We decided to try a few beers at this new brewery today. They had five choices and we decided to try three. Auld Bru- a porter that I really enjoyed. I usually go for stouts, yet I liked this brew immensely. Kolsch- not for me. It has about 5% alcohol. Blood Red Eye- this is my second favorite. It is a red ale with maple syrup. Finally! I've sent my husband out to as my official taste tester to many of the new local breweries. This is the first one he told me I NEEDED to try. I'm not a fan of hoppy beer. In my opinion, pine trees belong in a forest, not a glass, and definitely not in my beer. We started with a flight and were not disappointed. There were no "at least they tried" or "good first attempt" comments. I'm picky, and I'd have been happy with a pint of anything we tried. This is GOOD BEER. No gimmicks or crazy experiments. These guys definitely put in the effort to create a good product and nice place to enjoy it. A flight of 5 tasters and 2 pints ran us $23.00. I'll definitely be going back! read more

I'm always a fan of new breweries. Especially those that just understand quality service. Crusaders is located in what is now known as the Bakersfield Brewery District. Heck ya! We have a "district" - Bakersfield is getting up there in the world! I came during an event after Meet the Brewer. It was last minute and we arrived towards last call. But it was nice to meet everyone and try some of their beers. I was super surprised at the massive area in the back. Don't let the small area up front discourage you. There's tons of room in the back. I only ordered one beer, the Absolution which is a Belgian Quadrupel aged in Tobin James Zin barrels w/ Murray Family Farms cherries. At over 10% ABV this packs a nice punch without being overwhelming. It had a wine-like characteristic to it which was nice. The cherries added a nice zip that kept the wine from being too hollow. Their beer is just not good. Each beer I tried there was lackluster. I hate to sound harsh, but when you open up a brewery right next to Lengthwise and Dionysus, you really need to be top notch, and they just aren't. Given the very close proximity to several insanely good breweries, I'm surprised they are actually still in business to be honest. This place reminds me of if my Bud-Light-drinking uncle attempted to start brewing beer. Pro tip: go to any of the other breweries in that same area, you'll enjoy them all tremendously better than this place. read more

Sadly, this is an anti-masker establishment. I was visiting my father and wanted to try some local brews. I saw their menu and talked with the guy on the phone. I was excited to try it! As soon as i walked in, there were people indoors drinking (kern county was in the purple tier at the time) and no one in the establishment including employees were wearing masks or social distancing. They even had a sign on the door saying they wont enforce or require masks. Very disappointing. I hope my message doesn't encourage other kern county anti-maskers to go to this place. read more

Definitely my favorite brewery in town. Staff is friendly and all of the Beers are outstanding. Beers are European style but the atmosphere inside screams Merica On my first visit I ordered a flight and liked every one of them. They serve a great IPA called Barbarian but used to serve a Honey IPA called Colonizer that was honestly the best beer I have ever had in Bakersfield. If you enjoy truly classic craft beer this is your home. They have games for you to play while you hang out and drink. They make the original beers of Europe with making them have a great flavor of modern age. Further they have good trucks regularly that come by and serve food or they have pretzels for each table. The kid who was behind the bar didn't seem like he even worked there. I sat at the bar and it took a solid 3-4 minutes to be greeted. There were 6 other guests in the building. Not great customer service. He then proceeded to get up off his bar stool which was behind the bar, take a bite of pizza, NOT WASH HIS HANDS, then pour my beer. Tucked away in the corner of an industrial park, Crusader Brewing is making its mark in Bakersfield. Good beer with a wide selection of styles, strengths, and ABVs, the products of this brewery are quite good. I'm partial to the relatively new Crusader's Covenant and Absolution - both are pleasant and drinkable. Much to my chagrin, the service is below par. With patrons (including me) sitting at the bar waiting to exchange money for beer, the barmaid thought it was much more important to find the one TV channel in 200 that was carrying the Duke vs UNC girlyball game, although no one in the bar seemed to be interested in a bunch of overgrown, bearded and tattooed sissies bounding around like children. To make matters worse, I was given the wrong credit card to close my tab. It's a good thing I checked before leaving. Clearly the short-term memory of the staff on duty that night needs attention. read more

My husband and I were in town over the weekend and visited several breweries, but this is the one we keep talking about. The tasting room a/c felt great on the hot day but the cold beer was even better! We tried a few styles we wouldn't normally choose (trying to broaden our tastes) and were surprised to really enjoy them! The owner/brewer was great to chat with while we were seated at the bar. He explained the beers and brewing process and answered all my questions, I learned a lot. They are doing some interesting things with their beer! Amazing Beers! No matter what type of beer you like there is something here for you. Including their hard sodas if beer is not your thing. The Bartender Ande was on top of everything, always helpful and willing to answer all questions we had. She took her time with each customer making them feel welcome and appreciated. This is a small but cozy micro brewery with five current brews and several more in the works. We tried all but one while my husband conversed with the other vets and retirees. I personally tried the Golden Cross Kolsch and the Illuminated West Coast IPA. My husband had the Jester House Special Bitter and the Blood Red Rye with Maple Syrup. I actually liked them all. All were delicious and very drinkable and smooth going down. They don't have food themselves but do have food trucks from time to time. None were there when we stopped by to check them out. The father of one of the owner brewmasters manned the bar. My husband, whose youngest son is also a brewmaster in Port Angeles, Washington enjoyed talking with him about their son's careers in craft beer. They are even listed as being dog friendly. So next time you want to bond with man's or woman's best friend, drop in for a cold one and the free salty snacks they served with some great spicy brown mustard. read more
