Customer service extraordinary!! It's hard to find daith earrings in Charlotte. I replaced mine one day, the next morning it was gone. So much for doing it myself Walked in and the owner was busy and short handed. He just handed me a clean new one and apologized for keeping me waiting and thanks for stopping by. I will be back when I want another piercing. Nice place! read more

Crown Custom Tattoo Studio - Tattoo Near Me - Charlotte, North Carolina

The owner is rude, unprofessional, and dingy. I went in for their $10 tattoo special knowing the tattoo i wanted would be a little more. I waited from 10:45 am to 3 pm to then be tattooed. I proceed to go through the worst tattooing experience and tattoo i have. For reference I HAVE 13+. The owner proceeds to make me sit in his chair for an extra 20 minutes after asking for him to take a break or to finish it up on another date as the pain was horrible. He continues to tattoo me after seeing i was sweating and flinching at the pain and after i said to stop. Just to "finish" the tattoo because "he wanted to". And whatever wasn't able to get a great look at my tattoo as i felt i was already disrespected and knew i didn't want to come back after. And once I got home I decided to take a peak at what he gave me. And let me tell you it's awful. The lines are so curvy and half assed it's insane. He proceeds to tell me later in a phone call it's because "he wasn't done shading" I have multiple other just linework tattoos and i've never seen or have lines this terrible. I call to ask for a refund and thankfully was given one but the attitude that came from me being disappointed what i'm permanently left with was actually embarrassing and outrageous. Please don't get a tattoo from here. Love his apprentice but the old guy needs to really sit back and care about what his canvas is saying and wanting rather than trying to seem impressive. But yes thank you for giving me my first tattoo at 21 i have to eventually soon get redone because of how terrible it is read more

Derrick is amazing he works super fast and did my tattoo amazing I love it and will be back ! Love his playlist

They don't stand behind their work. They owners daughter nice and does ok pierces. I went there with my mother both of us got nose piercings... The experience was nice... my mothers come out in the middle of night. So we went back for her to get a new earring.. and I went ahead and get my dermal top replaced. The dermal piercing came out within 3 to 4 days. I called to see if I can come back and get it replaced and the owner wanted to recharge me full price when I had my demand for two years and never came out so apparently you didn't do it correctly so you don't stand behind your work that's kind of sad cause I plan on getting tattoos and other piercings. read more

So many studios told me "we don't do micro tattoos" -- one even asked me to sign a release basically saying that it wouldn't be their fault if the tattoo didn't look good. So I found my way to Derek... and to tattoo perfection. While I've gotten other tattoos, I've never felt the level of comfort I felt with Derek. He pours decades of experience into his work -- and I've got the proof of this on my wrists. He has the rare ability to balance listening with informed advice-giving... truly unique in any field these days. Thanks, Derek, for taking my vision and making it real. read more

My tragus piercing fell out over the weekend and I was really worried it was going to close up. A lot of the piercing shops in Charlotte are booked out weeks even for a simple earring change and won't answer the phone!! I was randomly close by Crown and ran in to see if they could change my earring and they were SO nice. They got me in right away and the friendly, funny guy (owner maybe?) replaced my tragus earring and also let me know that my conch piercing was made of copper and not great for me for several reasons and he changed that out for me also! I haven't gotten a new piercing in forever but I will be back for one ASAP because I loved Crown and the piercer so much!!! read more

I went to this place Tuesday and they were great at getting me in fast for a nose piercing. I had a bad nose piercing done at a local retailer, and of course they messed it up with the equipment they used (my fault). My nose piercing already don't even have that pinch feeling anymore after only a few days. I can barely even feel it, so the after service comfort was spectacular. The pricing was less than what I paid elsewhere (for the same service requested). I will be going back again for my other nose soon. These guys know what they're doing and are super professional. read more

Don't come here if you want a quality tattoo! The tattoo artist does not care about the outcome of your tattoo and just wants to take your money. I am getting my tattoo fixed at Tattoo Bill's, Inc. they are actually professional with a good safe clean environment read more

Guy is Really heavy handed, tattoos just scabs up. The Ink doesn't stay not worth the time or money, he also said he makes a lot of money just taking people in, so he doesn't care for the quality because my tattoos are messed up now! He just tattoos your body just to tattoo your body not taking the proper precautions, so your piece looks good. read more

