Rave Review YYC: CityNews Calgary Despicable…read more Rogers/City News Calgary Although I had grown up listening to 660 news during my grade school years little did I realize I was voting for a place that only deliverse half truths and misinformation. I was the web editor for almost 12 months in 2022. The hiring process is fairly simple which included a quick phone interview to screen you followed by a virtual interview and takes a total of around a couple of weeks. Overall speaking to my experience the true verdict is it's an incredibly toxic work place for women of colour too with sky high turnover rates. It makes sense as they are really unethical in how they treat they employees. If the Calgary/YYC racism task force sees this please forward to said mentioned link below. Please read the full Glass Door review at the following: INSERT LINK https://www.glassdoor.ca/Reviews/Rogers-Sports-and-Media-Reviews-E6952712.htm Transparency: 1/5 Accountability: 1/5 authenticity including diversity and inclusion: #BIPOC washing: yes definitely! -Unfair compensation: You will not receive equal pay for equal work especially if you are a person of minority group such as from a different ethnic background including being a woman of colour constant abuse: the management are incredibly abusive resulting in a toxic work environment and a high employee turnover rate in which people are dropping like flies Unfair hiring process: I worked full time for over 6 months and despite passing probation and getting good ratings they would not give me one of the two open full time editor roles despite my now 2 years of experience and bachelors degree and full availability. No equal pay for equal work $33 /hr versus $21/ hr (consistently asked for a full time role after my probation and the supervisor at the time kept making excuses they were on the second round of interviews- this was in April 2022. They ended up hiring an employee at the end of July who had less post secondary education, credentials and experience compared to me for the full time role. I worked full time for part time pay at half the discount for over 6 months and was not compensated. This is nearly thousands of dollars in lost income. No growth or opportunities for part timers: Even after I was tossed off the schedule in August 2022 and had little to no full time income for the next two months as I had to look for another job. i was only on weekend and the person supervising me was a abusive narcissist and said person continued to gaslight by Enforcing a fake quota for daily news deadlines just for me. (wasn't in the job description), placing unrealistic expectations on me and expected me to do four jobs in one for half the pay (writer/editor/social media coordinator/reporter) but didn't do it to the other web editors. in the job description it said there was no mandatory quota but she did try to enforce it on me, Micro Managing: the boss didn't know how to give constructive feedback. At times I did agree with the person like repetitiveness and accuracy but the rest of the time was just false accusations and threats. For minor grammar mistakes she would immediately call you via a Microsoft team call and begin yelling at you in front of others instead of using a normal and respectful tone of voice. Psychological Abuse: Micro management including weekly performance reviews in which i was consistently abused and not given constructive feedback. No other employee in the web team gets these, including the new hire who plagiarised other people's articles because he is inexperienced and doesn't know CP style. Other red flags: Fake feedback/Non-constructve criticism: Weekly performance reviews just for me and not for other coworkers even past probation which didn't really provide constructive feedback or teach me anything, for example during a big web meeting we had near the end of July 2022 you can tell from her body language she's a really abusive person she would roll her eyes and try to intimidate you. She locked me into a private room and told me that I'm lucky to have a job (again with the subtle racism/discrimination/bigotry she thinks i didn't notice) and they can hire someone else if i don't improve. She didn't do this to the other workers. COVID-19: I had tested positive for Covid-19 on July 8 and she badgered me into working in person in the office newsroom the following Saturday knowing I still had symptoms and as a result I spread the virus around to my co-workers who also tested positive. 3. On my very last day Dec. 24 I was getting a ride from my mother to work and the road conditions were bad due to the snow/weather. Normally when I'm running late I would notify the radio people in the newsroom but this person also said that I have to let her run late even for 5 minutes even though she's in Vancouver. Our car spun off the side of the highway and we could've been seriously injured or worse. When I arrived at work they showed no remorse.

Everyone who watches TV has an order of which they flip through channels. You have your favourites…read morethat you flip to first, then your few blocks of channels that are usually decent and then the rest that you flip through JUST in case they have somehow got the rights to a show you actually like. Without my even realizing it, CityTV Calgary (Channel 8) has become one of my favourites. While I make my coffee in the morning, I flip to Jill Belland on Breakfast Television, which is hands down the morning show of choice for a lot of Calgarians. It's relaxed - no one is in a suit, it's okay if they make a sassy comment and they aren't trying to punch you in the face with hard hitting journalism, they just want to give you something a little better than background noise in the morning. I usually don't tune back in until after the evening news - which I don't even know if they produce anymore...? It's not that I think they do a bad job with the evening news but I will say - the casualness of their morning show subconsciously influences me into believing that their evening news would be of the same style - sassy and surface. Then they program the lion's share of decent Americana TV. The Bachelor/Bachelorette, 30 Rock, Hell's Kitchen, ect. But what I like about it is they engage Calgarians in these TV shows as much as we want to be engaged. They blog about them with a Calgarian POV, they have contests and form partnerships that relate to the programming and the community and they do their best not to hand over their station's identity to NBC every night at 8pm. This review is starting to feel a little deep - but I appreciate the way CityTV builds and supports community in the ways it can.
