Recently, they made some huge changes to the stage and screens and can now do really neat stuff with the background and even the floor of the stage. My wife and I have been attending Crossroads Oakley on and off since 2015. We were both pretty heavily involved pre-COVID, volunteering in multiple roles, from First Impressions, Kids-Club, Student Ministry, Experience Team, Undivided, Rooted, group leadership, and more. The idea is that Crossroads is a church for people who don't like church. If you're a "holy roller" you may not feel comfortable with the laid-back atmosphere. I've read some reviews where people comment on money. The one thing I love about Crossroads is that they spend all their money on the community and serving God. Yes, they bring in tens of millions of dollars a year, and they spend it, and not on private jets or fancy preachers. They even post their independent financial audits online if you want to see where the money goes. (https://www.crossroads.net/give/giving-changes-lives) I am sure the senior people make a decent salary, but we're not talking Joel Osteen money. So, if I think it's such a great place, why only 4 stars? Well, it's complicated. I find that the church tends to focus on a younger crowd and as such, seems to discount the opinions and needs of us older folk. There is also an extreme push toward "adventure" in almost every series. I am confident this is due to senior pastor Brian Tome's love for the outdoor life. That's all well and good, but we're not all campers or outdoor enthusiasts. For me, the biggest issue arises from an incident a few years back involving a guest speaker who was highly biased against the LGBT+ community. The speaker has a right to his opinion, but said opinion wasn't in the spirit of community and inclusiveness that brought me to Crossroads. Even more concerning was the official response, which fell way short of embracing the LGBT+ community. If the message is Jesus is for ALL, that means ALL. read more

staff member pressured me to leave and made me cry*** went to service this Thursday for the second time. I was in the seats with my 10 month old, only a few people sitting around us. she wasn't screaming or being loud just making normal baby babbling noises. staff came us to Me multiple times to inform me there was a room upstairs I could sit in with her. i went up to that room the week before and it was a sad room with a tv screen to watch the service I did not like it. so this week i thought it's be fine to sit in regular seating, once again my daughter was not screaming just making soft babbling noises. finally a staff member came up to me and made be extremely uncomfortable. He tried to pressure me and told me to go up to the room upstairs and that my daughter was distracting everyone. No one was even looking at us lol. felt like a weird power trip. I'm used to Catholic Church were it's very silent and no one has ever complained about my daughter. I told him I'd just leave, he did not seem to care. then as I was leaving I informed the ladies in the front of what had happened and pointed the gentleman out. He came up and lied and said people kept turning around the whole service cause of my daughter. 45 min I was there I saw one person turn around, once. At I time my daughter was being completely silent. What a horrible unwelcoming experience, I would never go back here again. Never thought a baby babbling would get Me pressured out of leaving church. Doesnt seem quite Godly, this church is all talk but staff doesn't represent that talk with their actions. and I would discourage any one with kid to going here. read more

I'm a college student and attended a Thursday service for the first time this week with a friend who grew up going to crossroads. The entire sermon was about how if you have money then it needs to go to the church. I felt drained and did not feel like I attended church afterwards rather a religious stickup. A video was played sharing the story of a woman who outwardly dissed Catholicism and the overarching theme was, I couldn't find anyone to have kids with so I gave all my money to the church and god gave me what I wanted. The whole thing was just about making people feel selfish for having money and how if you give to the church you'll get what you want. At the start of the service I enjoyed the music and was pleased to hear they have their music on Spotify to listen at home, upon further thought I feel as though they only did that to make more money off people and their religion. The pastor prayed only for himself and not the church which I found strange as well. I won't be returning, did not feel like church or holy at all, just a stickup for my money to make me feel like I'll get what I want in life so the church can get a new soundboard. read more

