We hosted a charity event and they did an excellent job at everything. I will explain my thoughts from a diners perspective and also from a corporate perspective. 1. Their food is delicious. You most certainly aren't going to get bland food from them. They are know for being innovative, focusing on local ingredients, and providing top notch service. Culinary Crafts took weeks and weeks to get my proposed wedding menu together. Despite advising that our budget would provide for a very nice event, CC finally came back with a menu that cost MORE than 133% of our budget, which did NOT include beverages, cake, chef fee, maître d' fee, dessert - and of course not tip or tax. I expressed my dissatisfaction with being pushed into spending much more than originally discussed (P.S. - they'd already drafted an invoice to send me.) I received the following response, verbatim. Thanks for you time on the phone yesterday. I spent sometime this morning discussing your proposal with my director of catering and I wanted to get back with you. We are sorry for the miscommunication on our part with your budget and your expectations. As your menu sits, we don't have margin to decrease the price point, and switching to a buffet style we would still come in above your budget. We are the best caterer in Utah and thus are prices reflect that, and we do pay our staff well so we can provide the best service to our clients. In the end, we may not be the best fit for this event due to budget constraints. Culinary Crafts catered two of the evening events I attended during last week's 3-day business interchange in Utah. The first at the site of Utah Olympic Park which nicely utilized a wide, multiple level distribution of indoor and outdoor space, and the second at Rendezvous Ranch in Uinta Mountains' Weber Canyon. Turned off by cole slaw back in the late 1970s as a result of my elementary school cafeteria's interpretation of the dish, I was encouraged by the personable Mary Crafts herself to try her version made with dried cranberries, candied pecans and (I think) blue cheese. I indulged several servings paired with the alcohol which was readily available: Outdoor beer coolers, along with Flying Ace All Star trampolinists, greeted us when we stepped off the busses; a full bar on the first floor of the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center, and wine bar in the upstairs Eccles Olympic Museum. Club membership not required for that vodka collins. Vegetarian diets were factored into both event menus, in both the appetizers that the very attentive and very easy-on-the-eyes servers floated around on garnished trays, and in the full course buffet style meal served at Rendezvous Ranch. Plated desserts were laid out in advance on the tables which were dressed with several style serving glasses for filling with several choice beverages. I don't attend catered events often, and probably wouldn't notice tiny slips because I'm not looking for them, and I'm not a helpless guest, but the staff was always there, whisking one thing away and swooping in with more of something else and I never had to consider how and where to dispose of an empty glass. Best of all, there was never a shortage of food -- fresh, varied, and innovative. My only minor suggestions: 1) Provide a reference menu and display on the buffet table for easy identification of side dishes. 2) The 1st and 2nd floors of the Winter Sports Center could have been integrated a bit better. Those of us who are wanderers by nature found the 2nd floor and the secret side door exit to the best platform for viewing the freestyle aerialists, but the majority missed the offerings and exhibits of this floor altogether. read more

I attended one of their Pop-up restaurants with my grandma and it was amazing to say the least. We arrived at the venue and was met by some waiters with drinks. We walked around the art exhibit while getting to eat some delicious hor d'oeuvres. It was very relaxing and nice! Then we went to the dining area and we sat at a table with 6 other people. Several people commented that it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding, and my husband and I were both very pleased with the menu and quality. Culinary Crafts catered our 1 1/2 day Executive/Board Member Offsite. We had them serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. The food, staff, and presentation was exceptional. I have used a couple of other caterers for our board meetings, and I now know that there is a huge variation in caterers--presentation and professionalism makes the food even better. We just had a small event, a bridal shower for about 32 people and I wanted Culinary Crafts to cater it because I had been to another event that was catered by them and I loved the food. I was pretty dissapointed in the food that was served. Our menu included pork sliders baked beans and pasta salad. Everyone did love the pasta salad but the beans were absolutely horrible and the pork sliders were premade and cold....... The two servers arrived at 11:30 and put together al l the food, nothing was heated up , just put on big dishes and wrapped in plastic , then they sat around and talked to each other in my kitchen.. The party didnt start until2!!! By the time the guests arrived the food was cold. I also especially wanted their orange rolls, they had them at the other event and were so delicious, like a sweet roll lightly browned with lots of orange icing.. The ones we got were white, and looked like they hadnt even been cooked and no icing to speak of, they were dry and hard. I almost feel like since our gathering was small and only $3000 , we were the least of their concern, maybe my pockets werent as deep as some of the big parties and corporations they host in park city or something but I really feel I could of gone out and got better food myself and it would of cost me way less than $3000 . I really had high hopes for this affair thinking I was shelling out 3 grand it ought to be some pretty good food or at least warm food but was hugely dissappointed.. We did our wedding at The Towers at Rice Eccles stadium, this venue is contracted with Culinary Crafts. Jinous and Mary were very nice, however from the beginning they never asked our price point and after a huge discrepancy they still didn't respect our budget. They told us that there food was amazing but honestly it didn't even compare to olive garden. My husband is Chinese and they told us that there Chinese wok was decadent... It was anything but, it was supposed to be like stir fry but it was sweet and tasted like peanut sauce and sesame oil. I, the bride couldn't eat it because i thought it was disgusting. The chicken penne alfredo was pretty tasty and the focaccia breadsticks were as well but still not as good as olive garden or fazolis. They broke our cake stand and they served our cake from the top tier down so I now have no top to save but I do have a ginormous bottom tier that they did not serve out.... I did tell them to go ahead and serve every tier because each of the tiers were a different flavor, but I just don't understand why they would begin from the top and go to the bottom, and not cut or serve the largest tier which was the best tasting one, hence the largest tier. I am very disappointed in the food and the service. We were also promised that Jinous and Mary would be present for the event but neither of them were there. read more

DO NOT HAVE THEM CATER YOUR WEDDING. At first we thought that about $2,600 for a wedding venue was very cheap. They require a $300 deposit to reserve a date, which we paid. What we didn't know, and wasn't presented to us was that we HAVE to use their caterer, Culinary Crafts. We told them we just wanted pasta and chicken as the main course, ice cream, and wine. For this simple meal they calculated that for our wedding they were going to charge us $28,000!!!! For freaking pasta and chicken. This is the most over priced caterer that we have ever worked with. A box of pasta at the store is about $1.00 which can feed 2 people. We have 300 guests, so that would be about $150 dollars. Tell me how can they get away with charging this ridiculous amount. They are running a monopoly. The planner (Jinous) was over 2 weeks late on the estimate. Avoid this caterer at all costs, there are better options as well as cheaper ones. read more

I recently used Culinary Crafts for a corporate event at the National Ability Center in Park City. I had a set budget that I had to stick to and Mary was so helpful and sincere about finding the right food for the event at the price I was able to pay. I bid out 6 other local caters, all of which came back with similar pricing but with much less creativity for the menu and poor customer service. In my opinion, Culinary Crafts is more than just a caterer, their staff arrives happy and excited to make your event exactly what you want it to be. The staff that served at my event went above and beyond to make sure every detail was thought out. They checked-in with me often to make sure I was happy and to see if there was anything else they could do to better serve me. They take pride in their work and the success of each event.
