All the rest stops in CT look the same to me. Located along the highway it's a quick drive in/out scenario. Trucks and campers park in the back, cars at the side. The parking lot is a dangerous place. Drivers seem unaware of their surroundings. Hypoglycemia making them confused? In need of caffiene perhaps. Tesla charging stations are at the end of the parking lot furthest from the building. There are several gas pumps in front of the building. All parking lot traffic flows through this area making for another round of possible danger as cars pull away from the pumps. Be vigilant my friend. Inside the building seems clean. You'll find DD's, Sbarro, Panera, McD's,Chipotle, CT information desk and a large, open dining area in the main hall. Restrooms are at the far end of the hall, past all the food vendors and were pretty clean for a weekend, mid-day. No paper seat covers in the stalls, wide gaps between the door and the stall wall (why are they made this way?!) auto flush toilets, touchless water at the sinks, automatic hand dryers, no doors in/out of the rest room. The dining area is in the middle front of the building. Tables are spaced far apart, so not a huge amount of seating, but it appears most folks got their food 'to go' and seats were available. Trash bins are located in this area. Everyone busses their own table. Many more food options are just off the highway and possibly offer better pricing. If you are trying to save time or just need to make a pit stop this is your place.

Have I really gotten to the point in my Yelp career where I'm reviewing a rest stop off of the side of the I-95 highway? Well, here goes anyway, because the CT Welcome Rest Area is actually one of the nicer and more well maintained rest stops I've encountered on my New England journeys. When you're traveling on I-95, this is the first rest stop you'll encounter, and it actually provides a decent welcome to the state. There's plenty of fill-up stations for gas, ample and clean bathrooms, more than a few fast food options (McDonald's, Dunkin' Donuts, Subway), and even a candy store! The attached convenience store is pretty next-level, and offers a wide variety of candy, drinks, and even healthy snacks and fancy jerky. The building is clean and well lit for the most part, and even I (resident Nervous Nellie) felt comfortable spending time here when we stopped. People might @ Connecticut for being the drive through equivalent of a flyover state, but with rest stops this nice, I'd be glad to travel through here anytime!

A rather crummy rest stop. This is right off 95 so it figures in a way. Yet what a mess it is, to get in here and out. Traffic in this area is not your friend. The same goes for all the folks in here. I get it we're all tired, and maybe a little grumpy from the drive. Yet people seemed to have lost their most basic of manners. Was cut off several times, in of all places the Sbarro's line. Not the best food. On a plus note, they are cheaper than McDonald's. Want a $14 or more value meal? Apparently that's the cost many fork over here. Personally I find that to be nuts. There isn't a great selection of restaurants. The best part is it's a place to stretch, and use the relatively clean restrooms. It's another traffic jam, and while happy to walk a little bit, this place is always busy.

This is an exceptionally nice welcome center / rest area along the northbound Governor John Davis Lodge Turnpike in Darien, Connecticut. The facility is nice and big with plenty of room for parking your car, bus, RV, truck, etc... They even have a couple charging stations if you need to energize your Tesla. If you drive a more traditional vehicle there are Mobil branded gas and diesel pumps from which you may fill your fuel tank. There's even free air if you need to pump up a tire. The spacious parking lot is well-maintained, clean and free of debris. Access in and out is very easy. The large building is very clean and modern. There is a large court in the center with plenty of tables and chairs so you can sit down to enjoy a meal from one of the many restaurants or just open up your laptop and take advantage of the free Wi-Fi. Food choices are plentiful with Subway, McDonald's, Sbarro, Dunkin' Donuts, Taco Bell and Chipotle all doing business here. There's also a candy store called IT'SUGAR if you want to indulge your sweet tooth. Curiously there is no dedicated ice cream purveyor like there are in many other areas so you'll need to settle for soft serve ice cream from McDonald's or some prepackaged ice cream from Alltown Market which is a convenience store also located in the welcome center. Alltown stocks most everything you would expect to find in a modern convenience store. There are also some vending machines and an ATM on the premises. Restrooms are large enough to handle the travel crowd, they are well-stocked and properly maintained. I also appreciated the cleanliness and the fact that everything was in good repair and functioned as intended. Overall, this is a pretty impressive welcome center.

A little out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the city, but still so close to restaurants and night life in Stamford. The room and entire place was extremely clean, quiet, with no stupidity or worries. The bed and pillows could use an upgrade, but the price was so reasonable and the place so quiet and well run that we would definitely stay again and would recommend.

The rooms are small and the amenities are minimal, but that should be expected at an inexpensive hotel like this. However, the elevator buttons are broken (you even have to push up to go down), it smells strongly of mildew in the hallways and in my room, there are stains and hair on the carpeting, no ventilation in the bathroom, and the room phone is broken and doesn't work. The furnishings, appliances, and cable box setups are outdated. Everything is a little crimand worn. I ended up canceling two of my three nights. They were very good about refunding the two, and I would definitely consider staying here in the future if I had heard that they had major refresh. As it is, I'll be leaving in the morning.

I was denied service and yelled at by a rude and disrespectful attendant. As I pulled up, the left side of the gas station had cones on it, I'm assuming due to gas pumps not working. There was one car on the other side, pumping gas and I went ahead and drove up behind it. The attendant started screaming at me to back up. I asked, why do I need to back up when my gas tank is on the right side. He just continued to ignore me and yell out to go on the other side and back up. I tried to explain to him that I'm standing in exact position as the car in front of me and willing to wait. Again he ignored me and yelled out to back up, mocking me and saying, don't you know how to back up? As the car in front of me was done, there was plenty of room for it to go forward and exit, but instead the attendant screamed at me to back up and even though I did back up, the car in front just exited going forward. As I was about to go forward, to have my car filled up, the attendant deliberately ignored me and let other cars go ahead of me, completely ignoring me. I asked for the supervisor, he said no and turned his back to me, servicing other cars. This by far was the worst experience I've ever encountered at the full service gas station. I was ignored, mocked and yelled at for absolutely no reason at all! Never going back!

The attendant scammed/intimidated my teen out of $10, claiming he was supposed to get a tip. Avoid!read more