Quick update: I solely believe, after years of attending this church, that it is absolutely wonderful for the new seeker. If you're searching for an answer to, "Is there a God," you'll definitely find your answer here. For someone seeking deeper into the Bible, I wouldn't recommend Crossroads. The church for people who hate church. Located in Oakley off of Madison Rd, a huge non-church looking building awaits to greet you. Ample parking in front, back and side lots as well as the Annex. Kroger also opens up their parking for busier services. This is a "mega church" so traffic can get busy. Patience though! There's always volunteers helping in the parking lot. It is never that bad of a wait. You will always been greeted at the door by volunteers holding the door, smiling and welcoming you. You'll never feel alone in a place like Crossroads. Never do you feel unappreciated. The kids club is the BEST. My toddler has been in kids club since she was a baby and I serve in Kids Club. Volunteers go through a rigorous background check, reference check and class. I fully trust everything about KC. It is always kept clean and welcoming. There's two main pastors at Crossroads. Brian Tome is the senior pastor; warning, he is a truth teller. Sometimes he makes comments that some people rate as offensive but he is brutally honest. If you want a happy feeling all the time, don't expect that. The pastors are here to challenge you! Chuck Mingo the campus pastor is more "preachy" but in a great way. He's inspiring and fun. Speaking of FUN, that's what this church is about. Speaking to you in a way that you will understand. God will always meet you at Crossroads. You'll never be alone, you'll never feel like you're not meant to be there. If you can handle the tough questions, Crossroads is a great place to meet God. Crossroads has been our church home since August when we moved to Cincinnati, it took a little bit to adjust to the "mega" aspect of it and yes it is a very large church. The church is large but you always feel welcome when walking in by the greeters, the parking committee always does the best they can to properly guide people in, though one time we did end up not going because the entire lot was full, which is not a bad thing! This church always has the best worship by far, always makes you feel comfortable and the pastors are always spot on with their messages. I wish I could describe the feeling you get when you are in the building but you'll have to find out for yourself! Overall this is definitely a top tier church for me and the rumors you hear about "mega churches", are not always true, Crossroads is a great church to attend! read more

I love attending Crossroads at Oakley. I know it's a large church but I feel at home when I attend. I use to church hop prior to attending which wasn't good for me. My first experience was in 2015 but 2017, I committed to attention regularly. I have attended both Sat and Sun services. Recently, Sunday went to virtual as they record live services from Sat and show again on Sunday. I still am good with Sunday because all other aspects are still live. I now serve in two areas which I'm excited about as well. In December, I attended the last production of Awaited. I attended with family and friends as I celebrated my birthday. Everyone really enjoyed the experience. It is sad that it's the last year but I'm sure there will be other great ways to celebrate the season moving forward. read more

I stumbled upon Crossroads 5 years ago mainly as a way to get out of my house after graduating and moving to Cincinnati. I didn't know a single soul (ha.) in this crazy city and the feeling of being around a thousand people but still feeling anonymity was appealing. Woah, little did I know how much my world would be rocked by walking into those doors... Its hard to review a growth of your spirit or what have you... so I will stick to why I enjoy Crossroads from a tactile perspective: 1. FREE COFFEE/Wifi/CDs/everything...seriously.- Crossroads is super generous and not only free but they put so much effort into giving their friends the best of everything. 2.Openness/Accessibility- From the openness of their building (6:30-9 each day) that you can use to hangout or have meetings (and drink their free coffee/wifi), to their people, to their views. They are very welcoming to you right as you are, nothing to hide here. With 3 campuses and numerous service times (Oakley itself has 5 between Saturday and Sunday) and access to bus lines, its pretty accessible. 3.Community/Activities- After visiting a couple times I knew this place was A.huge and B. moving. Within a couple of weeks I was wanting to meet new people...good bye anonymity! They make it really accessible to find ways of connecting to other people whether its serving, community groups, small groups, or healing groups. They definitely put their money where their mouth is, building into the community and loving on just about everyone. 4.Sensory Awesomeness- So I would consider myself to be a very visual/tactile/artistic expression kind person and this place definitely exceeds that need. The music is awesome and they frequently hear main stream stuff on stage...you will even hear passion pit in the atrium, yes! Sometimes its kind of loud, so don't be frightened your first time. Top notch graphic design and video production team always blow me away each week. During the year they have self guided "prayer experiences" that are really outside the box creatively/visually/hands on. Also they have a Christmas production called Awaited, best show Ive seen in a very long time...and its free. with cookies. 5. Authentic- Lets face it people, I'm not perfect (what?!) and crossroads doesn't think they are either. Nor the pastor. BUT they are trying to live a life authentically. Sometimes they get down to the uncomfortable nitty gritty stuff, which in my church experience has been easier to just sweep it under the rug. They welcome you where you are but don't want you to stay where you are (ie. growth). They don't make assumptions...and they really mean it. Basically they are the same behind the scenes, on stage, and outside of the building. If someone asks you to go. go. If you are thinking about going. go. You may not like it, and that's cool...but who knows where your life will end up 5 years later after stumbling upon this place. I know my life has been changed! ps. Go be the Church! I first started attending Crossroads in 2006 after a co-worker asked me to go after I was frustrated with finding the right church for me in Cincinnati. I grew up with giving back to my community and was trying to find a place where I could call home, meet new people and give back. Walking in for the first time can be overwhelming, but they do have New to Crossroads team to welcome you, answer questions and direct you where to go. If you have more detailed questions you can go to the Info Center, you can't miss it in the middle of the atrium. They also have Context Live, on the third Sunday of the month at 1pm to answer any questions you might have about the church. At first it can be strange sitting in an auditorium in the dark for church, but once you start attending you don't want church in any other way, I find I can concentrate so much more on the message, the weekend messages are spot on and so relevant to our daily fast paced lives. Pastors Brian Tome and Chuck Mingo do an amazing job bringing the word of God in a simple yet meaningful way. Weekend services are run by an army of volunteers, about 1,000 people help in First Impressions, Kids Club and Mainstage each weekend. Music is great lead by Robbie and Andrea playing a variety of music you will have the songs in your head throughout the week. Plus giving back going and being the church is the core of Crossroads. You can jump in and help with Go Cincinnati, a city wide day of community service the third Saturday in May; Thanksgiving Food Drive in November, provides thousands of meals to people in Cincinnati, New Orleans and South Africa; Angel Tree, providing gifts to children of incarcerated parents here in town and several hands on mission trips - Go New Orleans, Go India and Go South Africa. Just go and have fun at Crossroads while learning about God and helping in our city, our nation and our world. read more

