This place is adult beverage heaven! Crush Wine & Spirits absolutely crushes their competition in the area. The decor reminds me of actually going to a wine bar in the city, with their walls featuring a myriad of options. This location is conveniently next door to my best friend's boyfriend's apartment, so it's always a good idea to pop-in to grab a bottle. I think what I appreciate most about this shop is the layout. The establishment is well-lit and the aisles are more spacious than most wine shops. (I know real estate and layout are tough to get in the city, but at Crush I don't feel like I'm packed shoulder-to-shoulder with other shoppers.) This place is great. Check it out. I would give zero star if I could. I was searching for a specific wine everyday and it came on crush wine's website yesterday. My friend physically went to the store and wanted to purchase all 9 btls they had and the owner refused to sell them all. My friend was given only three bottles. He quickly called me to let me know of their inventory so I can get some too. I called and Tom told me he has to call the warehouse to check their stock(?). I brought up that on their website it says they have 9 bottles minus three that my friend just purchased. He then told me if he could give me a call back in an hour. So I went ahead and bought the other six bottles online. Later I got an email from them stating the wines were sold out and they will cancel my order. What liers! Crush wine is known for doing this. I didnt believe it until I experienced it! Edit- After they told me that the wine was sold out, they increased the price of the wine from $48 to $60. Price increase when it is out of stock? really? sigh... read more

Never again. After buying a lot of wine, Aperol and other spirits at this place over the years, I'm done with Crush. The cause? Yesterday's disgusting experience with an obnoxious, snide, bald guy there. (I mention bald only to identify him - I'm bald too). Q: Do you have an inexpensive, nice Vino Verde at $10 or under? A: We have the same thing from Spain, although the grape is different. Price is $15. (Same thing? Different grape, different country.) Q. Do you have an inexpensive rose? A. (Shows rose that has no price marked.) Q. How much is it? A. $15 and change. Q. What is the actual price? A. $15 and change. Q. How much change? A. (goes to check at register, rolling eyes and laughing derisively.) So I put the bottles I had already selected on the counter and walked out, never to return. Evidently Crush now doesn't welcome people who want to shop below the store's inflated price points. How this place survives with so much competition nearby is amazing. Tip: Venerable Sherry-Lehman's is just a few blocks away at Park and 59. Courteous, professional service regardless of price. And yes they have plenty of nice wines in the $10 and under price range! read more

It is right near my office, it always looks so sleek and pleasing to the eye walking past, I LOVED what they showed in stock on their website.... Unfortunately the shop didn't live up to my expectations. I walked in and there was one other customer in the store. Three employees behind the counter, 2 or three more in an office in the back, and maybe another 2 walking the floor? There was one other customer. I wandered the small store and not one "can I help you?". I got a nod from the cashier walking in and that was it. I wandered, and looked through the whole stock in the front of the store. Then I walked to the back and was looking in the window of the room with the good stuff. There was a bottle of Dom Perignon 2004 Jeff Koons bottle. I stared at it for a few minutes as employees passed me by. No one asking if I wanted to go in, or if I needed any help. So I grabbed a bottle of Chardonnay - 2011 Copain "Tous Ensemble" - for $26. A little on the higher range for that wine, but the shop is on 57th St. Wine.Searcher has it ranging $24 - $28. I am checked out with a quick "how are you" and barely any acknowledgement to my existence. Receipt handed over for me to sign without even some eye contact or a smile, and there was a mumble that may or may not have been a thank you. Unfortunate. I always like to talk to the vintners I purchase from, and see what they recommend. Unfortunately not really the case here. Two stars is being generous. There are much better shops. read more

This place is so awesome. I am close to it now and hit it up every chance I can get there. Went tonight and had a salesman spend a lot of time discussing the whiskies, bourbons and Ryes. He was knowledgeable and steered me away from a higher priced Rye to one that he said was just as good and $25 less. Came home and cracked the bottle open and it was just like he said it would be. I really like to keep it classy. Which is why I am an active participant in important circles including myopenbar.com. I made a funny. Did you laugh? Good. Anyway myopenbar told me all about crush and how they have free daily wine tastings. So I called up all my roommates and a couple pals and we met at the doors for a little bit of a classy evening out. The wine selection is a bit scattered and overwhelming and unless you solicit information you won't get much ... especially if you look as classy and fabulous as me. The tasting was conducted in the back room. I was happy about this because Crush doesn't really advertise that they do these tastings and it seemed as though no one else in the store new what was going on back there. I don't recall what we had but they were pushing a big tasting that would be conducted later in the week of 30 different Rieslings. WOWIE WOW! 30! and all for free. A connoisseur's dream. While I was here I purchased an Argentinian Cabernet Malbec blend which I saved for a special occassion. Loved it. Spicy. Great place for a dense selection but I prefer the down home feeling of Appellation. read more

