There were several people waiting at the door for take away food for quite awhile. It seems like the 7pm rush really backed up the kitchen and we didn't see much food coming out for awhile. We were seated and left alone for atleast 20-25 minutes until we were able to order. Then another 30 minutes before food showed up, without much explanation from the hostesses. Service seems really hands off and something that could be improved. For dinner, we did a chicken tikka masala and beef madras with Hot level spicy and it was actually really hot; what I wanted! Almost too spicy in fact, but I could handle it. I preferred the madras; the food was well flavored. You can pay at the front, which we did pretty quick after we finished our food. We were still disappointed in the service and lack of communication about what was going on with the food.

Must…read morehave been a really popular deal as the place was packed and seemed maybe they were backed up with to go orders? It's a real shame, the food was pretty tasty but the wait times and service were actually really horrible. I would have given 2 stars but I did like the dishes we ordered. Once we got there, we surprisingly got seated immediately, but that was all the prompt service we received. I think after about 20 min or so, they asked what we wanted to drink and we started off with some wine. Then after another 20 or so minutes, I try to flag down a waitress and ask her if we could order. She replies yes then scurries off......20 more minutes go by and the waitress seems to be taking the orders of everyone around us and finally she does take our order. We start off with samosas, papadams and for our entrees we ordered the chicken tikka masala and the beef madras. We asked for the Hot spicy level and it came out spicy! Maybe a little too spicy so I ask a waitress for some yogurt. But I never see the yogurt, I'm pretty much done with my dinner and have no more water at this point and just want to get out of there. It was annoying because yes the restaurant was busy when we got there but as we waited the place was starting to clear out and I literally saw 3 waitresses just going around to each empty table putting plates down and folding napkins...no one else was coming in and we actually needed some service....sooo please don't ignore me? Maybe I should do as the locals do next time and just order take out!

This was honestly some of the best Indian food that I have ever had, and I've eaten Indian food all…read moreover the world. Definitely the best I've had in New Zealand since moving here in 2016. Their fish tandoori was incredible. The fish was so tender and cooked perfectly. The texture was just right and the green sauce it came with made it that much better. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a bit spicy as well. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Indian medium spicy and it was just the right amount of spicy for me. The chicken was soft and tender and the curry sauce itself was very flavorful. It came with a good portion of rice and I had the garlic cheese naan on the side. I drove an hour out of my way on my road trip because I was craving Indian food, and this place definitely did not disappoint. I will stop by again for sure when I am back in the area. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They have awesome music videos playing which adds to the overall atmosphere. The restaurant is decorated very tastefully and the bathrooms were nice and clean. Overall I recommend Sangam Indian Cuisine for anyone craving delicious Indian food like I was!

Great selection of chutneys to go with poppadoms to start and a very good wine list from NZ, including a delicious local Gewurtztraminer which was great with spicy food. A happy find in Whitianga!

I'm such a sucker for cheap butter chicken and this meal from Eat Indian satisfies me oh so well…read more The first time I ate here I didn't have that high expectations... I was expecting sort of run of the mill butter chicken like you'd expect from a cheap place like this. So I was so surprised to be absolutely stoked with my meal! It was awesome!! Nice and creamy and delicious and the naan bread was great too! I couldn't really believe it... I went away and told all my friends about it. The only thing is, the next time I came along (with my friends who I'd raved about the curry to) it wasn't quite as good. It was still very yummy but not the crazy delectable meal I'd had before. Still very satisfying. And great for cheap curry! Super quick too!

We picked up some takeaway from here for dinner earlier in the week: one butter chicken, one tikka…read moremasala, two samosas and a bunch of those fried onion thingies. My impression was that the food was good, considering that this is a pretty modest and no-frills place. Certainly not the best curry I've had, but quite satisfying. The butter chicken was the better of the two mains ~ buttery, just like it says on the box, and generally pleasing. The tikka didn't agree with me so much, but then again none of the dishes were really familiar to me and I was shooting in the dark in terms of my choices. The 'fried onion thingies' were a tad soggy, but good on the whole; the samosas weren't the best. Service was really friendly. I think the fellow even undercharged me for the sides, because looking at the 'fried onion thingies,' I'd thought they were quite large (and hence that there were only a few left in the cabinet) and so I told him to just give me everything that was there. Only later did I realize there were like 10 of them, and yet he only charged me I think $8 for all the sides, even though the 'fried onion thingies' were $1 each and the samosas $2 each.