Don't let the "Mega-church" appearance discourage you, I have felt more warmth and community in this "Mega-church" than any of the other many churches I've tried. This place would be great if you were looking for somewhere to socialize or meet someone. The free coffee is quite good. But as a church, I wouldn't touch it. There's no preaching of Christ and what he did for sinners; there's no sense that worship and meeting with God should be done with reverence. I've been coming here for a few weeks and I have found it to be a nice way to start a Sunday. Yes, I am usually half asleep or worse, but it always seems to help put my mind in the proper place and give me time to reflect on life and stuff. It's rare these days to be in a public setting and not see the bright rectangular lights of people checking their cell phones, but inside the auditorium/sanctuary/etc, people are actually paying attention and focused on the stage. It's nice. I think one of the things I like most about CCC is that I can come in here in my gym clothes (I had just run a race this past week) and no one even bats an eye. In many churches, I would be stared at and feel under dressed or just awkward. I like Loren C's summation of Crossroad's mentality and M.O., and I think its one of the many reasons why they can pack the 3 locations with thousands of people every Sunday and Saturday. And yes, I know some people really don't like "mega churches" and I understand, but I would say to those people that they look into all the small groups or volunteer opportunities that exist in abundance. My wife and I attended a Crossroads service for the first time a few years ago. We hated it. We are from California and are quite familiar with the "Mega-Church" style...but this for us was just weird. We left and made no plans of returning. Skip forward a little bit and for some reason we felt that we needed to try again. So we did. We loved it. We went back again, and again, and again...and now it is where we call our home church. The reason we love this church though has little to do with the music, the free coffee/wifi/soda, or the multimedia stuff that they do quite well. We love this church because the theology that they preach every weak is rock solid, uncompromising and constantly challenging. My wife and I have been tired of the fluff you get at so many other churches and Crossroads cuts right through the fluff and preaches the word of God without shame. I think it's funny how it is considered a "seeker friendly" church. I have been more challenged in my walk and have heard more theology from this church than any church I have ever been to. Aside from that, this church is so committed to the city of Cincinnati that it is inspiring. They amount of money they put out into the community (as shown on their year end spending packets they give out) is amazing. And not just that...they are giving to Africa, Rescuing girls from Sexual Slavery in India and just building up not just their church...but the Church of Cincinnati. As my wife and I are evaluating our future and work options that might take us outside of Cincinnati...one of the things holding us back more than anything is the thought of losing this church. I think it's odd that we can review churches on Yelp, but okay, here goes. I used to go to Crossroads, and still visit the building during the week - they have the building open for people in the community to stop in, relax, and get free beverages. I like Crossroads because it's a relatively diverse church that does a lot of social justice-related projects and the weekend messages are relevant to real life. Some time back, the pastor, Brian, did a message on the importance of self-awareness, and another on being thankful for what God has done, even if He does nothing else in the future. Both messages changed my life (and that is no hyperbole). So why do I not still attend Crossroads? I wanted to belong to a church where I could really get involved and get to know people on a deeper level, even the leadership. While Crossroads has a lot of volunteer opportunities, it can be somewhat top-down in terms of planning and direction and it's difficult to forge deeper relationships, which is to be expected for a megachurch, but isn't for me. read more

