Overcharge and most don't have a clue how to file. My taxes were done by a CPA who sold out to these crooks. They will lie and say you need an extension and charge you extra for filing it. Able to do basic taxes if all you have is a W-2. Completely incompetent when it comes to anything more complicated. I continued to use them when my accountant was bought out by CSIK. Big mistake. I know little to nothing about taxes but have had to point out to them several times basic mistakes. The latest is going to cost penalties from the IRS, simply because every time I pointed the problem out, they denied it was an issue. I have also used their estate planning service, which again, was very unsatisfactory. And while they can handle only the simplest of estate plans, the question is why spend any money with this firm. read more

Bob why did you have to merge into this terrible firm and then retire on me! Since they took over they have raised the cost of a simple 1040 return year over year by a substantial amount. Now this year they are even being as petty as passing the credit card fees on to the customer (double whammy). No tax organizer sent this year, so I had to make my own and included notes for the accountant, the he didn't read and wound up emailing me the same questions that I already answered. - Bottom line - HR Block kind of poor service, with large firm price tag. - Poor communication, and nickel and dime over credit card fees. If I am going to take the standard the deduction I might as well just plug the numbers into Turbo Tax. - Avoid this company at all costs. read more

By far the worst experience with an accounting firm (or any professional services firm). I can't get my taxes done and I can't communicate with anyone except by calling the main number and being on hold. In most cases the person who answers the phone puts me on hold and relays a message to me but does not permit me to speak with my accountant. I upload documents onto their portal and feel as if they went into a black hole. No communication - except they did call me once at dinner time to ask for a number, and then when I called back I couldn't reach the person and since I can't email the info, I had to create a word document with one number and upload it to the portal. I am used to portals that allow messaging - this one does not. Update: I called today and actually got my accountant, who yelled at me that it's my fault for not asking for an email address when I said that I had no easy way to communicate with him. That is only the second time I have spoken with him since March - even though I asked to speak with him each time I called the main number. He did leave a phone message on Friday (I am writing this on Monday) with a question that I would have preferred to receive via email so that I could actually research it and get back to him, since it was not something that I would have been able to answer without doing research. I then told him that I couldn't see continuing to work together, and he said that I was not a good client and essentially fired me. And then 5 minutes later, when I went to see which documents I uploaded to the portal (so that I could be reminded about the documents that I will need to share with a new accountant - since I had uploaded the main documents in March and this information is no longer top-of-mind), he had already locked me out of the portal. The ONLY thing that they did in a timely manner was to their benefit and my detriment. It is late May and I have received NOTHING from them. Don't recommend. read more

My accountant sold out his practice to the CSI group and although I loved him, I am extremely disappointed in CSI's service. First of all, they control all his phone calls. I cannot even talk to my accountant without going through a switchboard. I have since gotten my accountant's cell phone. What is even worse is that they refuse to execute owed taxes electronically when I previously had this service. I had to send in a voucher with my SS# on my check via the Post Office. In addition, I was not allowed to even pick up the paperwork from my accountant. Instead, they mailed me my completed forms in an envelope marked confidential and my tax paperwork arrived opened. First, someone opened the seal (see photos) of the flap and second, the top was ripped open with someone's finger or a letter opener. I called them about the flap and they said that the power outages caused all their envelopes to stick together because they were no longer in a climate controlled room, so they had to re-open every envelope in their stock to use it. However, they said the fact that it was ripped open at the top, must be due to the Post Office. My opinion is that it is insane to send extremely confidential tax paperwork via first class mail. It should be sent certified or something more secure. I am so furious with all their rules and terrible service. I already found a new accountant for next year. The new account, who coincidentally is friends with my old accountant, said he is receiving a lot of my accountant's clients because many are complaining. When a company buys out a business, they need to keep at least similar levels of service. The service I got went from great to lousy. I cannot recommend them. read more

Nothing more than a H&R Block. Our personal accountant was bought by them so we followed. There is no guarantee who does your taxes and you never actually speak to the preparer. When I walked in I had to sit and wait for my appointment, because the couple before me was in the office having a screaming match with John. Then, when it was finally my turn, I was handled extremely bluntly, arrogantly and coldly while John Ciccarello sipped on his Dunkin-Donut Iced Coffee... 3 minutes and 7 computer-button pushes later, I was told I owed $500, (almost my entire tax return of 2 years). When I pushed back and asked questions, I was told there wasn't anything else they could do, and John Ciccarello even threw in my face that my appointment had to be cancelled in the past. (I could not make the last appointment due to Tornado warnings and storms.) I would HIGHLY recommend you do your taxes on your own or just simply use a free app. (It's very easy!) I am incredibly disappointed from start to finish. Staff did not follow-up on questions and demonstrated an attitude when confronted. This was the first time I used them and I will not used again. I asked for an estimate and office staff never gave me the answer despite several requests. I brought my mother and they charged her a very high rate and indicated they spent a significant time on the return. I asked for them to reconsider and I was told they would not consider as the individual aspects of her return required much work. I am doubtful and the attitudes did not mirror a family approach and a family that I no longer want to be affiliated. read more

