Our family unfortunately had a very poor experience. I would like to start with some positives…read morethough. The facility is really beautiful. It's well secured for memory care. The only other positive as far as memory care is concerned was Asuka. She was extremely considerate, warm and compassionate. A really wonderful person in general. Also, we pleased with the general caregiving staff. Now on to the unfortunate part, and I'd like to mention that it's unfortunate because 1. My uncle experience a huge decline in health very quickly, which yes this does happen with Dementia, but we truly believe his experience at Clearwater was a direct cause of an even speedier decline. 2. A business in the memory care/assisted living profession should be one that is skilled in such a sensitive area and we do not feel that is the experience we received. We were led to believe there was medical care available at all times, there was not. The head nurse at the time was a LVN who appeared to have no knowledge of how to take care of memory impaired patients. The take away on our end was a rough one. It was not at all how we hoped the experience would be for us and for my uncle. This already hard transition was heartbreaking for my aunt. I would just suggest really doing a deep dive when looking into memory care facilities best you can. It appears there have been some staffing changes at Clearwater in the past 6 months or so ago. We truly hope that this makes a big difference in every families and patients experience from now on.

Clearwater at Newport Beach has made that transition not only easier, but positive for all of us! At first, the change was hard for my sister, but the staff was so loving, patient, and genuinely caring that everything shifted. She now thanks me for having her there, which speaks volumes. The facility is absolutely beautiful -- we honestly call it "the resort" because it doesn't feel like assisted living at all. They also take residents on weekly outings, which we really appreciate. We toured several memory care facilities and nothing compared to Clearwater. Hands down the best choice we could have made. We're incredibly grateful for the care and compassion they show every day.

However, she recently sustained a fall and fractured her tibia requiring a higher level of care. We were dismayed that staffing shortages at this facility required her to wait for prolonged periods of time for basic care which made her anxious, disappointed and sad. This prompted us to look for other local alternatives and we visited Vivante at Newport Center. They happened to have a special rate for the smaller units which ended up costing us only $700 more per month. However, the differences in the caregivers was astounding. Everyone took special measures to ensure they understood her needs and couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. In addition, the room was considerably more spacious, has an elegant full kitchen (as opposed to a kitchenette with a microwave) and the food and restaurant is not even comparable. We have met several residents who also moved from Atria to Vivante but never the reverse. When my wife wrote a heartfelt letter about the incompetence of some of the staff to the Senior Executive Director of Atria, Mr. Brian Keys, he never even responded. Does this represent the priorities of their leadership? In all fairness, there are employees at Atria that are caring and competent. But even at the standard rent and level of care, the relatively nominal upgrade price is the bargain of a lifetime.

I have mixed feelings about this place. There are some things they do very well. The best shifts…read moreare Days and Swings. However Graveyard is absolutely terrible. My short stint there could have been so much better. I was there for rehab after knee replacement surgery. Graveyard made me anxious and intimidated. I was in a vulnerable place and just tried to ride it out. One final incident was enough for me to speak out. I was told from the get go that Graves had their own program and it was insinuated that I should comply. Why was I in a diaper? No idea. PT wanted me walking to the restroom. Not on graves. They insisted I pee and poop in the diaper. Humiliating. Nope! Not going to happen. I had to wait until Dayshift for someone to guide me to the bathroom. I was awoken in the early AM, still graveyard, a couple of times by someone kicking my bed. The jolt made my heart race. I have a heart condition and it wasn't a good approach. The nursing on nights is the complete opposite of days and swings. Let's just say I'm surprised this one nurse still has a job. The nurse broke protocol and policy. The nurse tried to tell me I was crazy regarding a specialty medicine I've been taking. The nurse left this medication in a cup and didn't tell me or watch me take it. There is so much more with this situation that was wrong and just too long to go into. I finally reported to several people all the stuff that was happening to me on graveyard. The head nurse was shocked and promised to look into it. I was leaving the next day and thankfully the nurse in question was on days off. I was actually worried about retaliation. That should never happen to anyone. Days and Swings may function well, but graveyard is terrible. I honestly cannot recommend this place because of graves!! The food at this place is terrible. I could hardly eat anything. I have food allergies and most of the time it wasn't followed. I would suggest a complete overhaul of their menu. And taste the food before you send it out. This facility isn't cheap. You should get a decent meal. I don't know how you mess up scrambled eggs but they succeeded. The care I received is mixed. Dayshift was the best, Swings was next, with the exception of two or three really great employees on swings. They know who they are. Graves is in the negatives. It may not be fair to lump everyone together but the negative far outweighs the positive so I have too. This place has great potential. I really think they are working on many things. Fix graveyard. Fix the employees who don't seem to like their job, who run their own program that is nothing like other shifts and the patients pay for it. Stop letting them intimidate patients. I was literally afraid to sleep. I'm glad my stay was short. One of the big pluses was the PT and OT staff. They were fantastic. They are a step above in all things. I unfortunately overheard very upset family members on graveyard complaining about the medical staff. It was awful listening to their concerns and the staff pretty much ignoring them. I secretly hoped they would take it further. Some employees on graves actually looked petrified at the simplest requests. The one nurse on graves probably shouldn't be in health care. There is also a huge language barrier on all shifts This causes its own unique problems. All I can offer is to do your research. Ask questions. Believe your loved ones. I wish there were separate facilities for people just needing rehab. No one should experience what I did or the other problems I just happened to overhear. ***The facility is very clean and smells really good***