As a liberal with a very conservative Christian upbringing, Crossroads meets me where I am. While I'm not really a fan of mega-churches, I can accept this at Crossroads because the many amazing social justice projects it runs could not ever happen without the sheer numbers. And I think the numbers, in this case, says something good about how people react to Crossroads. I will always remember the day the pastor cracked open a beer on stage, saying that he doesn't need to hide what he does in his backyard, and doesn't need to put up an artificial front with his church. I'm pretty sure he said it much more eloquently, but you get the picture. Crossroads engages its members in its community and worldwide projects, from its annual Thanksgiving Food drive to work against Child Sex Slavery in India. That is some real stuff, and in my humble opinion, the good stuff about Christianity. Crossroads also has an amazing, quality artistic team. You can tell how much thought and work goes into preparing each message series. And who doesn't love free coffee, juice and soda? And free wi-fi? Finally, I really appreciate that Crossroads operates as a very well-oiled machine. That probably sounds weird, but I guess I appreciate that everyone who volunteers or works on staff really cares about what they are doing, think it through, and puts their best into it. Is this a church for everyone? No, it's not, and it's not pretending to be. It's much more modern, less ritualistic, and fairly informal. And it's huge and warehouse-y. The staff there doesn't overuse "Christian" speak. You know what I mean if you've ever been involved in uber-religious communities. Worth checking out, if you are looking. read more

I no longer attend Crossroads, but I did for years, and I was even working in the office as a volunteer at the time I decided I really wanted to pursue conversion to Judaism. I'm Jewish now, but after years of various issues (mostly hypocrisy-related) with Christian communities I was a part of, I am so glad that when I left Christianity behind, I did it because it was right for me--not because there aren't good (and yes, sometimes large) Christian organizations and churches. I am still in contact with one the "other Brian" on occasion, and I can often be found working in the atrium. I give money to some of the things Crossroads does, and I know from its small beginnings and conversations with the leadership that this is a good place. Folks who aren't familiar with Crossroads often give it a hard time because of its mega-church status. It started out in a local school building. Brian Tome and others weren't going for a mega-church. In fact, when the church became a serious mega-church, Brian Tome was kinda freaked out about it. This is a truly authentic place that wants to meet people where they're at--so yeah, there's hi-tech action going on, a low key style of dress, mainstream music and video, etc. etc. Jesus met people where they were at, and if you've got even a basic understanding of his life, you know that Jesus wasn't a high priest at a temple or engaging in a lot of ritual. Jesus was talking with people who didn't know God in a way that they could understand. Crossroads tries to reach people who don't know God in ways that aren't wholly unfamiliar, and if you think God can only be found in places that feel different or more special than your day-to-day life, then that's why you might need a place like Crossroads. This church was great for the first two years I attended. Then they started to solicit large sums of money ( $25,000-$50,000) from churchgoers. Seems like the way to GOD in this church is to donate large sums of money. What worries me is that the 20 somethings (seems to be their demographic) will put of their retirement savings, house purchase, etc, on hold to placate this church. This is not the story of Jesus as I remember. Sad. read more

My husband and I have come here for the last few months and are ready to commit. We had been attending another large church for the past three years but were ready for a change. We love Chuck Mingo, the site pastor. He is a great speaker- enthusiastic, honest, thought-provoking, Godly. And we enjoy Brian Tome's sermons as well. I actually like Chuck a bit more. I feel like Brian isn't as humble....but still gives a great message. It is a VERY large congregation which is exciting, but it means you really need to get in a small group to connect. Also, the music is too loud for me. I bring ear plugs which filter out some but not all of the music. I want to hear it. I just don't want to destroy my hearing. Thus, the minus one star. Me and my wife just moved from southern California. We were spoiled out there with access to several amazing nondenominational christian churches that we could attend. Coming to Cincinnati, we were worried that there wouldn't be something similar here. I was so pleasantly surprised when researching this church online about their message. It was really solid and we were excited to see it in person. We went for the first time this Sunday and it is a really impressive church. It is very large. 10,000 people could fit in it. Free coffee and lounge chairs as promised. The message was good. Seems they have a lot of community involvement and the mission of the church seems to be well crafted. My wife is a die hard christian but I am pretty new to spiritual life. This church fits us both. We are excited to get involved with their community and attend more events. Definitely would recommend coming to this church if you are new to the area or looking for something different and fresh from the old denominations of Christianity. read more