If you like rude tattoo artist then look this way! I went in hopes of getting a simple tattoo. Right when I opened the door I had to wait at a gate! Wasn't acknowledged until 5 mins passed. They then asked me what I wanted and I told them what size tattoo I want. The girl then went to the guy and asked for a price of the size tattoo I wanted. She stated to him she would only pay 40 for the tattoo. So then he proceeded to ask me what I would pay for the tattoo and I proceeded with the answer the girl said which was 40. He shook his head no then carried about his day. Then when I said I can do 60. Mins you I wasn't even able to see his work to agree on a price. Don't even waste your time especially if you have to wait at a gate. Save your energy y'all. Go to Tattoo Factory on Statesville‼ You definitely won't regret it! Best price and clean. read more

Before you read further, please note that I visited this location for a new bellybutton ring. Not a wide selection of belly button rings. As far as tattoos, I don't have one (yet), but am currently weighing that decision. This location was featured in Charlotte's edition of Creative Loafing in an article titled "Charlotte Ink." As far as bellybutton rings go, I am unable to rate them any higher than 2. However, I plan to make this shop my first visit if/when I get my tattoo, and will update my review then. The folks were really nice, and appear to have a huge selection of artwork to choose from. Tips: - Parking leaves much to be desired. You may have to park in the back, which looked like a junk car lot. - If you have to park in the back, the front door is up front on the street so you'll have to walk up the way you drove in. read more

I had a great time and experience with this shop! I came into have my nose pierced for the third time. The other two times were from this place out in LA that did not know what they were doing. Anyway. I was in good hands with Crown. Derek pierced my nose. He very professional, fun, and quick! If you're looking to get a lasting nose piercing that is reasonably priced, go to Crown! read more

Went to ask about if my nose piercing was infected and even though the sign said open he said it was closed. Gave me false information, i went to a different piercer and they helped me. Passed by this place on the way home and the open sign was still on. He seemed rude and untrustworthy. read more

So very helpful with a piercing switch out! Worked diligently to find the perfect size and fit! Not overpriced and laid back atmosphere, we will be going back! No questions were left unanswered and I am a happy girl read more

I came here abt two years ago to get my fix of ink. (they are addictive) Well, I drew my "Tat" out so I figured how hard could it be to copy and paste right... RIGHTTTTT!!!! well after Mr. What-Ever-The-Hell-His-Name is finished smoking (why do they have to smoke before work?) and started on my tat... when I looked at the clock go round and round and round (damn near 3 hrs) for a tat that was maybe 3inch by 3inch. NOTE... MY TATTOO was a Ying/Yang, with the two lil circles representing 2 clocks in the inside. (can you picture that.. right.. that ain't too hard right.?) i told buddy he did a "great job" tipped the dude a few more bucks because i KNOW he needed it and wld probably be his last. WELP.. IT WAS.. a friend went (even after I told them where to go for good work) and wanted me to come with... and that person was NOT there anymore. also.. i HATE when an "artist" tells me what to get.. even when I tell them what I want and where i want it. THE NERVE of another artist to tell me NO, you should get it put ______ instead. GTHOH. I'M PAYING.. RIGHT?????........................... RIGHTTTT!!!!!!!!! read more

My wife and I first tattoo out here in North Carolina; so we decided to go to a local spot right off South Boulevard. The artist Derrick was extremely entertaining, funny and a great conversationalist. He definitely made our visit and tattoo experience a great one to remember since this was our first one out here in NC. There is parking behind the building so walking to the door shouldn't be a problem..... Derrick is a very good artist that sketches out all his tats which means they all look great and unique. You have to love a tattoo artist that takes his time with something going on you permanently. Love this place; coming back for another one. read more

Very hospitable service! They take their craft seriously and really helped me finalize the design I had in my mind. Thanks Amanda! I will be back. read more

The atmosphere in this shop was very chaotic, while Derrick was giving a tattoo he was consistently taking breaks to sell tattoo supplies as well as tend to other clients getting piercings. He made uncomfortable and inappropriate (even sexual) jokes. I've had two separate experiences at this shop where double piercings were done asymmetrical and done at odd angles. He was so preoccupied with other tasks in the shop that he didn't even check for ID until after the piercing was done on my last occasion at the shop. I would not recommend going to this shop, the shop owner's eyesight seems to be deteriorating. He was wearing two pairs of glasses and still somehow pierced me and another person wrong. read more

Best artist I've had do work on me. I travel a lot for work, and I add to a sleeve, which is a work in progress. Derek looks at the other work, matches the style, adds his 30 yrs of expertise, and does phenominal work. Moreover, if he sees a piece of work that isn't up to snuff, he point it out and improves it...just because he takes pride in the craft. I highly recommend his artistry to anyone looking to get a tattoo, whether you live in Charlotte or just passing through read more

