My tragus piercing fell out over the weekend and I was really worried it was going to close up. A lot of the piercing shops in Charlotte are booked out weeks even for a simple earring change and won't answer the phone!! I was randomly close by Crown and ran in to see if they could change my earring and they were SO nice. They got me in right away and the friendly, funny guy (owner maybe?) replaced my tragus earring and also let me know that my conch piercing was made of copper and not great for me for several reasons and he changed that out for me also! I haven't gotten a new piercing in forever but I will be back for one ASAP because I loved Crown and the piercer so much!!! read more

They don't stand behind their work. They owners daughter nice and does ok pierces. I went there with my mother both of us got nose piercings... The experience was nice... my mothers come out in the middle of night. So we went back for her to get a new earring.. and I went ahead and get my dermal top replaced. The dermal piercing came out within 3 to 4 days. I called to see if I can come back and get it replaced and the owner wanted to recharge me full price when I had my demand for two years and never came out so apparently you didn't do it correctly so you don't stand behind your work that's kind of sad cause I plan on getting tattoos and other piercings. read more

I went to this place Tuesday and they were great at getting me in fast for a nose piercing. I had a bad nose piercing done at a local retailer, and of course they messed it up with the equipment they used (my fault). My nose piercing already don't even have that pinch feeling anymore after only a few days. I can barely even feel it, so the after service comfort was spectacular. The pricing was less than what I paid elsewhere (for the same service requested). I will be going back again for my other nose soon. Guy is Really heavy handed, tattoos just scabs up. The Ink doesn't stay not worth the time or money, he also said he makes a lot of money just taking people in, so he doesn't care for the quality because my tattoos are messed up now! Before you read further, please note that I visited this location for a new bellybutton ring. Not a wide selection of belly button rings. As far as tattoos, I don't have one (yet), but am currently weighing that decision. This location was featured in Charlotte's edition of Creative Loafing in an article titled "Charlotte Ink." As far as bellybutton rings go, I am unable to rate them any higher than 2. However, I plan to make this shop my first visit if/when I get my tattoo, and will update my review then. The folks were really nice, and appear to have a huge selection of artwork to choose from. Tips: - Parking leaves much to be desired. I came here abt two years ago to get my fix of ink. (they are addictive) Well, I drew my "Tat" out so I figured how hard could it be to copy and paste right... RIGHTTTTT!!!! well after Mr. What-Ever-The-Hell-His-Name is finished smoking (why do they have to smoke before work?) and started on my tat... when I looked at the clock go round and round and round (damn near 3 hrs) for a tat that was maybe 3inch by 3inch. NOTE... MY TATTOO was a Ying/Yang, with the two lil circles representing 2 clocks in the inside. My wife and I first tattoo out here in North Carolina; so we decided to go to a local spot right off South Boulevard. The artist Derrick was extremely entertaining, funny and a great conversationalist. He definitely made our visit and tattoo experience a great one to remember since this was our first one out here in NC. There is parking behind the building so walking to the door shouldn't be a problem..... Derrick is a very good artist that sketches out all his tats which means they all look great and unique. The atmosphere in this shop was very chaotic, while Derrick was giving a tattoo he was consistently taking breaks to sell tattoo supplies as well as tend to other clients getting piercings. He made uncomfortable and inappropriate (even sexual) jokes. I've had two separate experiences at this shop where double piercings were done asymmetrical and done at odd angles. He was so preoccupied with other tasks in the shop that he didn't even check for ID until after the piercing was done on my last occasion at the shop. I would not recommend going to this shop, the shop owner's eyesight seems to be deteriorating. He was wearing two pairs of glasses and still somehow pierced me and another person wrong. read more

My husband and I really like this tattoo shop. Derek was our tattoo artist. He had me convinced this was where I would want to get a tattoo because he sketches all his work. All my tattoos are unique and have always been sketched from an artist off the top of their head. I prefer to have a tattoo that nobody else will have (it might be similar but never my exact tattoo, unlike people who chooses a tattoo from the wall or the set of pics in other shops). I got my nose pierced here, the woman who did my piercing must have been new to everything. When she pierced it I started bleeding which is fine but my blood was dripping everywhere and she had no paper towels readily available. Then my friend got a snakebite piercing by the same woman, and they came out lopsided. Needless to say I won't be going back. My friend and I went in for a tattoo and some dermals respectively, no reservations, and everyone was super accommodating and pretty hilarious. The woman artist did my ankle tattoo and it came out awesome. Very clean lines and basically painless. All three tattooists were in the same room working and we all chit chatted and talked film while getting tatted. I was allowed in the room with my friend while she was getting pierced and the artist was professional, clean, and great at what he does. Definitely making Crown my go-to tat shop in Chatlotte. I have been going to Crown Studios for over ten years for both ink and piercing, and I will stand by the work of its owner, Derek, 101%. He is creative, realistic, skilled, honest, and reasonably priced. I have read the other reviews, and I am pretty sure one or more are courtesy of his psychotic ex-wife and/or her accomplices in outright libel. There are no sex offenders (like it isn't a click away to check this out, moron), there is no drug use (people under the influence are not allowed in the building at all), and there are no gangsters. The fact that Crown has a devoted African American clientele should be a feather in its cap, and whoever wrote it is a hangout for gangsters is either an idiot, a racist, or both...I see the reviewer has since removed that bit of stupidity, but everyone should feel welcome there. I also see reviews of parking, studio size, etc...who gives a flying frack? This isn't a day spa, people. You come here to get quality bod mods, not bask in the ambiance. I also recommend people check out Yahoo reviews, which are far more thorough and lengthy. In any case, this is the place to go! read more

OK. Call it luck or whatever you want but I couldnt be happier with my tattoo. Had another local artist do some work and just was not happy after leaving. Waited for the tattoo to heal properly. I called about if the shop ran specials on/participated in doing Friday the 13th tattoos, and instead of scoffing and getting an attitude like most of the shops I'd called, Derreck (the shop manager) simply asked what the promo was and (POLITELY) told me their shop did not. About an hour later I called back and made an appointment with Derreck for a regular tattoo, even though that wasn't my original plan. I was so impressed by the politeness and GREAT attitude, over the phone where he honestly had no 'motive' to be so courteous. A friendly, great attitude is an unfortunately RARE find in the world of tattoo shops. I go to another shop in town but had recently started "shopping" after finally being fed up with catching rude attitudes and having to explain what I was after OVER and over again instead of just doing what I was wanting in the first place. The tattoo is going on MY body forever, if I'm not asking for your artistic tweaks and input, then either do what I ask or politely decline, DON'T waste my time redoing and redoing and REFUSING to do what I ask. It's incredibly frustrating and honestly really exhausting, and mind you, I've gone to this other shop since 2008, and even though I've spent $1000s there and a ridiculous about of time with MULTIPLE artists, all but ONE of the artists have horrid "listening ears" and even worse attitudes. (And, go figure, the one great guy there is leaving...) So I will most definitely be returning to Derreck and Crown Tattoos, the work he did was FANTASTIC and JUST what I was after. He was very professional, has over 20 years of experience and had an absolutely stellar work ethic, He even touched up a few of the other tattoos that I had been neglecting to go back to my other shop to do.