This place irritates me to no end but I still can't help but admire a lot of the positive things the church has done. I've been attending Crossroads on and off since they were a much smaller community church borrowing auditorium space in a Hyde Park school. I suppose this is some sort of testament to how much I love my parents, they have been active members since then. The current church is bible-based, motivational tonic for the upper middle crust of Cincinnati. The church is supposed to be a place for those at a cross road in their spiritual path but it seems that a lot of people, many with large pocket books are staying. The church doesn't boast a huge yearly budget but claims to be working month to month, taking what they can to survive from the attendees and sending an amazing amount of money and volunteers into the local, regional and world community. There are several service times each weekend and hundreds, maybe thousands of ways to get involved. The church is located in a converted and expanded building that used to be a chain hardware store (I think it was a Home Depot). Services are located in a huge auditorium, painted black, incredible sound and lighting systems, amazingly produced video and slide shows, beautiful sets, good speakers etc etc etc. I briefly considered traveling to Mamelodi, South Africa last year. Crossroads has a program to help the segregated local community deal with lack of adequate housing, AIDS, raising food and other things. If you're open to the Mega-church or find yourself at a divide in your beliefs but still love Jesus than by all means try this place out. It's still a little creepy to me but I feel it's really good that they broach hard subjects like racism, sex and drugs to the demographic that attends. I just wish they would play the music a little less loud which my parents find hilarious. read more

Crossroads is a great learning environment no matter where you are at in your faith. Even if you are not sure there is such a thing as faith. The teaching is solid and applicable to real life. The speakers present the information in a clear and concise manner, and they don't shy away from the more controversial issues. I wasn't sure about going to a mega-church, but crossroads can feel like a small community of believers as well. I have been so impressed by everything that they are involved in. They are heavily involved in CityLink, The Cincinnati Thanksgiving Food Drive, They raised money tonhelp keep pools open and fund day cares last year, and they help out in South Africa and have partnered with organizations to help Eradicate forced prostitution in India. I have never been a part of a church that is so involved in helping its community and the world at large. It is refreshing and something I can definitely support. read more

I started going to Crossroads when they first had services at the Oakley location (like 12 years ago). They have grown considerably in number in that time but what they stand for has not changed. You can find the full set of beliefs on the website but very briefly they are a non- denominational Christian church that tries to communicate in a culturally relevant way- this is why you'll find movie theater seats in the auditorium that hold complimentary coffee, tea or soft drinks and why the music is loud. To be completely honest I have had a few ups and downs at Crossroads but at the end of the day this is really a place where people are generously and genuinely trying to make a difference in their lives, the community, and the world. I have really grown as a part of this community. This church is not perfect. No church is- they are full of imperfect people trying to get better- but still not one of is perfect like Jesus. If you have never been here, give it a try. You can get a free cup coffee which you can drink during service and if you like it you can come back, there's not much to lose in a visit. read more

So its probably the one church in town that everyone recognizes. I agree with Lauren that, in many ways, Crossroads really frustrates me at times. The church seems like it's too big for its own good and the services border on a circus ring at times. They are doing some things that I can appreciate, though. They seem to try to help the general community in Cincinnati through different means, including helping head up "Give Back Cincinnati." They also offer their main foyer nearly all day everyday for anyone to come and grab some free coffee and hold meetings. In fact, one day my friends and I went and a mini-job fair was being held in the foyer. These kinds of things make me feel less worse about their ginormous building, but I still have some issues with churches being so worried about being cool and also the size in general. read more

The SOP is a football extravaganza, that even someone like me, who kinda, well, hates sports, actually enjoys a lot. The church started the SOP because Superbowl Sunday is the least church-attended Sunday & they wanted to turn that around. In came the creativity. The head pastor and associate pastor battle it out on a certain Biblical topic, with a ref on hand giving penalties and commentators tracking how each pastor is doing versus last year. There are some pre-game goings on, like snacks such as kettle corn made & passed out & in one past year glow sticks were given out as props for the half-time show. The half time show in itself is made into an eye-popping spectacular event, each year with a different theme & current music. There are also filmed parody commercials church volunteers have made & show at half time. It all ends with the ref deciding which minister has preached the best, tabulating points. The day shows the true heart of Crossroads, drawing in those with faith or who may not be into church itself so much, & doing so in ways that meet up with modern culture. Crossroads motto...It's a place for people who have given up on church, but not given up on God. If you are interested in going to church, but don't want the pressure of being put on the spot, this is the place for you. The church is almost arena-like in seating, and dark, as to make you feel more at ease. Pastors Brian Tome and Chuck Mingo are amazing spiritual leaders. Sure, Crossroads is trendy and has huge attendances, but there's a good reason for that. It's one of the largest growing churches in the county, and the amazing things they (actually, we) do for the city and world speaks volumes to its success. I feel blessed to have connected with such a huge group, and even more proud of how they have poured their time, energy and love into my child in their youth program. Bonus if you are not an early riser on Sunday. They offer Saturday services at 4:30 and 6:15. Love that. Id give it 10 stars if I could! read more
