BPP is famous for its law courses but I have more experience of it's professional qualifications in…read moremarketing, which are based on the syllabus set by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). There are 4 levels of CIM qualification; Introduction level, Certificate level, Professional Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma. I think that BPP only offer professional diploma and postgrad diploma. Most people who have some knowledge of business (i.e. have been working in an office environment for 1-2 years), and have experienced study at university should be able to join at Professional Diploma level. I haven't tried other providers as BPP's location in Holborn is convenient to me, as it is close to bus and tube links and a nice area. There do not seem to be that many providers of CIM courses in London that are larger professional qualifications providers (FTC Kaplan do not run CIM courses in London currently), and BPP's course books are offered at a number of CIM events as being good study guides for the syllabus. The professional diploma is split into 4 modules, and you can take as many of these at a time as you want. Courses run either two nights per week, 6-9pm, fortnightly, or one Saturday every fortnight 9-5pm, and start in September or January. Each module takes about 3 months to complete and you can choose either assignment or exam for your assessment which will be held in a CIM exam centre (usually Fulham town hall) The teaching was good, though perhaps not as coherent as other professional qualifications such as the ACA for accounting. The BPP textbooks are comprehensive but could be better laid out and structured to help you study in the short time you have. You are also given a bank of past paper questions to familiarise yourself with question styles and a small notebook of printed flashcard style revision notes which are a condensed version of the book. Mock exams are also included and as part of the couse you will also attempt 2 mock exams at home per module. The classes are very interactive and involve a number of discussions and are rarely boring. Attending the classes is a great way to meet other people from a wide variety of different businesses and is a learning opportunity in itself. I took the CIM Professional Diploma to try and improve my CV and give me practial skills for marketing that I hope to be able to use in my work in the future. I feel that I can achieve this with the course at BPP. My main criticisms would be the admin at BPP which is badly organised and slow when sending out student cards and going through enrollment procedures. Other than that my experience so far has generally been good and I will return to complete my professional diploma in January by taking a further two modules. Classrooms are modern and never cramped; teaching uses powerpoint presentations and group work in class. Overall this course is good value for money and a good option for people who want to improve their knowledge of marketing procedures to improve their general business knowledge.

The place is nice in the kind weather, but seems like such a grey campus for being so close to several nice squares (especially Russell Square). The quad area outside of the main building is a nice place to dodge errant tennis balls being thrown around and take a seat on the green grass. Eat a sandwich if you want to. No one's pressuring you to not eat your sandwich wherever you want to eat it. You can eat your sandwich standing or sitting, no judgement here. Speaking of food, outside SOAS there is a vegetarian krishna food table that gives away lots of food for free every day. You can just stroll on up to it (or the que) and they give you a huge plate of food. Based on every single person telling me they didn't like it, though, I'm staying away from there. To some people, free is free so you might want to try it. The area around the aforementioned Russell Square is my favorite part of Birkbeck rather than the area around the main building. My classes are 3 hours long, so when there is a 20 minute break in the class, we all stroll out into the square and grab some grub at the Russell Square Cafe. It's incredibly peaceful. I like donuts. Birkbeck's main building has a cafe on the ground floor, but the prices aren't so good. So I'd recommend bringing food onto campus (Russell Squ cafe is also a bit pricey). There are many coffee shops leading up to the school. That's another thing, Birkbeck is in the center of London, easily accessible via underground by way of the Russell Square and Goodge Street tube stations. So if you're looking for a centrally located school, LOOK NO FURTHER. Stop looking. I take classes at both London Met and Birkbeck; and everything at Birkbeck is so much nicer. But that's to be expected. #TeamBirkbeck

The course held here range from tango to romantic languages and pottery. They have some quite high-tech looking computer labs for design classes and art studios stuffed with supplies. In the grand scheme of things the classes are cheap - from £7.00 a week for ongoing classes that dont require any equipment. Good points: if you enrol as a student for a fiver you get to use the internet and facilities in the library for a year. Bad points: No air-conditioning in summer or heating in winter. sweltering.