Chris Cottrell knows everything about anything and knows what he's talking about. i had the honor of getting champagne & bottles of wine// for my friend's bday dinner of 10 ppl. all the wines picked by Chris were amazing! the champage pick was perfect too! the best part was that i was in a hurry and there was no doddling around. this guy knew exactly what i wanted only after a few exchanged sentences. he was like, bam bam, walking from one place of the store to the next and without fuss, he got me all good to go. IMHO, best shop on the UES and maybe the whole city. No joke. The main floor is focused on under $50 wines (many under $25). If you are looking for the real deal, they have one of the largest selections in town in "The Cube". Price is no limit in here. They also feature a number of events for clients of different levels and many of the staff are very capable of sending you in the right direction given you tastes and price range. Also a good place (and one of the few to go to) for older Burg;s, Bord's, and elite Cali wines. Their main weaknesses are Australian wines, but they may have the strongest selection of German wines, to balance that off. read more

This wine store serves a purpose in the neighborhood, specializing in Burgundy and Austro-German Wines. They also have a good selection of California wines, particularly Pinot Noir. I found a Brewer-Clifton there, which is on the wine list at the Fat Duck, and I don't believe any other store in Manhattan carries it - so if you are looking for something unique, this might be your place. I see that Aaron B. though the price for Geyser Peak was high, but personally I would not be concerned about spending an extra 2 bucks for Geyser Peak - you may as well take the 3-buck-chuck from Trader Joes. On the other hand, look at the Caymus 96 Cab - it's $64 vs. $70 at Sherry-Lehmann (but S-L is still a great store, in my book.) The bottom line is that Crush has really good wine at reasonable prices. I have had mixed experiences with the employees. One guy was extremely helpful and didn't mind that I bought nothing (I came back later to purchase the wine he had suggested.) On another visit, however, I asked a salesman to suggest an Austrian Red for about $20. He pointed to his "absolute favorite" which was closer to $30. I bought it. It sucked. I worked with Anne on an order for three bottles of bourbon to ship across the country using 2nd day air from UPS. Very fast e-mail responses, and she got my order out the door ASAP. UPS failed to deliver the package on time, so I had to ask Anne to file a claim with UPS to get my 2nd day air shipping fee back. The day I finally received my package, Anne filed the claim with UPS and I was reimbursed the expedited shipping the next day. Very impressive customer service from Anne and the shipping department. I knew what I wanted to buy already, so I have no comments on how helpful they were in picking out the right bottle for the occasion. I have bookmarked Crush Wine & Spirits, and will check them first now when looking online for wine or alcohol. Great group of people who are super helpful. read more

I live in suburban New Jersey and, last December, my son gave me a gift card for their store, since he used to live in the area. I visited him often, so the choice was natural. He moved this summer and is no longer close to Crush. While preparing for Xmas this year, I found the gift card and telephoned the store to see if they could transfer it to another friend who lives close to their store. As I was chatting with one of their associates, I noticed in very tiny print, in the lower right hand corner of the card, that the card expires in one year. Yikes, it was one year to the day, my birthday. Now I have received my gift cards and never had one that expired like this, there is nothing perishable involved. The store associate said that a manager would call me back and discuss the issue. Well, I have not received a telephone call, and more than a week has past. I do not recommend this store, independent of the wine and spirit collection, but because of their attitude toward their customers. This is only one reason why New York City has a bad reputation. The store management is hoping that people either miss the fine print or forget the expiration date on the card (the very tiny font) and they can pocket the money. So beware, do not buy gift cards from this store, they are formulated to fool the customer. My gift card number was 1639, they can check their records. read more

Not only do they have a killer selection with their salespeople having input on what is carried(in my mind creating more helpful and knowledgeable salespeople.) in the store. They often have tastings with a distributor- all of which are very knowledgeable. I spoke with Mark and he was able to suggest wines and champagne that we're delicious and within our price point. i was told by a friend to visit crush wine and spirits as they carry it all in the booze dept and being i dont have time to go to my regular liquor shops in astoria i did just that. wow he was right as this place on 57th st off lexington ave has all the different booze you need or dont need. plenty of spacious room to browse around and all the bottles are neatly organized on the shelves , stands , etc. there is a room in the back for liquor tasting events but i dont think anything was happening tonight. i finally finish my browsing and ask the dude behind the counter for 2 bottles of wine , one red and one white and gladly both were available with the cost being semi reasonable for a manhattan location. notice good variety of champagnes with prices from fair to not fair at all but i always say, the more money you spend on a bottle of booze the more folks wont think you are a cheap bastard. i enjoyed my visit to cush wine and spirits especially finding the two bottles of wine i needed on short notice. read more

