The server came around to grab dirty plates and cups. Food was ok. But again I only had pastries and desserts. The review is mostly about their service and the layout of the food on the table. We were bullied by Simply Elegant in to cancelling our contract. We have our event booked at…read moreWaterfront Parks (original venue at Skyline which apparently closed according to Simply Elegant) for July 2021 and they told us around 20 days before our event that there was a scheduling conflict so we cannot have the venue anymore on the date that we're suppose to have our event. They offered us a refund of the venue cost if we move our date, or move us to Venue 308 or Brownstone but with no compensation for the trouble, or full refund to cancel our event. We don't understand how they can double book the venue and choose to kick us out instead. Either they accidentally double booked or a bigger client wanted our date so Simply Elegant chose to boot us out, which was a clear breach of contract. We wanted a refund before (even just 75% of our money back) but they won't let us which I understood because we signed a contract but we asked them anyway just in case they will allow it. But for them to spring the news to us that we will not get the Waterfront Park venue 20 days before our event was so shady. They told us that there was a conflict with the Shriners which was a lie because we checked the Shriners website and they do not have an event at that venue on our date. We were left scrambling and we felt cheated and bullied by this company. We would be okay with them moving us to a different venue if they would just refund us the venue cost but they did not budge. They didn't even try to meet us halfway, they did not want to negotiate. We were suppose to have a skyline view, then they moved us to Waterfront Park which would have given us a lake view (so comparable to our original venue), but now they wanted to move us to another venue with no view - so we felt they should at least compensate us. Changing our date was not an option given how late it is already for us to ask our other vendors and our guests if they can work with that. We chose to support them during the pandemic but as soon as everything opened up, they chose to screw us over. I am 6 months pregnant and the emotional distress they have put me through is unbelievable - especially for a company that is supposed to be a champion in hospitality and client service. We decided to deal directly with the venue that they were going to move us to as I couldn't imagine them still holding our event after how they treated us. As soon as I told them that we would opt for the full refund (after us trying to negotiate and them not making any counteroffers), they told me that they will mail me the cheque - knowing full well that we need the money right away so we can pay the new venue and new caterer. There was no sense of urgency on their end. When we paid them they were etransferred so they received our money instantly, and for the refund they wanted to just mail the cheque. We ended up picking up the cheque and that's how our relationship with them ended. They're probably just going to delete this review....

The food we did get was a disaster. Undercooked vegetables, overcooked proteins, and laughably small portions. Guests were left hungry and confused. This wasn't a minor hiccup, it was a total bait and switch, and no one from the venue seemed to care. Keep in mind, this was their "diamond tier" package. What makes it worse is the way management handled feedback, with complete denial and deflection. They've gone as far as claiming the food was externally catered, even though years of reviews clearly state they don't allow outside catering. That kind of backpedaling tells you everything you need to know about their integrity. This place is not equipped professionally or ethically to host meaningful events. If you're planning a once-in-a-lifetime day, do yourself a favour and look elsewhere. You only get one shot at your big day. Don't waste it here. It would be cheaper to fly all your guests to Vegas and have it at a Chipotle, where you'd get better food.

I recently attended a wedding and can't help but feel so disappointed for the bride and groom who I estimate spent more than 50k for their once in a lifetime event. It was a disaster from the moment I walked in. There was a strong bathroom odor noticeable as I walked up the stairs to the main floor. The bar staff were drinking on the job, becoming visibly intoxicated as the night went on. Even worse, they were consuming alcohol provided by the wedding couple themselves. Not only is this wildly unprofessional, it is also likely a breach of their alcholol license. That level of unprofessionalism speaks volumes about the management and oversight at this venue. The catering was particularly appalling for a formal wedding. It would barely pass in a high school cafeteria. Minimally dressed salad, boiled carrots and zucchini, bland spaghetti, mashed potatoes with a thin layer of cheese on top, and "beef tenderloin" so tough it was inedible. The best dish was the salmon but they ran out of that before half the guest were served. The desert was measly chocolate squares served so late that many guests had already left. There was no one bussing the tables, refilling water or to even ask for service. This was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime event for the couple, and the venue failed them completely. I would strongly urge others to look elsewhere to celebrate any special event.

Basically, they offer a few different services, including rentals (we're talking antique furniture, mismatched vases, suitcases and other gloriously vintage goodies for event decor), as well as full event design. I went with the latter for my recent wedding, and hired Jessica to take the reigns when it came to decor for my event. Working with her was the perfect amount of collaboration for me. She listened to all my Pinterest-y ideas, took note of my dream theme, and ran with it. Every once in awhile we'd be in touch; she'd ask me my thoughts on burlap and other things, and pin decor ideas to my Pinterest board. I helped with some of the crafting (but honestly not that much) and worked on my own little projects for the day. I can't imagine what my day would have been like without her and her husband! A hell of a lot more stressful, I'll tell you that much. I also really appreciated their emphasis and support for other local artists. I could have ordered a zillion things on Etsy, from artists based in the U.S. and further (which I have no issue at all with, yay for Etsy!), but Jessica opened my eyes to a myriad of local Calgary artists who are doing amazing things in our city. I was thrilled to spend much of my wedding money supporting local artists. Let me just conclude with this. I was so, so touched by the little, thoughtful details she came up with. The decor was a perfect, symbolic marriage of both my new husband and I. If you want a wedding with charming, thoughtful decor and don't have the first clue where to start - check out Kismet & Clover!!!!! I recommend wholeheartedly.

I wasn't involved in planning the theme, colors and decorations (cause I'm a guy and my input is invalid), and that was okay with me. My wife claims Jessica was a breath of fresh air to work with and my only concern was the price (which was extremely reasonable and WELL WORTH IT). What I experienced from Jessica's end was on the day of the wedding. Unfortunately there were some flaws in the logisitics at the venue, the space was cramped, and the venue manager was bat sh*t crazy to put it nicely. Jessica took all the stress away from my wife (and as we know, a happy wife = a happy life), and made the event flawless, memorable, and an absolute delight. I can't say enough good things about Jessica and her help. The decorations as I'm told were beautiful and full of character. What I noticed the most was how much she cared, and how much she wanted to make our day better. Thank you Jessica! - The careless husband
