The maple walnut fudge was the best we've ever tasted. The maple flavor is fantastic and the consistency of the fudge was spot on. Unfortunately we probably won't go back because it's 25 miles of dirt road and we ended up with two flat tires, one about 5 miles coming down from the town and the other on I-17. The man that stopped to help us change the tire said he had 3 flat tires on his truck over 18 months and his wife had one. Be aware the rocks are sharp. read more

I love the General Store!! If you haven't already heard, They have the "best" fudge for 50 miles!!!! Always stop inside for some fudge, can't go wrong!! I had the great pleasure of finally getting to stop in at the general store after a Jeep run on Crown King. My husband has been talking up this store and the amazing fudge and souvenirs they offer for years. This store is literally a 1 stop shop. They sell souvenirs and fudge but also food items, gas, drinks and it is the local post office. The place is small, but everyone there is so friendly and welcoming. The fudge they offer is amazing. I have never seen so many different options for fudge before. My family obviously got 4 different flavors since there are 4 of us. The Crown King Gold (white chocolate and caramel), Lemon meringue, Chocolate Walnut Rum, and Peanut-butter chocolate are the 4 flavors that made it home with us. They were all great, caution on the Rum one - you can definitely taste the rum so we opted to not let our kiddos taste that one, but it was so good. If you go to Crown King you should definitely stop in. read more

My husband and 12 year old son were in the store today and my son was playing with the magnetic rocks picking some out to buy as a souvenir when the older woman working there says "don't stick them together to see how many you can stack, if you drop them on my glass counter I'll break your arms." Then she proceeded to complain about someone leaving the door open too long. She has a horrible attitude, was rude and out of line. read more

I took a day trip to enjoy the high country in Crown King. Had a great hamburger and beer at the saloon and then walked down the street to the General Store to get some of their super fudge. When I walked in the man at the counter was visiting with a person who (appeared to be a local). I waited at the counter for service for quite a while ... the man at the counter kept talking to his friend ... did not look at me or acknowledge me. I was about to leave when he came over and asked what I wanted. I noticed his bill cap and his T-shirt ... loaded with gross words and rude political language which set me back. Very unprofessional attire and he seemed totally uninterested in providing customer service. He lost the sale ... I left disgusted at the 'in-your-face' politics he was forcing onto me. All I wanted was customer service to make me feel welcome and some fudge. I did not get the former and left without the latter. If the maker of the fudge sees this ... maybe he or she will understand why their sales are poor. read more

For years I looked forward to going to Crown King several times a year to enjoy the high altitude, the forest, and scenery ... and to enjoy the Saloon (great hamburgers) and the General Store for their excellent fudge.  Yesterday I arrived in Crown King about 10:00 AM ... unfortunately the Saloon was not open yet so I was not able to eat.  But the General Store was open.  I went in, the attendant was an older man behind the counter staring at his iPad.  He did not look up or even greet me in any way.  I walked around looking at the merchandise and then stood at the counter looking at the fudge (my main goal there).  I stood there for at least a minute before he turned around from his stool and iPad and stood at the counter ... still not a word or greeting from him.  I was not welcome.  I then asked if the fudge was made there locally, he said 'yes' (his first word to me or acknowledgement that I existed).  I again looked at the fudge in the counter.  Still thinking I may sample one or two and make a purchase ... I looked up at him.  I then noticed the words on his bill cap as he was staring at me ... it said "I can shit a better president".  Good thing I did not have grandchildren with me to see his vulgarity.  I said 'interesting hat' and walked out without buying anything. He lost a sale. I was left with a feeling they may no longer want 'outsiders' visiting. He certainly was wearing his right wing fascist pro-autocracy political beliefs on this sleeve.  Is Crown King turning into a cult-like community?  Should I feel safe going there again?  I am very disappointed ... Crown King is such such a beautiful area I wanted to feel good about spending my day and enjoying without experiencing the 'in-your-face and you-are-not-welcome tribalism and vulgarity'.  Nevertheless I enjoyed the countryside and would not let that pervert ruin it for me (not the forest's fault he is breathing its oxygen). read more

One of the oldest general stores in Arizona, it was founded in 1904 and still has that rustic feel. When you walk to the back, you see the window where residents go to pick up their mail. You just don't find that kind of thing anymore! Pretty cool. The store is definitely built for tourists, and boasts t-shirts, mugs, and bumper stickers that all have the Crown King name all over them. But there is also an area for fresh food, pantry items, beer and fresh fudge. Fudge! It is famous and they ship anywhere! The ladies working there are always super nice as well. read more

The Crown King Store has been around for a long time... 110 years to be exact! I have been visiting Crown King since I was a child and my family built a cabin in 1990. It is a great escape from the heat and busy city. I am not a big fan of the new renovations at the store. It seems a bit touristy with the sandwich and ice cream shop and all the t-shirts. But, they are catering to the large clientele of motorcyclists and first timers. The fudge is amazing, give it a try! read more

What a wonderfully, friendly place to stop. We drove 3 hours just to try the fudge that we heard was the best ever. We weren't let down. OMG!! The raspberry fudge simply melted in my mouth. The chocolate mint puts all others to complete shame. Then there's the vanilla praline---- HEAVEN! The taste trials they give you are so big... Just like the smiles of the ladies working.
