My husband and I saw a Joan Miró exhibit and they hadn't yet mounted the Belle Epoch show that I saw advertised outside and was most interested in-- couple weeks away yet. so we saw a few rooms of Miró. Much as I try, I just can't really get into his stuff. We were also a bit confused as to how they organized/ arranged the show. Dates were scattered around and it didn't seem immediately apparent to us why it was arranged as it was. Nice spaces, in what I imagine was a former government office building? Be into the show if you go to this one- it's letite, but might just be a gem of a stop for the right content.

And there's no way I'm lining up for that. Thankfully Yelp guided me to THIS museum, the Fundación Mapfre. Which is a small little gallery, two floors (main floor and a basement floor). Wonderful staff, the security guard is especially manly and handsome. The time I visited, it featured a photography exhibition by amazing Garry Winogrand, a New York street photographer. Would love to talk more about him, but this exhibition especially found his unpublished work. Developed the films (unpublished, never seen before) and showed them in very nice and elegant frames. Photos can look ordinary but when a gallery can showcase them like art, it makes a big difference. So thank you to Fundación Mapfre for this exhibition. And other exhibitions they do!! All year long. Check out the website to see its past and current events. Did I mention this is free?!? Oh and people actually shish each other if they talk too loud. Fun fun fun.

Cork, and lots of it. This quaint little shop sells it by the sheet, totally natural if that's what…read moreyou're after, and also they offer a variety of cork-based products and effects. I can't think of many shops that sell ONLY cork around here (there are many more in southern Portugal, for example, where cork trees (alcornoques) are ubiquitous. The shop itself is small-ish and cute, with big plate-glass windows framed in blue. All of the products are on display in the showroom, and surprisingly things are not too expensive. For a project of mine I bought four big sheets of raw cork-board for 20 euros total, or five euros per sheet. The owner/attendant is a Spanish woman who only speaks Spanish, so if you want to go in there you'll have to know a little in order to help her understand what it is that you want. Pointing works too, I suppose. Cork is "corcho" and board is "plancha", so if you know those two things you can at least get what seems to be their most popular product. This woman is VERY nice and good-humored, and took the time to explain to me how to care for the product and even gave me some advice for my project (picture frames). Without her advice, I would have made some dire mistakes. I'm grateful, so hear me when I say that this place is inexpensive and the service is prompt and robust. Great find in the side-streets of La Latina.

The art was amazing especially if you like punk or rock and roll! I purchased a bunch of prints i can't wait to frame! The locations is very good and by a bunch of great shops, bars, and restaurants! Writing this review right now makes me miss Madrid! Can't wait to go back and specifically go here.
