We came in for a quick drink before a show at Mississippi Studios - service was quick, and fast. Drinks were HEAVY pours - booze was extra extra. It's a dive bar, so yeah the tables were a little sticky and the bathroom was a little sketchy - but you know what you're coming in for when you open the door. read more

This place is always where I start my night on Mississippi. It's never overly crowded, but has a good amount of people every time I come. The drinks are good and are a standard price. The bartenders are often in a bad mood, but other than that I enjoy hanging out with friends here. Definitely worth a visit, they also rotate a 'specialty' shot on tap. So far they have had green tea shots and Washington apple shots. read more

I went there in bar crawl last night, it was super package but it's halloween weekend, so I expected to be that way. Even with no space for large groups we were having a good time, we ordered some drinks for everybody and when we start sipping our drinks one of the bartender ask us to mask it up, we looked at her and make a gesture with our drinks and continue talking and drinking, then again she yield at us that if we don't mask it up she would kick us out the bar, so we just walk it out the bar. Real cool spot on Mississippi that serves up some great drinks. I can't remember the name of the drink I got but it had whiskey in it and had a chocolate and coffee type of taste. May not sound the most appetizing but surprisingly good! Also appreciate that they were generous with the alcohol. read more

This seems like a decent dive by Mississippi Ave standards, not exactly American Legion status. Nice big bar with an okay tap selection (12 total, 2 IPAs) low lighting/candles, and a long narrow floor and plan that takes you back to the horse and buggy storefront vibe. Service was questionable, bartender more concerned with co workers than paying customers. I'm looking forward to coming back, Hopefully next time someone else is working. read more

Not sure the aim but previous reviewers said they were also cut off or they were not let in for no apparent reason then wrote a negative review and were then threatened and harassed... maybe by this Smith S maniac? but this proved to be an unnerving and frightening interaction. We went into Crow Bar because we liked the name. It wasn't super crowded on a Friday night, around 9pm. We were still able to grab a few seats at the bar. Between the three of us, we tried three cocktails. One was a simple cocktail: a shot of whiskey with some amaro - my friend drank this over ice and liked it so much he asked for something similar at the next bar. The second cocktail was a variation of a mule and the third was a berry shrub and gin concoction. I wanted to get something with the cucumber melon shrub but they were out of it unfortunately. I still really enjoyed my drink though - it was very fruity but sour from the shrub. I like that they have a lot of cocktails which make use of shrubs! I would describe this bar as a bit divey but not too divey - they make some good unique cocktails. I'd be back. read more

I would never have ventured into the Crow Bar if by myself, but I was with a large group and this is where we ended up. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The place is dimly lit and very dark, and not just visually. There is just this sort of dismal feeling to the whole place. In fact, a man tried to give us his table but we decided to move to the back of the joint. He literally barked at us when we declined. That being said, I was enterained by the idea of the $5 margarita on tap. It was quite tasty. They also had water on tap to serve yourself at the end of the bar. The raven-haired barmaid ('raven-haired', get it? The place is called the CROW bar!) was amazing to watch. Talk about multi-tasking! I swear she was pouring four drinks at once, including everything from beer to a mixed drink. I decided to check out the jukebox as the music playing overhead was a bit too metal for me. I think the CD's in the box were simply discarded discs from patrons or picked up at garage sales. They were all over the place. Everything from the Flaming Lips to Aretha Franklin. About 80% of the artists/bands represented were unfamiliar to me and the balance were discs that I had never heard of. Bottom line - don't judge a book by it's cover. Dig deep and keep an open mind. You just might get a good drink and be entertained at the same time. read more

Good for hydrating, diluted drinks. They're unaccountable to the non-functioning/money-taking photo-booth and won't place an out-of-order sign. They deem patrons drunk simply because a drink was purchased at their establishment. I was embarrassed taking my date out on her birthday on trendy Mississippi. A bouncer snatched my beverage from me after the bartender suggested I call the photo-booth and threw it away claiming I was drunk. I haven't been that insulted in public before. I was foolish for generously tipping them $10 on two (unbeknownst to me, watery) drinks. There are much more agreeable places for drinks on fantastic Mississippi. Try Prost, Bar Bar, Interurban, anything but here. On a positive note, Crow Bar can seize opportunities to improve their guest experience. They can hopefully only go up from here. This place definitely lived up to it's Dive bar theme. Nice and darkly lit and interesting bathrooms here too, which I posted pictures of. Interesting little place. The drinks were kind of small but glad I didn't have anything too big, all I have is vodka on the rocks anyways. I've by now learned anything else does not agree with me. We were lucky to get a parking place right outside of the place. We stopped in before heading out to a class at Alder Creek. Was definitly fun times. I would go back here if I was in the area again. Dark, seedy, and smoky, the crow bar is a local favorite for late night drinks. It's a total neighborhood bar, and one I'm quite fond of. The jukebox is loud and the crowd is noisy too, so it's not the best place for an intimate conversation, but fun for half drunk groups who want to leave sloshed. It's a charming little space with exposed brick in the back and a series of tables along one wall, church pews along the other, and a pool table in the middle. Pro Tip: The mixed nuts are delicious! I think they are the Wild Oats variety, full of yummy brazilian nuts and macadamia nuts and salt. Goes well with beer and friends. This is a good place to come with one or two people and make friends--since the tables are so packed together we almost always end up yapping with the neighbors. read more