While what clearly was a life changing decision originally, moving into Vivante has proven time and again to be the best for both. Sadly, we lost our mom last month after an incredible fight she had been putting up for the past few years. Her last ten days truly showed us the incredible "loving care" by so many of Danica Coronel's TEAM. Now, over the years I have visited the facilities hundreds of times. I have gotten to know many of the caregivers, nurses, medtechs, servers, etc., and I have always felt good when leaving that my parents were in great hands. It is always clean and in good condition. We have enjoyed many great meals, met many residents & their families, and created some good memories (under the circumstances). Those "last ten days or so before her passing," REALLY opened my, and many of my family's eyes to the true depth of passion & caring of SO many of the Vivante staff (On the apartment side & especially in The Shores facility). From the smiling greetings by Jojo & Julie, the always positive Vince, Danica & Olivia, the incredibly joyful Alyssa (and mom Debbie), Krista, Ashlee, Elizabeth, Zoila, Jesus, Angela, Pilar, Irizella, Sara, lovely Aricelli who would make mom a nice cup of hot chocolate with a smile & warm words, to the cooks & servers, there are many more to mention. These past years have also opened my eyes to how difficult a job it is, especially to care for those with various stages/levels of dementia. If you are looking for yourself or for one of your loved ones, my entire family would urge you to look into Vivante Newport Mesa. It is a first class facility run by an incredibly dedicated TEAM that exudes passion. Respectfully, Dan Stauber

As a former Skilled Nursing Director, I knew it would be hard to find not just a care facility but a true community for her. She was my main concern. From the moment we arrived, we found exactly that! Danika, the Director, leads with compassion and strength. Olivia, the coordinator, brings a level of organization that made the transition feal seamless. Julie the secretary, greeted us with warmth every day. Making The Shores feel like home. Kaytlin, the activities director is slowly bringiing my non social mother back into life with her creativity and genuine joy. The employees ooze happiness with their jobs. The service is exceptional and its truly is a 5 star resort for the elderly. The menus are beyond brilliant and the food quality is a chefs kiss! The entertainment is beyond amazing, with numerous grand events to entertain family and the residents. Vivante isn't just an Assisted Living or Memory care facility. It is a touch of elegance that I am putting my name on the waiting list soon! I couldn't be happier with the care my mother is receiving. The employees go above and beyond to make each resident feel loved! I couldn't be more gratful that Vivante has walked alongside our family in such a vulnerable time! You made a very difficult situation a seamless effort to make my mother content and happy. I can literally relax now and live my life in peace. Just an FYI, they serve amazing dinners and have a good selection of wine for visitors and residents themselves. Always a good reason to visit a loved one. Vivante..... One classy place! Exceptional in every way! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Yvette Matthiessen (Yolande AKA YoYos daughter)

From the moment she arrived, I felt an overwhelming sense of peace knowing she was in loving, capable hands. The staff is not only professional but genuinely kind. They treat my mother with such respect and warmth--like family. They are incredibly attentive and responsive, the management always keeping me updated and making sure every detail of her care is handled with sensitivity and precision. From medication management to doctor's appointments and therapy, everything runs so smoothly. I never have to worry or follow up--it's just done, and done well. On top of that, the food is delicious, the music and various fun activities bring her so much joy, and the atmosphere is peaceful and comforting. There's laughter, music, and genuine connection in the air--it doesn't feel like a facility; it feels like a nurturing home. I'm endlessly grateful to Koli and her wonderful team at Signature Residence for giving my mom the dignified, joyful life she deserves--and for giving me the gift of peace of mind. Kolaleh gave us a tour of the facility, which was in fact in a house with a homey feel to it. The food was made in the kitchen and looked fresh and wholesome. We met with the staff and liked the caring and gentle ways with which they interacted with the residents. The entire place, including the residents' rooms and the restrooms were clean and neat. We spoke with Kolaleh several times and found her very kind and genuinely interested in taking care of older folks. After we made sure that our mom's physical, medical, and emotional needs would be well attended to by Kolaleh and her staff, we decided to move her there. My mom has been living at Signature Residence for 2 1/2 years and, despite all her chronic physical problems and dementia, she feels comfortable and content. She likes the food and spending time in the backyard and watching the three chickens who live there. Kolaleh and her staff always welcome family and friends visiting and treat us as guests. My brother and I are happy with our choice and our minds are at ease, knowing that Kolaleh has the best interest of our mom in her mind and heart.
