We had a late breakfast at this Tower District restaurant and I enjoyed it. I had the "Original huevos ranchero" and was very happy. It's not a traditional huevos ranchero per se, although that is also on the menu, it was a soupy enchilada style sauce over eggs with tortillas on the side. Great taste! We also had menudo that had hominy, it's hard to find places that have hominy in their menudo which I absolutely love in it. The 2 item combo was piping hot and made to perfection. Good food the people are nice. The only issue I had was findingg out after the meal that the place takes cash ony. Chinatown has become so sad. The only businesses left down there are pretty much the restaurants, and they are good ones. Went to Cuca's today for lunch. Awesome food! I ordered Steve's Special; Hard shell taco, Enchilada and Burrito. I opted for Shredded Beef in the Taco and Enchilada and Chile Colorado in the Burrito. All were very good, especially the Chile Colorado in the Burrito. I asked for a taste of the Menudo, and she gave me a generous taste. It's great. 7 day Menudo restaurant downtown....can't be bad. My mom was amazed on how her chilaquiles in Migas were so delicious the first time she visited. I decided to join her this time to try them out. but was very very disappointed on how stale the tortillas were, no flavor what so ever. my mom was also disappointed we told our server about it but he didn't try and effort to re make our plate. I've been to both locations, and this one is more authentic than the other. So, for the white folks... I'd recommend the Tower location. But for those of you looking for that good "hole in the wall" Mexican food, this is the place. The owner is the cook, and she is sweet as can be. This place is pretty charming. It's been around since the 70's. They have the original wood panneling, a flocked damask wall paper, and old vynl seats in the booths and counter. Probably the best mexican food i've ever had, hands down. ive gotten the chili verde burrito and the regular pork burrito. It's a little hole-in-the-wall spot but they have an excellent menu and really speedy service. The staff is really friendly. i got there once like 5 minutes before they closed and they served me like usual and didn't have any attitude or showed any irritation at all. They just made the food and served me with a smile =) My only complaint is that they close every day at 2 pm, which is really odd. It makes it difficult to get there on time for lunch if you want to dine in and you definitely can't go there to eat for dinner because they'll be closed. Both of these restaurants are fabulous. The one in the tower is a little more expensive, but I'm sure it is because of the rent. For this reason, I like the one in Chinatown better. You have to try the deep fried pork chop! They actually take the pork chop and place it in the fryer. So not healthy but the flavor is incredibly delicious.