The music is loud, the pool table acts up, the balls are mis-numbered, the pool sticks are missing their tips, the tables are sticky, your drink is stiff, the bathroom is some place you never want to visit, and some drunk guy is asking you if he can buy you a drink... what more are you looking for when you just want to satisfy your basic drinking needs? They have a great draft list, the usual PBR's, well priced well-drinks, a great selection of the prime alcohol, I hear they have food but the sketchy dive bar vibe keeps my stomach full every time. No reason to go anywhere else unless you're wanting a crafted cocktail shaken by someone wearing suspenders, or you've got yourself a date that you're wanting to wine and dine.. other then that Crow Bar is the perfect spot to get those pre-dinner drinks for cheap, or its just a place to hang out at with no one trying to rush you through your drinks! read more

The staff hates you for making them turn away from their laptop while they are surfing ebay for more hipsterish glasses and tighter pencil jeans to order a drink. It takes more than big lowballs to keep me away from L5050. But we did think long and hard about coming again after dinner. Crow Bar's very existence and proximity to L5050 makes for the perfect cocktails and dinner combo. I actually find myself wanting to hit up L5050 during their busiest times so that I can spend my time waiting at the Crow Bar and knocking back a few $3 wells. We definitely got ourselves a cocktail, and some pinball, and a few members of the group even got some tacos. Crow bar is your average neighborhood watering hole with a better-than-average tap list and a better than average whiskey selection. A decent pour of Yamazaki for $10 is totally my speed, especially in a place that looks like it shouldn't have a top shelf selection. The space is long and narrow, with a few pinball machines at the back (Scared Stiff, Monster Bash, and something else - I forget) and table seating lining the long side opposite the bar. Beyond the bar and the pinball, they offer a pool table and not too much else. Just a good place to grab a drink and enjoy a better-than-average selection of booze at a pretty reasonable price. I can't justify calling this place a "dive bar" as it is much too airy and clean, but Crowbar embraces the cheap drinks and witty banter just as much as any of Portland's oldest stinkers. A well stocked bar, large selection of beer and wine, margaritas on tap, and non-fried appetizers make Crowbar well worth the drive into NoPo. Pretty tight zone to get slizzard on that liquid. Dark and divey, friendly staff and bar goers. Great people watching at the outside tables. Would not bring a girl here unless it was past like date 12 and she already kinda knew what she was getting into -- or would, if she were a total Bad Bitch, which I mean ideally is what you're after from the get go but sometimes we settle. Lots of metal and motorcycle stuff going on. No serviceable food, but you're on Mississippi so you can probably figure that part out without too much difficulty. Not a bad place to pass some time. Yes it's a bar. You can buy alcohol here. Especially beer. They have an excellent taplist and I usually spy Walking Man or Everybody's Brewing on tap which is enough to make me smile. I've never had the food and I've never even seen anyone eat the food here either, so make what you will of that. It's a small space, but it's friendly and on a Mississippi pub crawl you know it is inevitable that you will stop in here. You will either play pool or get hit by the pool cue at least once in their close quarters. Their website even lists their current pinball machines! What do I love most about this place? In my experience, Crow Bar is nothing if not the penultimate seedy, smoky, noirish little Portland hipster dive. The kind of place where vampires, private detectives, and the guys from Interpol might come to mingle. With a shadowy interior, strange and fantastic art hanging from dark brick walls, pool sharks sulking about, and a juke box blaring well, Interpol...not to mention The Smiths, Guided By Voices, The Gossip....this place is Portland's version of The Beatles' Cavern Club. Hip and dark...that's all you really need to know. Actually there is one additional thing I probably ought to add, which is that there is something downright spooky going on with the beer there. My friends and I call it The Crow Bar Effect. All of my ex-coworkers and I used to frequent the place; a motley crew of about 12 or so music industry workers. It was noted and agreed upon time and time again that when drinking in The Crow Bar, for every ONE beer consumed, this actually equaled TWO beers consumed. I'm not certain how this works, nor do I care to find out, but I invite anyone to experience it for themselves...if you drink under that roof, you just might get intoxicated twice as fast as you ought to be. And it's not limited to the beer, apparently Crow Bar's wine (which I hear is excellent) is governed by the same mystical alchemy. read more
