Call in if you're looking to attend class soon, but stick to email if your inquiry isn't urgent. It does take some time for them to get back to you because they have so many people to get back to. I reached out via email because I wanted to take a hip hop class for fun but lack dance experience. The best thing about a private session is that tutors cater their lessons to suit your level and pace. After further consultation about the type of dance style and music I was interested in, they helped me book an appointment. I also wanted to note that I was being rather difficult due to a change in my schedule and went back and forth about attending the class. I initially asked for a refund but ultimately decided to attend and the staff were really understanding about it. A class costs about $100 not including other add-ons (music video editing and filming). If you decide to schedule a private session you should have the following information prepared -location you want the session at (you're responsible for renting the studio space if you choose Manhattan) -dates and time preferences for the session (classes are based on instructor availability which typically means most weekends during the afternoon or evening) -style of dance and music suggestions (instructor ultimately decides on the routine and song but you can tell them what you're looking for) Once you're booked you'll get a confirmation email and payment instructions. Payments must be made at least 2 days in advance before your class. GETTING THERE: You can take the F to Parsons and hop on the Q65 bus if you don't want to take the LIRR. I believe the F, 7, N, and Q can also take you there but expect to do a couple of transfers if you don't live in the area. I'm hours away from the flushing location but I made the trip based on reviews. I'm not confident enough to perform in groups and decided a private session would be a good way to start. I heard how welcoming and friendly the instructors and students are at this place so decided to give it a shot. THE LESSON: I just finished my private lesson with Christina and I feel empowered. We danced to Ariana Grandes God is a Woman which was originally prepared for one of their intermediate classes. Her choreography really had me feelin myself. I have two left feet and at times got really nervous trying to be technically accurate but Christina was so patient with me and gave excellent tips on how to loosen up and enjoy dance. She broke down all the steps clearly, slowly and then we practiced on an off with music. I definitely want to continue practicing and come back for lessons again. Also, as a heads up be sure to ask if you can record the session because they typically only record when you're done with the entire choreography. For those of you who are beginners as well, live close to Manhattan, and want to try group classes she recommends Ness and Fernando (my spelling might be inaccurate) if you're looking to learn upbeat hip hop style dance. They teach on Wednesday and Friday. Overall, this class really helped boost my confidence and it was worth the cost and trip.

To my dismay, this did not occur. Many of the dance instructors showed a lack of creativity, and some movements for the younger classes were not age appropriate. My granddaughter said she felt isolated as a new student because the dance instructors showed obvious preference toward the students who were there the previous years. She did not feel a sense of fellowship as a member of the group which should have been fostered by the dance instructors. The instructors also offered little positive instruction when critiquing a dancer's missteps. They did, however, insult the dancer's intellect, which caused shame and insecurity. It's also essential to know, classes aren't held every Saturday as expressed during registration, and you won't get everything that was promised with the registration fee. Keep in mind that Devore Dance charges you for the last month of classes right at the start, even though no classes are actually happening that month. So, you end up paying double for the first month of dance lessons as well as the required registration fee. My interaction with the staff was also pretty unpleasant; I found them to be rude and dismissive. They showed a lack of interest in my concerns or questions, as though they were not knowledgeable or affiliated with the Devore Dance Center. Overall, I do not recommend Devore Dance Center as your upcoming dance experience on any level. This experience was HORRIBLE and not worth the hassle, stress or money! As someone who supports Black owned Businesses, I am truly disappointed and expected more.

My daughter went from being a shy 4 year-old in pre-ballet, to a confident 5 year-old on stage in front of a packed audience performing ballet/jazz. Sure, the elevator is maddeningly slow, (take the stairs), and the website is a bit of a spazz. And though new parents are hit with an almost overwhelming amount of information leading up to the photo days, mandatory dress rehearsals, and dance recitals, there's a reason this studio has lasted a decade in the community. At the center is a group of dance instructors, and an owner that cares deeply for the success of the children that enter this studio. You can see the evidence of this in the friendships that flourish, and the bonding that takes place in the rehearsal space, in between classes, at community outings, and on stage. Queens parents, if you're looking enrich your child's learning, and get them in dance, All Stars Studios is a solid investment. You can also take a free trial class to see if it's a good fit.

Both my daughter and now, my son are students here and we are so pleased with the studio. The staff cares for the kids as their own. The atmosphere is full of respect, love and kindness towards the students. My kids actually love going to dance class each week. The online registration and payment system makes everything neat and organized and self-service. They often have little fundraiser nights for things such as, recently, Dance Studios affected by Hurricane Florence, where they collected old shoes and had a movie and dance party for the kids while the parents got to enjoy a few hours on a Friday night sans kids. They are socially responsible and instill those values as well. Even the vending machine caters to healthy snacks rather than sugary treats. The annual show gets better and better every year both from an organizational standpoint as well as a dance showcase. I am so happy that my kids are here, there's no place better!