EVERY time I come in someone asks if I need help. I usually do. As a wine enthusiast and young aspiring somm I am always looking for something specific. A Brut Rose, a Riesling from Germany and North Fork or three different reds from Bordeaux. I come here because the selection is so big. Today I was asking about regions and subregions of France and focusing specifically on Loire and Alsace. He (handsome kind workers, whose name I can't remember) took me to the computer, talked me through pronunciations and explained what grapes come out of these regions. He them talked me through several wines on the wall and showed me two that would give me a good sense of the specific things I was looking for. I not only have had this good experience but many many other before. I wish I could give them 6 stars. They know wine. And they care about finding you what you want. read more

Couldn't find my Avion Espresso Tequila anywhere. ANYWHERE! Finally happened upon CRUSH and found it! (Paid for it by cc over the phone.)Ok, only 1 bottle, but now I had 100% more than I did before. And then...COVID hit. Did I mention that I live in Ephrata, PA in northern Lancaster County? Did I also mention that I hadn't yet made the 2.5 hour drive to pick up the tequila? The CRUSH staff assured me that it was no problem; they'd hold it for me. And they did...for 4 months give-or-take a few days. No place offers this level of customer service. I drove up...stood outside...called inside...and within 5 minutes was driving back home. I promised the staff I'd name our next kid CRUSH...or AVION or something honoring them. But, then I remembered that little V surgery I'd had and, well, you know - miracles are often hard to come by these days. So, with sincere homage to CRUSH and Albert Camus, these words can only ever begin to thank the incredible staff of CRUSH: "In the midst of COVID I learned there was in CRUSH an invincible summer." Small store but with a clean, open space (looks a lot bigger, and pricier, in pictures than real life). It's one of the few in Manhattan where I don't feel like I'm going to knock a bottle off the shelf if I don't keep my hands in my pockets. Perhaps the biggest selling point: very polite and unobtrusive staff. No old grumpy men here asking what you want, implicitly blocking you from just browsing. You'll likely find other stores have wider selections, but they have a decent pick of popular varietals (lots of merlots and rieslings but short on malbecs). I kind of wish they had more variety rather than just stacking 20 bottles of the same wine on the shelves. Most wines are generally $30 with several in the $15-$20 range. After my nightmarish fiasco at K&D Wines in the upper east side, I took a stroll over to CRUSH, a few blocks from where I work. The atmosphere is sophisticated, chic, and they have GREAT end of the season sales and selections. I got a catalog in the mail promoting a New Zealand "Sancerre" sauvignon blanc. Should be $25+ but this was going for $15.99. I hurried over to pick it up, only to have a friendly staff member tell me that it was all out. But he recommended HIS choice of New Zealand white, and I was going to go for it until I reached the register and the two staff members there heard of my disappointment that they were all out of the wine they were promoting yesterday. well, good thing I did because the girl said she was looking RIGHT AT ONE! and hurried over and grabbed it for me. Last one in the house until the end of the week. Mount Nelson Sauvignon Blanc 2007. Marlborough, New Zealand. The best wine I've had all year. Acidic, refreshing, with a bite! Lime and stone, with a cheery brightness to the end. And no, they don't have this one at K&D. Go CRUSH! I'm a fan! read more

I have my favorites but often when we want to stray to another region, we will get excellent thoughtful recommendations from the employees - they are all so knowledgeable, I just assume they're sommeliers (they're not ~ at least the ones I've asked). One guy was even reading a huge encyclopedic book on wine when we were there - because of his interest. Aside from the wine selection, they have great liquors as well. My husband loves mescal tequila and I received a fantastic detailed explanation of each of the bottles on the shelf. The bottle I bought turned out to be a real winner. Crush is up there with Flatiron Wine and Astor Wines as one of the best wine shops in the entire city. This is the place you go when you need to find a bottle for a BYOB birthday at Peking Duck House (a sick vintage of Spätlese from a strong producer, duh). This is the place you go to when you want minimalist, gorgeous glassware (Zalto) so you can pretend to be an adult when you have friends over and open a bottle (as an aside, damn you Aldo Sohm for tripling the popularity of these. Now we have to wait for Ryan Sutton to make some eager comment about them so they stop being cool with the tools again.). But this is also the place you go when you want some Savennières or Chablis but don't want to break the bank. For in spite of the fact that at the high end (grand cru Burgundy, cult Champagnes) Crush crushes it, they also thoughtfully curate at the $20 - $25 level. From Beaujolais to the eccentric Jura, Crush is also a wine shop where you can feel comfortable asking the staff for help or recommendations without feeling like 1) they don't actually know very much themselves or 2) that they know too much to translate for some plebian - aka you. I've come and simply asked for a Vouvray, no other context given, and was guided to a wonderful wine through thoughtful, genuine questions. I've also had a ten minute discussion about whether a particular Crémant d'Alsace would be more citrus or orchard fruit forward (Pinot Blanc blends are straight tricky) and it didn't feel forced, or pretentious, or even as absurd as it probably was from any objective perspective. So, expand your horizons here. Better yet, it's the holidays: expand the horizons of others. Have a friend who, mystifyingly, still finds it funny to scream "I am NOT drinking any fucking Merlot!" yet you feel obligated to remain friends with? Get them some Château Pétrus and let them put that in their pipe and smoke it. Bonus points: Their website is fantastic. The search options are sufficiently nerdy, and the landing page is surprisingly helpful, highlighting recent acquisitions, special sales, and generally interesting news in the world of wine. You don't have to be a cork-dork to like Crush, but don't be too surprised if you start to become one. read more

