Tucked into Calle San Sebastián lays one of the most exciting new cocktail bar openings. This small-- intimate bar is a VIBE! Cui cui channels the spirit of the Prohibition in the USA capturing that sense of secrecy and intention: dimly light, a hidden feel and quietly sophisticated. It's elegant but not stiff-- more "effortlessly cool" than formal.
We didn't have a reservation so we waited outside around 5:50pm until they opened at 6pm. They kindly allow us to sit at the bar for an hour bc they needed the space back at 7pm. I highly suggest you make a reservation in advance.
The cocktails are the main event-- precise, classic-leaning, but still creative. Whiskey is my poison of predilection so "Wisconsin Style" was my first pick made out of bitter, orange and cherry. It was sweet, fruity and retro, I personally loved it. My husband picked "Vieux Carrè" more herbal and classic-- with rye, cognac, vermut and benedictine. It was really well balanced. We also had the classic "Old Fashioned" which was executed exceptionally well and flawless. I read in reviews that one of the "standout" cocktail was "Piña Colada Reinterpretation" made with coconut ice cream instead of cream, I didn't ordered it bc Im not a huge piña colada fan and I was scared it was going to be too sweet.
The food menu looked tremendous. Unfortunately we only went for drinks before our dinner reservation but we still tried the foie toast out of curiosity and it was delicious. Honestly, we were left wanting to try more.
New fav spot in Old San Juan. Strong execution across the board. I'll say it's already shaping up to be one of the most compelling cocktail destinations in the city. read more
