Review Highlights - Crêperie Ahna

This restaurant was so good, after a lunch of amazing galetts for lunch, we went back for a desert crepe instead of dinner.

I went to Creperie Ahna three times during my recent stay in Dinan, so I feel pretty confident that…read moreI can review this charming place with more accuracy than a single visit. Visit 1: lunch, on a Monday. I ordered the duck galette with "escargot" butter (which is really just garlic/parsley butter. No snails!). Picture a lacy buckwheat crepe, crisp at the edges and paper thin - laid atop are several slices of seared duck breast meat, perfectly tender and appropriately rare -- poured over it all is a healthy (and by that I mean oh-so-unhealthy) dose of the aforementioned garlic butter made with amazing Breton butter. I took my first bite, and before I could stop myself said, out-loud, "oh f€*?%". It was that good. Also came with a nice little green salad. Meal 2: honestly, I just wanted to order that duck galette again, but I stopped myself. This time I went with a total classic, Fromage & jambon. The perfect amount of high quality filling, without being to rich or heavy. Washed down with a carafe of the house rose. Simple perfection. Meal 3: on my last night in Dinan I made reservations because it was a Friday night. The friendly waiter was pleased to see me yet again and gave me a Breton kir to start the meal, as well as a little fish appetizer, on the house. As much as I loved the galettes, I was ready to try their other specialty which (the name I forget) is a selection of meat that you cook yourself on a hot stone at the table. It comes accompanied with a leek gratin (ok), boiled potatoes, salad, and three "sauces". But let's be honest, 2/3 sauces were (incredible) flavored butters. I'm often hesitant of ever ordering food that I have to cook myself, seems like a waste, but this was so worth it. I had the duck/lamb/chicken/beef combo, and they were all tender and delicious. Especially slathered with those sauces. I followed this with a salted caramel crepe, and there is nothing they could have done to improve that dish. A perfect ending to a perfect meal. If you're ever in Dinan, you should be sure to go to Creperie Ahna. More than once.