Crush is a great spot for all of your wine needs. The salespeople are very helpful, and for a small store, they have a surprisingly wide variety of wines & spirits. The wine tastings are fun (and funny!) and come highly recommended. The only drawback to Crush is that there are only 3 bottles of any wine displayed at one time, which can be a problem if you come at a busy time or you're looking to buy in bulk. It's usually not a problem to find what you're looking for, though. Crush is one of the best places to stop if you need to grab a good bottle of wine on your way home from work. read more

This is my FAVORITE wine shop in NY not only because it was highly recommended by our waitstaff at Per Se (if these guys recommend a wine, I trust ALL their judgements) but also because they have the best staff. At first I was intimidated by their "Can I help you?" because this shop is wall-to-wall with wine (beautifully illuminated by the way) and it's very overwhelming. But the staff, again, is great. I tell them what I like, my price point, and honest, they have never steered me wrong. They're a little pricier than if you were to buy the wine elsewhere but I am willing to be a frequent customer (and I am!) just because they know their product. Every staff member, I trust, has sampled the wine they carry and I've never had a problem with their recommendations. Stop by, and make your own decisions. And maybe you'll bump into me wandering around still in awe. read more

Here are the facts, you make your own decision. 1. Ordered a $5K special bottle of wine for delivery to CO on a Friday for delivery the next Tuesday, all for a special event on Wednesday. 2. Was told Monday that they mistakenly shipped FedEx Ground, but they would get the bottle back and reship for Wednesday delivery. 3. Tuesday, emailed them for tracking information on shipping, but got no response. Tuesday at 7:30pm was told by phone: *FedEx never returned the bottle...followed by 10 minutes of excuses about why this wasn't Crush's fault *They were told by FedEx they can't really ship wine anymore 10 days ago (but took my order anyway). *I really should be better at planning, why was I ordering something the day before? Well, I ordered it 4 days prior, and regardless, you told me this order posed no problems. *The next morning (Wed), they would call me to tell me if they had the wine back. 4. Unfortunately, this was all at night so finding alternatives was extremely difficult. But, I did arrange for a courier service to pick up the wine at Crush, take it to the airport and get it to me on time on Wednesday. 5. Crush never called me on Wednesday morning to let me know if FedEx had returned the wine,as promised. I had to let the courier go and lost my last option to receive the wine. 6. As days passed by, Crush couldn't tell me where the package was, or when it might arrive. So, basic tracking information is unobtainable in 2017? 7. Finally, a week late, I received the bottle of wine. Oh, but the wooden box for it was shipped to a totally different address for no reason. 8. I reached out twice to try and get return shipping information. Finally Crush replied saying they would send me a shipping label by email...2 days later nothing. After pestering them again, finally got it. 9. Returned the wine, and then had to pester them again to credit my card. Finally happened. 10. Don't buy a double magnum of 2009 Latour at Crush. If they have it in stock, its my returned bottle that spent a week bouncing around trucks in high temperatures....it's going to be garbage. If this is the customer service you want for high value wine purchases, you will like Crush. read more

great wine. fair prices. loved all the recommendations i've received. every time i move to a new neighborhood.. i need to find a new neighborhood wine shop. this was it. i love the layout of the store and how the wines are displayed - makes it really easy to find the wine i want. i'm usually asked if i need help but often times i do see the employees in the back office occupied by the computer. question is - why can't the cashiers walk around and help the customers when there's no one making a purchase? bizarre. the customers need more attention than your cash registers do. p.s. i never really browsed through the liquor but there seems to be a decent selection on the shelves in front of the cashiers. read more