My husband and I really like this tattoo shop. Derek was our tattoo artist. He had me convinced this was where I would want to get a tattoo because he sketches all his work. All my tattoos are unique and have always been sketched from an artist off the top of their head. I prefer to have a tattoo that nobody else will have (it might be similar but never my exact tattoo, unlike people who chooses a tattoo from the wall or the set of pics in other shops). Derek made me feel comfortable. He was friendly, funny and informative. We will definitely go back for another tattoo. This shop does piercing as well and have plenty of body jewelry to choose from. As far as parking, there is parking in the back and the walk to the door isn't far at all. read more

Derrick is absolutely the best artist I've ever gotten work from. Super clean, assembled all equipment in front of me. Very picky about giving you the cleanest tattoo/piercing. Very good prices and a very honest guy. He takes his time to bring your skin art to perfection, and he's not afraid to tell you if the placement or location of where you're wanting your ink is a good or bad one. Definitely will be going back. You won't get another experience like this or prices like these anywhere in Charlotte surrounding. Hope this helps. read more

Thad did a really good job on my heart tattoo. The place is kind of old and dingy but the work area environment was sterile. I would defiantly let Thad do another tattoo for me. read more

I got my nose pierced here, the woman who did my piercing must have been new to everything. When she pierced it I started bleeding which is fine but my blood was dripping everywhere and she had no paper towels readily available. Then my friend got a snakebite piercing by the same woman, and they came out lopsided. Needless to say I won't be going back. The owner did offer a refund, and to fix it but we were pretty much done with this place. read more

My friend and I went in for a tattoo and some dermals respectively, no reservations, and everyone was super accommodating and pretty hilarious. The woman artist did my ankle tattoo and it came out awesome. Very clean lines and basically painless. All three tattooists were in the same room working and we all chit chatted and talked film while getting tatted. I was allowed in the room with my friend while she was getting pierced and the artist was professional, clean, and great at what he does. Definitely making Crown my go-to tat shop in Chatlotte. Can't wait to visit again! read more

I have been going to Crown Studios for over ten years for both ink and piercing, and I will stand by the work of its owner, Derek, 101%. He is creative, realistic, skilled, honest, and reasonably priced. I have read the other reviews, and I am pretty sure one or more are courtesy of his psychotic ex-wife and/or her accomplices in outright libel. There are no sex offenders (like it isn't a click away to check this out, moron), there is no drug use (people under the influence are not allowed in the building at all), and there are no gangsters. The fact that Crown has a devoted African American clientele should be a feather in its cap, and whoever wrote it is a hangout for gangsters is either an idiot, a racist, or both...I see the reviewer has since removed that bit of stupidity, but everyone should feel welcome there. I also see reviews of parking, studio size, etc...who gives a flying frack? This isn't a day spa, people. You come here to get quality bod mods, not bask in the ambiance. I also recommend people check out Yahoo reviews, which are far more thorough and lengthy. In any case, this is the place to go! read more

OK. Call it luck or whatever you want but I couldnt be happier with my tattoo. Had another local artist do some work and just was not happy after leaving. Waited for the tattoo to heal properly. Called Crown and spoke with a young lady and got an appointment with Nic. He went to work on what the previous artist had started and the overall outcome is awesome. I absolutely love what he did. 5 stars all the way and thank you Nic, for a job well done. read more

I called about if the shop ran specials on/participated in doing Friday the 13th tattoos, and instead of scoffing and getting an attitude like most of the shops I'd called, Derreck (the shop manager) simply asked what the promo was and (POLITELY) told me their shop did not. About an hour later I called back and made an appointment with Derreck for a regular tattoo, even though that wasn't my original plan. I was so impressed by the politeness and GREAT attitude, over the phone where he honestly had no 'motive' to be so courteous. A friendly, great attitude is an unfortunately RARE find in the world of tattoo shops. I go to another shop in town but had recently started "shopping" after finally being fed up with catching rude attitudes and having to explain what I was after OVER and over again instead of just doing what I was wanting in the first place. The tattoo is going on MY body forever, if I'm not asking for your artistic tweaks and input, then either do what I ask or politely decline, DON'T waste my time redoing and redoing and REFUSING to do what I ask. It's incredibly frustrating and honestly really exhausting, and mind you, I've gone to this other shop since 2008, and even though I've spent $1000s there and a ridiculous about of time with MULTIPLE artists, all but ONE of the artists have horrid "listening ears" and even worse attitudes. (And, go figure, the one great guy there is leaving...) So I will most definitely be returning to Derreck and Crown Tattoos, the work he did was FANTASTIC and JUST what I was after. He was very professional, has over 20 years of experience and had an absolutely stellar work ethic, He even touched up a few of the other tattoos that I had been neglecting to go back to my other shop to do. I really can't say enough about what a night and day difference it was, DEFINITELY check them out, prices are great as well as the work, it'll all right on!! read more
