Let me start off this review by saying this was my favorite meal when visiting Sicily. There aren't enough accolades that I could give to this restaurant.
We went to this restaurant after walking out of someplace else. Because it was during the off-season, we had the entire place to ourselves. It is quiet and romantic, and definitely a date night spot.
The menu is very authentic and very local. For example, we saw that one of the first courses had donkey sauce. At first, we thought it was a translation error (don't look it up on urban dictionary either!) but then saw that there also was a donkey chop on the menu. It turns out that donkey is a Ragusan specialty; we passed. I ordered the pasta with bottarga sauce and my husband got pasta with lemon sauce. While I love bottarga, I liked my husband's dish even more. Both dishes had wonderfully fresh pasta and were well sauced.
The bread that was brought to the table became the benchmark that we used to judge bread for the remainder of the journey. There were three kinds, all of which were homemade: breadsticks, little rolls that are similar to pao de queijo, and a sort-of sourdough. Oh, the carbs were all so lovely.
For dessert, I had a cannoli that was the size of flashlight but worth every calorie. The shell was thin and the cream was not too sweet. I can't recall what my husband ordered.
My husband had a glass of wine that was lovely. The restaurant has a wonderful selection including wines by the glass. Even though ordered by the glass, a fresh bottle was opened table side complete with wine aerator pourer.
Service was lovely; attentive but not overbearing.
If this place was local, I would come way more often much to dismay of my jeans. Please visit if you are ever in Ragusa. One of the best dining experiences I have had in years. read more
