Great teachers. Glad I am learning dance technique not just steps. The classes are fun and a partner is not needed. Dance partners rotate.

The Tiny Dancers Team has been wonderful, professional, and accommodating - a true bright light in a hard year. It's a lovely and clean space and I can't say enough good things about Jenna, Donna, & Emilia. My daughter loves Tiny Dancers!

Our…read moredaughter - who is a love and so, so very shy - has really come out of her shell over the last few weeks of Tiny Dancers virtual ballet classes and camps. Having these classes and camps to look forward to has been a joy for her and for us, and the studio has added a lot of fun to an otherwise housebound summer. I should add that for us, the excitement that the Tiny Dancers instructors create is about so much more than dance (though we LOVE dance). My daughter will be taking kindergarten virtually this fall - a decision that tears us apart, but that is necessary for our family. Through Tiny Dancers, our daughter has become much more comfortable with online learning - and for us, that makes all the difference. Before we started our Tiny Dancers classes, we were apprehensive about "online kindergarten" - now we feel much more certain that no matter how it goes, she'll be much more comfortable with the format than she would have been otherwise.

Here are the reasons why Born 2 Dance is absolutely amazing:…read more1) Low commitment: Life happens, drop in classes means that you don't have to feel guilty about losing money when you cannot attend a class. 2) Gorgeous studio space: The whole studio is efficiently run with large, modern, and clean practice areas with all of the bells and whistles 3) Expansive options: This is not your average ballet/tap/jazz studio. Born 2 Dance offers extensive classes and workshops for both adults, teens, and children in styles that include K-pop, hip hop, salsa, bachata, sensual dancing, belly dancing, pom, acro, and more! 4) Event space: We were initially invited to Born 2 Dance for a toddler birthday party and were blown away by the beautiful and spacious party room with attached play area. Everything was really well thought out and seamless and the party package even included a toddler dance class! 5) Proximity to a coffee shop: Simply Social is within walking distance which means sitting in a waiting room while my child dances is a lot more enjoyable

The check-in person was super welcoming and told me about some of the other dance formats offered there. This dance studio caters to both children and adults. So you will see kids running around, which is ok, but I am not really used to. The class started on time. The instructor had great energy and encouraged us to have fun and do things our own style. I haven't been dancing in a while, so I knew it would be a good challenge for me. I really had a lot of fun. My only surprise is that the classes are only 60 mins. I think they ought to be 70 minutes to include a proper 5 min warm-up and 5-minute cool-down. There wasn't a lot of warming up in the beginning of this particular class. I've taken adult dance classes for years and I am used to something that include some warm-up movements to get the rotating joints going, like neck rolls, shoulder rolls, and hip and lower back movements. The class did include a relaxing cool down with stretching for the lower body and upper body. I plan to take more Hip-Hop style classes. They offer Cardio Hip-Hop, Beginner Hip-Hip and more advanced levels, Sensual Dance, Twerk, Ballet, Shuffle, Street Jazz and a lot more. I plan to try about 5 more formats and sign-up for one class for the summer session. I highly recommend this place!

The teachers and office manager know all of us by name; the teachers take time to get to know their students (what makes them click and inspires them) and the office manager takes time to get to know the parents/caregivers, etc. and makes them feel welcome! During the COVID shutdown, the studio amazingly pivoted to virtual instruction very quickly. We were taking classes online before the schools or other activities were able to make the switch. As restrictions loosened, the studio welcomed in person dancers in a super safe manner and offered virtual instruction for those not comfortable with in person classes. Both were very well done. When school continued to be virtual, the studio offered a scholars program which allowed students to do their school work in the studio and take dance classes during their breaks. It was a social godsend to provide a pod like environment for our kids who craved social interaction, and exercise during virtual school (all done in a safe manner)! I was always impressed with the care the studio took to address the concerns of the various families so that everyone felt comfortable! The dance studio offers a variety of classes for beginners to serious, competitive dancers. I'd like to highlight their unique teen dance program which allows teenagers who are beginning dancers to comfortably take classes with other students their age. You're never too old to start dancing! The dance studio is located in downtown McLean and therefore conveniently located for parents/caregivers who can run meaningful errands nearby while their dancers are in class. But, the studio also has a lovely waiting area if you want to watch the classes on TV. Overall, I highly recommend JSDA's dance studio!

The dance room doors do not have windows and there is a locked private office which does not have a window in the door (it was stated that the office belongs to the owner, a man). There is also a teachers lounge which is locked. This is concerning because young children are there and private rooms create a safety issue. Most classes are in the evening and the children enter the building through a back door which faces a dark parking lot. There is a small light on the back of the building which was not working and there are no lights in the parking lot. Studios in the area charge less and offer more.

I've been taking adult open classes here for about a year and find that most evening and weekend classes tend to be crowded, so try a weekday daytime class if you can. There's street parking on Wisconsin Ave and side streets or discounted parking in the Giant Foods garage (remember to get your parking validation from the receptionist). While the faculty each have their own styles, all the ones I've taken from are top-notch instructors who were former (or are currently) professional ballet company dancers. I think I've finally figured out the five levels for adult classes, which are not as they're labeled, IMO: - Beginning 1. For dancers in their first couple years of ballet study, or who are rehabbing after not dancing for 1+ years. The teacher will explain ballet terminology. - Beginning 2. Not actually for beginners. Full barre and center combinations. - Advanced beginning. If tombe-pas de bourree-glissade-saut de chat is in your muscle memory. - Intermediate I. Dancers are doing double-plus pirouettes. Petite allegro can have jumps with beats. Combos are more intricate, challenging... and FUN! - Intermediate II. You'll see some dancers en pointe, and pros occasionally drop in. The class moves fast, where the teacher doesn't even have to fully demonstrate the combo yet everyone knows what they're doing. Fouette turns. If you're on the fence about which level to attend, I recommend trying the safer/lower level first, then moving up as you become comfortable. Overall, TWSB is a wonderful place to take ballet class in the DMV area!
