However I was wrong in my miscast aspersions. Sorry friend. This place is a secret that needs to be let out! The Junction Hotel Newport has been reimaged in a major way. The venue now sports a micro beer hall and a separate wine room, both featuring gourmet grazing plates that will leave your taste buds satisfied and wallet full :-). As for the beer hall, there is a lot to distinguish this place from other venues that wear the "indie" beer badge of honour. I like the beer tasting paddle for example. Choose any four beers to sample and have them placed on a wooden paddle for your drinking convenience. $12 is all this will set you back. There is much boutique beer choice here too, from Beechworth to the Mornington Peninsula and far abroad. After food? Well, it is delish Trish! While the mains look great, I tried ordering my way through the smaller dishes, tapas style. Every morsel made for great conversation and admiration. Try the hand cut chips served out of a paper bag, or the grilled Kransky with pickled red cabagge, Polish style. Ribs, deep fried chickpeas etc, etc. Serving sizes are ample. The crowd (until word gets out ;-) ) is the local friendly crew. But be warned, every table was full. Worth a visit and, if your not local, a premeditated excursion! I will be back, the adjacent wine room is next on the list.

That was the "Seinfeld" type of conversation at the dinner table. The answer is they serve it UNDER the cheese so, you would have to say the Avocado is (don't want to say not fresh) The porterhouse steak was nice, cooked medium rare but had a bit of gristle on the sides. I didn't get served a lot of veggies either. Overall, the dish was ok. The staff were great and accommodating. There's not much they DONT have behind the bar for the non-drinker as well. (And the drinker too) Overall, we enjoyed the place and we will come back as its about our 5th time here. Part of the Entertainment book as well.

The old post office building has been renovated into a modern version of its former self. It's interior is dimly lit with high tables and stools scattered throughout the beautiful brick building. Post Office is a nice up-market bar located very close to Richmond station, they have an extensive list of wines available both by the glass and by the bottle, not to mention some very tasty cocktails if your after something sweet. With the Corner Hotel across the road, the Great Britain around the corner and the London a short walk away, I tend to pass the Post Office by. That said, I have stopped in for a few as part of a small Swan Street crawl, and found it to be a nice place for a quiet drink in cosy surrounds. It's actually a stone's throw from the river and there's a great park just down the end of the street -- though I dare say said construction zone will have ruined that. The pub is a cracker of a building, all green and dilapidated and grimy looking. Inside is a warren of little rooms and spots to rest your weary legs. There's an ace garden area out the back. All the furniture, and the decor in general, is falling apart at the seams and at times I wonder whether the pub may be on its last legs. I popped down for lunch the other day to find it closed in the middle of the arvo, which sent a shock wave through my body. It is the kind of place that will open, or not, depending on extraneous circumstances. The food here is standard pub fodder, the beer is cod and the staff are friendly as hell. But it's the character and one-of-a-kind-ness of this place that keeps me interested. There are fewer and fewer of these un-renovated old girls in Melbourne and very few in this part of town. It's got a long history... I'd be sad to see it go.

I have had the Porterhouse 350gm with fresh garden salad, chips and mushroom sauce twice. I do ask for the porterhouse steak to be well done and it has been tender to cut through on both occasions. When you ask for well done and the steak comes out juicy with no blood, you know they have a great chief! The taste has been consistently nice and it has yet to disappoint. The salad could have had more dressing, but doesn't affected the overall quality of the meal. The portion is a good size, however if you're a big eater than you still might have room left for a small snack, maybe order another side? The environment is what you would expect from a bar and bistro venue, however, it's nicer than expected. It does get busy during lunchtime, so if you don't want to line up, I suggest coming in after 1-2 PM. The service is relatively fast and the staff are friendly. You can help yourself to a glass of cold water whenever you like. I will be coming here often as there's so much more I would like to try on the menu.

It lacks atmosphere slightly as they are trying for a pub/bistro feel but kind of get stuck in the middle. Not for the cheapstakes though as cocktails start at 20 and beers and wines are quite pricey. The outdoor area with its super warm heaters is much warmer than the frigid interior. I couldn't part with my puffy jacket despite being seated inside. The seating area is separated from the bar area by the bar. The kitchen enclosed in glass is visible with the chef and staff busy making exquisite dishes. The hipster/kooky waitstaff are quite eccentric. We booked online via dimmi for 6.30pm on a Friday evening and received the early bird special - a drink each (choose from a pinot grigio, chardonnay, shiraz, beer or pinot noir or soft drinks) for free. The pinot grigio though recommended by our bubbly uber friendly Irish waitress was like the generic pub house wine! Between the two of us, we got the chesnut gnocchi (recommended by our friendly waitress), the barramundi and the lamb rump. We started off with some complimentary sourdough bread which arrived warm (what a pleasant surprise) and the most delicious honey butter (OMG WE HAD TO HAVE MORE AND MORE). It has the consistency of mousse and glides easily onto the bread and omg it melted as soon as it touched the bread. My friend and I just gobbled it up and though I don't even like butter with vegemite being my preferred spread, we asked for more bread. The butter is sprinkled with black salt - OMG yes heaven in my mouth. The chestnut gnocchi is infused with creamy chestnut on a bed of cauliflower mousse served with purple cauliflower which is said to have the consistency of cous cous as described by the waitstaff. I'm not sure about tasting cous cous but yes it was the most delicious gnocchi I had ever had. Sweet yet slightly savoury. The lamb rump arrived with a fermented yet sweet tasting baby carrots. The lamb was quite tough as it was slightly pink. The japanese fermented flavour went so well with the lamb. I couldn't put my fork down and chatted with the morsels in my mouth (how rude of me). Though I had room for dessert, my wallet said NO. The nitro gelato spectacle with smoke and sparks was definitely a delight to look at. I kept saying to my dining companion that Morris Jones is definitely heaps better than Dinner by Heston. Each dish was described to us when presented to our table. Each dish was unique with an infusion of flavours. The high ceilings, the interesting art (boobs on one wall, butterflies on the opposite wall - B&B), the eccentrically dressed waitstaff, and the quirky menu lead to an amazing experience. What I did find funny was that when I first presented myself to the restaurant I was asked what I wanted even though I gave them my name and my booking details. The man behind the counter was like "so what do you want?" and I said "TO BE SEATED?! maybe!" plenty of free parking on chapel street after 6pm or 3P parking near Thomas St. Can't wait to go back and try some more. :)

Online we found the Sip and Sushi offer for $65 per head which presented bottomless drinks and sushi. Upon arrival we were greatly deceived. The waitress almost flat-out refused to serve us despite taking a $60 online booking fee ($30pp), claiming this offer doesn't exist anymore despite being present on their website and all over restaurant apps, websites and Tik Tok's. They "catered to us" by offering us the "Sip & Saviche" package assuring us a similar experience. We were treated to 4 small appetiser plates consisting of; 4x Goyza dumplings, 2x bread crumbed crochets, 150g crabbed fish and one fish fillet with a pancake. Granted we did enjoy the bottomless drink experience (with slow service), ultimately the combined price was $165 as opposed to $130, furthermore we were cutoff drinks at an 100mins as opposed to 120mins. We ended up getting more food as we left hungry. Overpriced and underfed...
