Catch 'em while you can the art collective know as Cub is open for business at 28 York Place Studios until May. The name is derived from the names of artists-in-residence Fox Fisher and Stephanie Young (Young/Fox, gedditt? Oh, never mind...) whose limited edition screen prints and art brighten up an otherwise dreary strip of shops.
Fox Fisher's work focuses on love in all its myriad glory her 12 x 12 (album sleeve size) canvases feature her hand drawings of caged birds, love potions, broken hearts and sexed-up hedgehogs (if you are wondering how hedgehogs have sex, the answer is very carefully). The drawings are screen printed onto beautiful paper from antiquarian books, sealed with varnish and hand embroidered. Steph's speciality is muscle boys and ladies with lips and whips.
Also featured at the moment are Kate Kamikaze (feathers, fascinators and burlesque books); Jack Nash (seductive Sirens); and Jane Sampson (evocative, haunting, screen prints).
When I dropped in today Fox Fisher told me that the featured art is a moveable feast so keep an eye out next time you are on your way to Aldi or The Hobgoblin. read more
