First and foremost, Stephen positioned himself as the middleman in a legal matter for profit. I was clear that Stephen was not my lawyer, as I was representing myself Pro Se. However, against my better judgment, Stephen insisted that I should trust a server he recommended. When issues inevitably arose, this server completely stopped communicating with me and insisted that everything go through Stephen. It quickly became apparent that the only reason I continued to pay him for his so-called "legal advice" was because I needed him to rectify the problems he had introduced. The server Stephen recommended was not only unreliable but also highly unprofessional. They missed deadlines, were late in serving the necessary documents, and, shockingly, there was even an instance where they failed to serve the Respondent the complete writ order. This monumental blunder had a devastating impact on my case in court, and I finally told them both to end this madness. Instead of an apology or five, Stephen then had the audacity to send me a final bill for services I never received! It's incredibly frustrating and disheartening to think that there are people like Stephen out there who are willing to take advantage of individuals in vulnerable situations. I hardly received any legal advise, Stephen came in unprepared so I would have to repeat what the session was booked for, and when I literally booked him to prep me for a next day hearing, he didn't think I had one scheduled! Protect yourself and your interests, and seek out reputable professionals who genuinely have your best interests at heart. Stephen is unequivocally not one of them. If I could assign zero stars or even negative stars I would - trust me I tried. Just beware....Stephen will be your friend one day and the next he will deceive you, make you promises and never come thru as he said he would, then he will work with the other attorney to benefit him and his practice. Stephen plays the 'family' card, the 'church' card and the 'I am here for you' card well. Stephen told me that me had me and my children's best interests, however he did not demonstrate this at all. Stephen was more interested in growing his practice (both in locations and in service) than to represent me and my children. Several times Stephen's office mistakenly sent me emails intended for his other clients giving me an update on THEIR case, with private and sensitive information included in the e-mail making me wonder if his office sent my case, my information to another client of his. Stephen's office set up a hearing with my ex-wife's attorney for Travis County Court house (keep in mind that I was living in Dallas at the time) and his office requested for me to attend this hearing. When I arrived in Austin (involving a 3+ hour drive) I called Stephen asking if he wanted to meet before our hearing and he was confused as he was scheduled to attend a mediation for another client. His office scheduled him for my hearing and scheduled him for the mediation but Stephen did not even know about my hearing - he was surprised and obviously he did not even prepared for my hearing. I found his knowledge of family law good at times and lacking at others (such as not knowing what a Guardian Ad Litem was when this was suggested during a mediation). Additionally, I realized that Stephen would rather mediate my divorce (we went to mediation 2 times - requirement is only for you to go 1 time). Both the mediator (a past Judge) and I did not feel that a second mediation would work, but I listened to Stephen and guess what? Results were me paying Stephen to sit at his desk and not resolution for my divorce. The Guardian Ad Litem involved in my divorce had to beg Stephen to set hearings on behalf of the children (she asked at least 3 times before Stephen set the hearing). Thankfully the hearing was a success but only due to the GAL and the parent facilitator's testimony - Stephen asked 3 questions at most - the testimony from the GAL and parent facilitator is what led to the hearing going well. I finally had to 'fire' Stephen due to my feeling that he lacked the ability to complete my divorce - ironically I found an attorney that picked up where Stephen had left it and she finalized the divorce at a hearing that was not even suppose to address the finalization of the divorce. Stephen may try to take credit for the finalization of the divorce, but both he and I know the truth. Stephen asked me to use my boat as 'trade' for his services, I was happy to loan him my boat and this is when I received more calls from his office than before. His office manager must have called me 5+ times in 2 days and guess what? There was not credit given on my billing for this 'trade'. If you want a passive attorney that will talk a good game - he is your man. If you want an attorney with integrity, an attorney that will get you results, look elsewhere. read more

I had Stephen Putonti as my family law Attorney and I would NOT recommend using him. First of all, his background is not in family law and I'm unsure if he fully understands the legality of it. He was completely inept in the courtroom; showing signs of being overwhelmed, inadequacy of legal terminology and leaving out simple objections (hearsay, etc).
