I walk in the door and before I could even sit down one of the 3 guys cutting hair ask me if I had an appointment. I said no and he said sorry it's appointment only and we are booked today and tomorrow but you can make an appointment for another day. Is this a barbershop or a salon? Usually you just wait for the next guy to be finished and walk ins are welcome. Nope, not this place and not with any of these 3 guys. Apparently they're too good for walk ins. And just a side note, it doesn't say anywhere that it's appointment only.

The shop is always clean, and gets busy on the weekends (a sign of community support for a job well done) so come early! ;-) There is always entertainment available, through numerous TV screens (one per barber chair and a big 40+ inch in the back wall), music and staff engagement. Parking is street parking but I haven't had a problem finding a spot to park in any of the adjacent streets. During the winter parking can be a challenge due to the city's snow removal issues, but still manageable. Stop by and check them out.

Walk ins are welcome but since most people make appointments you're rolling the dice if you just walk in. Also, Allan has a BIG heart and he's a GREAT guy! Some people see him as a little rough on the edges but, as someone who has been around many people of various backgrounds, I find that these impressions are false and are just related to culture differences and nothing bad. I work for a goverment agency to oversee if establishments follow guidelines for the type of businesses they run. First, never witnessed one barber there, cleaning their razons other then brushed them off. Never seen them spraying on a disinfectant. Also, with there use off a shave razon for beards/neck there is a Connecticut law that states that the blade has to be changed after each client to protect the client to ensure hygiene and cross-contamination.

He struggles with sensory overload, and while he may not fit a "typical" mold of autism, his challenges are real. Unfortunately, most of the staff did not seem welcoming or understanding. There was visible annoyance during his outbursts, and very little effort was made to make him feel comfortable. What was most upsetting was being told that if my son is "this difficult," I should cut his hair at home. That was incredibly discouraging to hear from a place that claims to specialize in working with children on the spectrum. Families like mine need patience and compassion -- not judgment.
