough like, not too dry and crispy but just right...light and fluffy with enough spongy volume to almost classify and the perfect Yorkshire pudding. Lady's and Gentlemen, if Yorkie's are your thing - this is the place! The sweet potato fries are a great side, the cauliflower cheese was also very very good; almost crispy on top but with a cheesy creamy sauce underneath. The scotch egg is also worth a mention as this is a British classic and it is cooked to well here, highly recommended. Other things to note; bread and butter pudding was a big hit, so was the crumble. I had the millionaires cheese cake and although the most popular desert I found it to be a little rich and well, more chocolate than cheesecake. Not really a cheesecake texture but more a hardened chocolate based moose. One last thing, although there were a number of staff members we found the table service to be a little slow and needed improving... but surely this place, with these portions and those prices will be a hit everytime! Highly recommended

My husband had the steak and ale pie, and I had the summer salad which included chicken and scampi in sweet chili sauce. Both dishes were absolutely outstanding, and we've been traveling for more than a week in England and have been to England before. Had to be right up at the top if not the top meal we've had in England! On top of that, we were late to an attraction, and as we walked down the street after leaving the pub, the owner Mark pulled up alongside of us and insisted on giving us a ride to the ferry so we'd have plenty of time to see Osborne House! Of course we came back and visited a couple of additional times, and were never disappointed by the coffee, the Ale, the food, or the company. We would highly recommend this pub to all comers!
