I've been donating at Talecris since August 2011. My first appointment took about 3 hours and I…read moregot lucky because I was a walk-in and they made room for me. Since then, they have changed the rules so you have to make an appointment every single time...the wait time has been significantly reduced since they started doing that. Everyone I have encountered at the center is friendly and willing to answer questions. I enjoy going to Talecris twice a week to a) get out of the house, and b) make a little bit of extra money. It is important to remember to eat a balanced meal both the day before and the day of your donation and to drink plenty of water. If you eat really fatty foods before donating, they may not be able to use your plasma...so be conscious of what you put in your body. Also be sure to rehydrate yourself well afterwards. It's not like donating blood...they don't provide any snacks or juice (although they do have vending machines).

The staff has become increasingly incompetent, with inexperienced technicians who jab your arm blindly. When they fail to get a proper flow, they simply blame it on the donor having 'bad veins.' I returned today after recovering from the flu, only to have two inexperienced techs repeatedly probe my vein. Even when the machine alerted them of a poor flow, their only solution was to jab me further. I eventually had to refuse when they tried to move to my left arm. To make matters worse, they seem to have changed their pay structure. Compensation used to be for your time, but now it seems to be based solely on the volume collected. Last year, a technician blew my vein and caused a severe hematoma (see attached pictures). You're better off doing DoorDash than letting these 'pretend' technicians play with your health.

So. Let's start this review with the cons just to get them out of the way. Management treats the…read moreemployees here like herding dogs; making them deal with sometimes literally 50-60 people at once. There is only so much staff to go around and this results in the line getting backed up fairly badly. They usually have 1-2 people on booths doing vitals and the like, but you can be waiting in line for a good while. The staff however work hard to get the lines moving people stuck, and to diffuse tense situations cause by guests who for some reason think they are being wronged by having to wait. Yeah it can be a hassle to wait to get stuck, or wait to even get into a chair, but if you look at it from the financial angle, you are still getting paid upwards to $80 for less than a single days work. Why complain? I haven't seen any holiday bonuses this year, but having said that I still walk away each week after 2 40 minute donations with $160. Lets do the math on that $160 a week times 4 weeks is....? Yeah a lot for sitting in a chair watching TV. To reiterate yes waiting is annoying as heck, but the pay out, overshadows any minor inconveniences that pop up. The staff is helpful, and sociable. They aren't hard to strike up a fun conversation with. And you can here them giving each other a hard time the whole time you are there. The atmosphere in the center is warm and inviting, when the donors are not being toxic and demanding. The phlebotomists keep and eye out for problems while you donate such as, but not limited to; Air in the line, Issues with the line causing high pressure returns, slow donations, ect. Management is not "bad" per say, but I've seen a lot of the once wholesome group gone now due to issues they took up with the company. Not really my concern, but being short staffed is not the staffs fault. Nor is it the staffs responsibility to dote upon donors who come in with a prior existing attitude. I see alot of people angry at the fact that "I was here first!", and while I get it. There is an item known as an express pass that is given to donors who donate (X) number of times as a reward for not abusing the new donor pay policies. Continued donations results in express pass users being able to "skip the line" and jump to the front. One is given to new donors as well to decrease the time they spend jumping through the hoops necessary for being cleared to donate. While the express pass is annoying, it has always existed in most if not all donation centers to give people a reason to continue onward with their donating. I has literally never not existed and to complain about it now is just pointless. Yeah its annoying when you've been waiting a bit and someone jumps in front of you when you finally hit first place in the line. It is very annoying. But to discredit the fact that this has happened to the person jumping ahead in line probably countless times is more or less hypocrisy. When you get a chance to jump to the front you would use it right? Yeah that's what I thought. Another issue that I believe requires addressing is the huge influx of new donors. Covid-19 has put a lot of people out of work and many are searching for a safe new way to make a little extra money to help pay the insanely high amount of bills people are for some reason getting stuck with. New donors every day especially during this time should not come as a surprise. That said, the line is getting frustratingly long, and waiting for 19 people just to get deferred is not a pleasant experience. All in all the place is fun, interesting, and pleasant to visit, but current situations have put a large damper on the once Incredible center. The place itself hasn't changed much, and its staff are still some of the best I've met since I started donating over 14 years ago. Check the place out and give it a chance. Just leave bad attitudes and un-realistic expectations at home. These are rough times, and everyone could use a break from the negative.

I have been coming here for several years, and I wouldn't say it's the best place, but it's not the…read moreworst. It pays good, and you can get in and out pretty quick. As far as quality goes though there is much to be desired. The lady that took the needle out after I donated, I believe her name was Divia, Really needed to change her gloves, the palms of them were brown, and they were wet, I think she had just been washing her gloves. This is unacceptable and extremely unsanitary. Besides this, though I have had good experiences, Brian Leer, one of the phlebotomist, is amazing. he's always friendly, he does a very good job. Probably the last thing I would like to mention is the conversation of the staff and the content on the TV is straight up inappropriate most the time. I don't watch TV anyways, but there's six of them and I can't help seeing it sometimes and the last time I was there, they literally had naked women on the TV for most of the time I was there. If you want to watch pornography, that is your prerogative, but I'm coming to your establishment to do business, I don't want it in my face the whole time. I don't think any of this is unreasonable to mention and I hope someone in authority can correct these issues this place has plenty of potential, but there are some things that need to be addressed.