Terrible tax services. They have had my paperwork since mid-March. Called 4 times to get update on progress. Every time I was told the return was in progress. I called earlier this week as I have yet to receive any insight on my taxes. They advised that I should not worry as they will file an extension on my behalf. when I advised that I knew I owed this year and did not want to pay interest, they told me they would expedite my return this week. Called again today to be told they cannot get it done and will file an extension. When I expressed my displeasure with the outcome, they told me they are dropping my as their client and will return my paperwork. Very unprofessional. This place is a total hoax. I went there a month before taxes were due. I became nervous when I did not hear back from them and decided to call. They informed me that oops they're running behind and they had to file an extension on my behalf. Nothing I was informed about. Certainly nothing I would agree to. They assured me that they would get my taxes done and I would hear back from them. Nothing. I called back a month later and was furious. They assured me they would expedite and call me that afternoon. Again nothing. I only took care of everything yesterday. Almost 3 months later. They were rude, And also also mentioned that they don't think I'm a good match for their company. I guess because I'm onto their BS. Do not use this fraudulent hoax of a company. We have multiple businesses and they agreed that we needed to file extensions, well they didn't file the extensions and get hit with fees and they refuse to acknowledge that those fees are their responsibility. I was told I would receive it when my return was acknowledged and approved by the IRS. I've sent several emails asking when my return was submitted and what does "approved by the IRS" mean. I haven't received a response. I call and am hung up on. I think their $350 fee for a federal and one state return was high for such lousy service (if they're going to give cut rate service their fees should be scaled accordingly). The CSI Group team at the Red Bank, NJ office are methodical in their approach and were professionals in filing our taxes. My wife and I were extremely satisfied with the CSI Group's service and we highly recommend them. Basically the front office administrator (Dennis) entered our 2023 tax paperwork information in their computer program and then CSI's CPA, John Ciccarello, came into the office and provided quick and professional tax services and recommendations. This is the first time I brought my wife to their office to file our taxes jointly as we were filing separately for so many years based on our previous tax preparer's recommendation. We found out from CSI's CPA John that was the incorrect way to file and he provided us with sound advice for filing our taxes going forward. My wife also referred her nephew to file with CSI and brought his 2023 tax paperwork. CSI's CPA John was able to quickly set up an account for my wife's nephew and file his taxes with a refund. We were so impressed that the three of us (my wife and I and her nephew) will file our taxes with CSI Group going forward. read more

When I called CSI to schedule an appointment, they told me they were great at tax problems, and priced the same with other firms. I had some tax work I needed corrected, and priced out 4 firms. The CSI rep I met with did a huge sales job on me when I drove and sat in his office. John Ciccarello did a very strong sales pitch on me. The other 3 firms I quoted came in at $ 2,500-$ 3,000. CSI was over $ 5,000+. I called John and left a message about the difference. He never called me back. I called the main office to talk to a partner about things. No one ever called me back. CSI is extremely tough to deal with, and pricey. To my followers: I would definitely give CSI a miss. There are too many reputable firms out there. Not worth the trouble. read more

They said they called to settle up my fee after my taxes were prepared. Not. They said they left a message. No way. Telling me I would not get my returns until I paid was very upsetting. I paid and it has been over a week. No return sent. My problem was that a great tax preparer I used for almost 30 years closed shop and is now working for them. My wife and I chose to work with the CSI Group for this year's tax return due to us beginning to grow our real estate portfolio and wanted expert help and guidance concerning our taxes as we felt they were becoming more complex. When we arrived for our appointment, our CPA John Ciccarello Jr rushed into the room and began looking over our documents. John was rude in his demeanor and in communication with us and told us that he had to hurry because he had another appointment in 15 minutes. This was the first time we were told how long the appointment would be and we were quite shocked. Had we known we would have only had 15 minutes in person with somebody, we never would have chosen CSI Group. Our final bill to CSI was $600. $600 for 15 rushed minutes. We would not have had an issue with the bill if it weren't for the lack of attention to our return as well as the zero transparency as to what the appointment lengths look like. I attempted to advise multiple people at CSI Group over the phone our experience with John as well as our dissatisfaction with the appointment length. No one seemed to have an issue with our experience and further had nothing to say in regards to John's attitude towards us. I requested another in-person appointment to go over the return to make sure everything was correct. They told us they would be unable to give us another in person appointment that would be longer than 15 minutes. We spoke with "Tony" multiple times over the phone who was helpful in going over a few key aspects of the return but was unable to help in regards to the behavior of his colleague or provide us with an in person appointment. We went into CSI Group wanting to be customers for life for not just our income taxes, but with tax help for our growing real estate business. Their website reads "Individual tax preparation and planning is a major segment and strength of the CSI Group, LLP. In fact, we have a department dedicated to individual tax preparation. Many mid-sized to large CPA firms often neglect individual tax preparation for the average, middle-class taxpayers. While tax preparation may be a nuisance to large CPA firms, to you, tax preparation may be the most important event of the year." This statement appeared to be in total contrast to the 15 minute rushed handling of our taxes. We will not be back and cannot recommend CSI Group Hillsborough for tax preparation. read more

I had my deceased parent's final tax refunds for 2021 and 2022 filed with CSI Group . 2021 was done wrong and said that my father was still alive. I asked for them to have them redone. I contacted them multiple times about that and they kept telling me that someone will call me back. Never happened. I did not receive anything back on that without a fight. I came in to the office to have the 2022 taxes and submitted the correct paperwork that they needed to have the taxes filed correctly for both years and they told me it was being filed electronically. I received a packet with the 2022 tax papers in the mail. I called them to find out why. They said that they were filed electronically and to disregard it. I decided to contact the IRS and the NJ division of taxation. They never received anything so I ended up up sending it in myself and had to pay extra money to send it in by USPS (I was never told that I had to do that). After calling multiple times and finally not taking no for an answer they agreed to email the tax paperwork and then told me that it had to be signed and mailed out. That should have been said months ago. After all the hassle, stress and extra money that I had to spend (I wasn't told that I needed to), I asked for some compensation to make things right. To no avail. They acted like nothing wrong was done and I don't deserve anything. This should not be done to anyone. This is extremely poor business. There should be no stress involved in filing takes after spending all the money that I have spent to have this done correctly and to be correctly informed read more
