We had a late breakfast at this Tower District restaurant and I enjoyed it. I had the "Original huevos ranchero" and was very happy. It's not a traditional huevos ranchero per se, although that is also on the menu, it was a soupy enchilada style sauce over eggs with tortillas on the side. Great taste! My wife had the large shrimp cocktail and thought it needed more avocado. I'd love to go back for lunch or dinner to try some of the rest of the menu. read more

Located in Fresno's Chinatown Cuca's serves up delicious homemade Mexican food that brings back lots of nostalgia. The beans were definitely tasty, and the rice was perfect. We also had menudo that had hominy, it's hard to find places that have hominy in their menudo which I absolutely love in it. The 2 item combo was piping hot and made to perfection. This place does only accept cash as payment so please be aware of that. Sitting was quick. As soon as I walked in I sat down. Since I was on my lunch hour. Didn't know what to expect until I walked in. Really clean place. Small but perfect, right In the heart of downtown china town. Their salsa was a good start and the chips were the best, fresh, really good!!! I ordered two enchiladas/chicken plate. The beans and rice are just absolutely delicious. The chicken and enchilada sauce was just mouth watering tastefully amazing. Add some of the salsa on it for a hint and it's just a good mix in all. Good food the people are nice. The only issue I had was findingg out after the meal that the place takes cash ony. Usually not a problem for me, but that day it was as I just didnt have a lot of cash on me. Had to walk across the street and be charged almost 4 dollars to get money to pay bill. My roommate Araceli & I have eaten at so many Mexican restaurants in the valley! We have come to the conclusion that this West Fresno restaurant is still the BEST in the valley! Chinatown has become so sad. The only businesses left down there are pretty much the restaurants, and they are good ones. More of us need to take our restaurant $$ to Chinatown, and perhaps the whole area could some day make a come back. Cuca's is old time Fresno. Very genuine with no pretentious air about it. Went to Cuca's today for lunch. Awesome food! I ordered Steve's Special; Hard shell taco, Enchilada and Burrito. I opted for Shredded Beef in the Taco and Enchilada and Chile Colorado in the Burrito. All were very good, especially the Chile Colorado in the Burrito. I asked for a taste of the Menudo, and she gave me a generous taste. It's great. 7 day Menudo restaurant downtown....can't be bad. Great mexican food that tastes like your friend's mom made it. These people really care. We have a new favorite Mexican restaurant. We will be back! read more

I've been to both locations, and this one is more authentic than the other. So, for the white folks... I'd recommend the Tower location. But for those of you looking for that good "hole in the wall" Mexican food, this is the place. The owner is the cook, and she is sweet as can be. Always makes times to turn around and greet her customers or stop by at a table to chit chat and get to know her clients. My mom was amazed on how her chilaquiles in Migas were so delicious the first time she visited. I decided to join her this time to try them out. but was very very disappointed on how stale the tortillas were, no flavor what so ever. my mom was also disappointed we told our server about it but he didn't try and effort to re make our plate. Another disappointed thing i have to point out was how dirty every single corner is. i understand that this business is 25 + years old but come on you can clearly remove the dirt on chairs, walls and floors if it gets clean. This place is pretty charming. It's been around since the 70's. They have the original wood panneling, a flocked damask wall paper, and old vynl seats in the booths and counter. They have their regulars and its a pretty popular local spot. My uncle was all excited in telling us about it, and they even have a new spot in Fresno. As for the food, well... Probably the best mexican food i've ever had, hands down. ive gotten the chili verde burrito and the regular pork burrito. It's a little hole-in-the-wall spot but they have an excellent menu and really speedy service. The staff is really friendly. i got there once like 5 minutes before they closed and they served me like usual and didn't have any attitude or showed any irritation at all. They just made the food and served me with a smile =) My only complaint is that they close every day at 2 pm, which is really odd. It makes it difficult to get there on time for lunch if you want to dine in and you definitely can't go there to eat for dinner because they'll be closed. Love this place! Delicious, authentic, original recipes! Super old, but they keep it very clean. I believe this is passed down for a few generations, and original recipes. The waitress admitted she'd had too much of her mimosa earlier in the day- it was so cute. But the service was still great-- buzzed waitress or not. Both of these restaurants are fabulous. The one in the tower is a little more expensive, but I'm sure it is because of the rent. For this reason, I like the one in Chinatown better. You have to try the deep fried pork chop! They actually take the pork chop and place it in the fryer. So not healthy but the flavor is incredibly delicious. This place is mostly regulars who have been going to this place since their childhood--like myself. Maybe it's nostalgia but man... this is my favorite place to frequent on the weekend. It's also located in the heart of Chinatown so not the best neighborhood. Anyway... the refried beans are made with manteca/lard and they are AMAZINGLY delicious. So warning to all vegans lol. The menudo is also the best in the Fresno/Clovis area. This place is family owned and they've been in business for decades. With that being said the atmosphere of this little restaurant is not fancy or contemporary at all people return because of the food being so darn good.
