Good points: if you enrol as a student for a fiver you get to use the internet and facilities in the library for a year. Bad points: No air-conditioning in summer or heating in winter. sweltering.

The quality of faculty that I have interacted with has been very good, but I obviously cannot generalise that to all the faculty. Classrooms are large and spacious. Enough elevators, washrooms on alternate floors. A cute little cafeteria downstairs that serves good coffee. Will check out some pastries the next time I'm there. City lit is meant to focus on continuing education and they offer a huge range of vocational subjects too. I saw a lot of posters regarding counselling for jobs and courses, so they are concerned with skills that can be used to up your resume or make a job change. - massage, therapy, computers, languages etc But they also offer courses in drama, food, wine tasting and jewellery design. Specialisation is sometimes a liability when you cannot afford to run certain courses due to lack of specialist staff or lack of student uptake - this usually happends to students in their later years at the university. In thic case you can usually take courses at other University of London institutions such as kings College on the Strand or Goldsmiths to make sure you have enough modules. Language study is rigorous and comprehensive; this is one of the best places in the UK to study Arabic, Chinese or Japanese as well as a range of African languages. Most language students must take a compulsory year abroad organised by the university as part of their 4 year course.

If you're wanting to study fashion, be it design, business, make-up, styling or journalism, this is…read morecertainly the college to opt for. It is one of the most reputable, and many of the established designers and fashion experts have learnt their craft here. I studied two part time courses in both the John Princes Street and Davies Street colleges and absolutely loved them. The teachers know the industry inside out and their expertise comes from actively working in fashion so you can be assured that you are learning from the best. There is an amazingly addictive creative buzz as everyone is immensely enthusiastic about what they do and you truly learn the meaning of the phrase 'passion for fashion'! The facilities are great, including top range and current IT equipment and an extensive resource library at John Princes Street. The college also often holds industry led conferences and seminars. I also predict that the people who attend the London College of Fashion are the most colourful - you are sure to see an amazing selection of obscure (yet fashionable as hell) outfits and hair cuts!

I am studying my postgraduate course here at the moment and it is so brilliant. Apart from the…read morecourse and the teaching (both are fantastic) the school itself is brilliant. On the Princes street campus there is the best library I've ever come across, and they have a great selection of computers with loads of great software programs installed in both Princes and Davies street. The Hub in Davies st is the bar/cafe and does really cheap food and drink. I usually go for a bagel with cheese, chicken and pesto which costs £1.70, total bargain. Just outside the Hub is The Arts Gallery, University of the Arts London, 65 Davies Street, W1K 5DA. Here they have loads of different exhibitions of up and coming artists which is free for all UAL students.

My University is awesome, and that is the brutal truth and the important difference between you,…read morethe reader, and me, the student. You are blissfully unaware of what we get, here at QMUL. The student village is awesome, with rooms for over a thousand first years available. I live in the largest building of them all, 450 people all present and loving a bit of uni life. There is a convenience store just a one minute walk from my building, selling almost all of the groceries you could desire. There is a laundry room with about 16 washers and driers, and to sort your washing out (a once a week occurance) will only cost you £2.50. I strongly feel that when I move out of this place in my second year that I will be using this laundry room still! The student union, a five minute walk across campus, provides both a large and well furnished gym and a bar that turns into a club for certain nights of the week (Well, most nights of the week) so it's awesome. The academia of this university can't be doubted. An excellent school of knowledge, complete with a massive library that opens until midnight on weeknights makes the learning experience awesome. The lecturers are accessible and helpful in almost all cases and the labs and seminar rooms are top of the range. An excellent place to come.

Having recently graduated from Queen Mary I have, over the course of the last three years, had the…read moreopportunity to experience first hand the atmosphere, academic standard and social opportunity this insitution offers. Situated in the increasingly trendy area of Mile End, with great transport links to the city, students of this university have the opportunity to live within the last genuine working class area of central London before it is swallowed up in the unstoppable tide of gentrification. I love this area of the city; there is a buzz in the air everywhere you go, development is everywhere you look and down every street you will find an array of different cultures all contributing something unique to this cosmoplitan sprawl. Mile End and the surrounding areas offer their own range of shops, restaurants, pubs, bars, clubs, parks, markets, cinemas, galleries, theatres and much else besides. Some areas can be a little intimidating but I feel the media plays an overly-large part in stressing the dangers rather than the positives. Chances are, so long as you're sensible, you're not likely to run into much trouble. Queen Mary campus itself is located a stones throw away from Mile End and Stepney Green tube stations. During the last few years it has undergone a rather dramatic facelift with the completion of work on new buildings such as the curve, remodelling of the student union and the student village and continuing works on a new humanities building. These new features are demonstrative of the increasing popularity of this consistently improving university. Aside from the forementioned students union which houses Drapers Bar, Queen Mary offers several coffee/cafateria style bars and restaurants, laundry services, excellent library facilities, on campus accomodation (a rarity for London university's), sports facilities including a new state of the art gym, and several shops. Anything not available on campus can be found within a short walk. Socially there is a wealth of clubs and societies available for you to join from Hockey to Croquet, History to Football and Climbing. Most revolve around drinkin games of one sort or another and can be a great way to branch out, meet new people and secure that elusive criminal conviction. Just down the road one can find the uber-trendy areas of Brick Lane and Shoreditch and after a short walk to the tube, the rest of London's vibrant social scene is at your disposal.

BPP is famous for its law courses but I have more experience of it's professional qualifications in…read moremarketing, which are based on the syllabus set by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). There are 4 levels of CIM qualification; Introduction level, Certificate level, Professional Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma. I think that BPP only offer professional diploma and postgrad diploma. Most people who have some knowledge of business (i.e. have been working in an office environment for 1-2 years), and have experienced study at university should be able to join at Professional Diploma level. I haven't tried other providers as BPP's location in Holborn is convenient to me, as it is close to bus and tube links and a nice area. There do not seem to be that many providers of CIM courses in London that are larger professional qualifications providers (FTC Kaplan do not run CIM courses in London currently), and BPP's course books are offered at a number of CIM events as being good study guides for the syllabus. The professional diploma is split into 4 modules, and you can take as many of these at a time as you want. Courses run either two nights per week, 6-9pm, fortnightly, or one Saturday every fortnight 9-5pm, and start in September or January. Each module takes about 3 months to complete and you can choose either assignment or exam for your assessment which will be held in a CIM exam centre (usually Fulham town hall) The teaching was good, though perhaps not as coherent as other professional qualifications such as the ACA for accounting. The BPP textbooks are comprehensive but could be better laid out and structured to help you study in the short time you have. You are also given a bank of past paper questions to familiarise yourself with question styles and a small notebook of printed flashcard style revision notes which are a condensed version of the book. Mock exams are also included and as part of the couse you will also attempt 2 mock exams at home per module. The classes are very interactive and involve a number of discussions and are rarely boring. Attending the classes is a great way to meet other people from a wide variety of different businesses and is a learning opportunity in itself. I took the CIM Professional Diploma to try and improve my CV and give me practial skills for marketing that I hope to be able to use in my work in the future. I feel that I can achieve this with the course at BPP. My main criticisms would be the admin at BPP which is badly organised and slow when sending out student cards and going through enrollment procedures. Other than that my experience so far has generally been good and I will return to complete my professional diploma in January by taking a further two modules. Classrooms are modern and never cramped; teaching uses powerpoint presentations and group work in class. Overall this course is good value for money and a good option for people who want to improve their knowledge of marketing procedures to improve their general business knowledge.