There's a cafe upstairs, where you can grab probably the cheapest, quite tasty cappuccino in Camden! The meals in the cafe often consist of a selection of sandwiches (pannis, wraps etc.), jacket potatoes with a choice of toppings (beans, cheese, tuna etc.), chicken and pasta dishes, cous cous and salads. I've been meaning to write this review since my very first week at Able Skills, and feel a bit…read moreguilty about not doing it sooner, as I have always been very pleased with the high calibre of training and professionalism of all at Able Skills throughout. I embarked on the 'Gold Card' electrical package including the important 2330 and 2356 qualifications just before it became a Diploma. I finished my 2356 NVQ in October, though that was down to me not doing it sooner. Clive my NVQ Assessor processed it very quickly as soon as I handed it in, though he had been checking and guiding my collection of evidence, photos and written work through out. Right from the very start I knew I'd made the right choice for me of where and how to study - classroom based, and especially in terms of the advice they gave me on qualification pathway. When I was looking around about getting qualified as a spark there are a lot of companies out there selling different packages, its easy to get confused and pay a lot of money for a package of just the smaller qualifications by distance learning thinking you have got the same as being fully qualified and not getting good value for money either. The excellent good value clean self catering accommodation that Able Skills provides too also helped me choose them. The way the course was structured also meant I was able to keep working enough shifts to earn a reasonable living. I had the same teacher through all (except for one week) of my level 2 and 3 and 17th Ed. , building regs quals etc. There was a lot of snow over the winter I did my training, but my teacher was always there, and Able skills was always open what ever the weather. All the teachers and instructors (Including Steve the technician) were always friendly and enthusiastic, often giving their own time at break times, even if they weren't my actual teacher at the time, whether it to be explain some theory or go through something practical in the 'bays' downstairs. Even one of the plumbing teachers gave me some great advice about a problem I had with my boiler! Although I had done some data cabling work about 10 years prior, the electrical training was a career change for me from nursing/care work. Though the theory and practical was so well taught to such a high standard that I personally was able to learn enough to start doing some minor installation work (including new circuits) by my self as I was finishing off level 2. Though I did make sure I took out my own insurance and buy a calibrated multifunction tester so I could test my work and could then issue proper test certificates. We were taught to do things properly and be cautious throughout. We were also taught good theory to enable us to apply it and understand our installation work. I did my 2391 Inspection and Testing quite soon after I finished level 3. I was going to wait a while, but due to the fact that a lot of the regulations and theory (and safe procedures) were fresh in my mind (and we had a very good teacher) this helped me pass the difficult theory exam first time. I think they have now changed the 2391 qualification into two parts to make it easier. I guess what I am trying to say is that for me it was well worth doing the testing and inspecting qualification, it has certainly helped keep me employed in interesting work and with more responsibility and even when I have worked on large projects I've been the one doing the testing and inspection / commissioning above others that have many more years experience, but not a 'test and inspect' qualification. So far I have really enjoyed my work, for me it has all been sub contracting, but usually direct rather than through an agency, it just seems to have turned out his way and this has also given me the opportunity to squeeze in some of my own work (this is when I have used what I have learnt in training the most) and I haven't been out of work yet. On whole I have always got on well and had a (sensible) laugh with all the people I have worked with, and always made sure I learnt from / picked up a little knowledge from everyone, be they another sparky, supervisor, BMS engineer, contracts manager, designer/consultant or company director. So far I've worked on retail shops (small and very large stores),major airports, a Ministry of Defence project, a new 'recycling' power station, and done some local Council House rewires ('house bashing') too, making some good friendships along the way. I guess though the main reason I wanted to write this review though was after my initial experience of going through the minefield of available courses and training providers, and hard sell of unsuitable expensive options (one dodgy company even sent someone round my house!)... ... is to choose your course(s) and training provider carefully. I'm glad I did! PS I forgot to mention I passed my AM2 at Dartford too!
