Other people are saying that this is the only grocery store around for at least 20 miles, so maybe that's why they have jacked up the prices. I don't know anything about that. All I know is that it's the closest grocery store to the cabin that we're staying in, and so this is the grocery store we visited to get dinner and beer. They do carry an OK selection of beer, but their dinner offerings are lacking. This is a very basic grocery store, with very basic things. You won't find gourmet or organic groceries here. I looked for some Annie's mac and cheese, and no -- no Annie's. I had to make do with Stouffer's. I know I am sounding really bougie right now, but seriously: you're not going to find your usual stuff here. (Unless, like I said, your usual stuff is Stouffer's. Then in that case: You're in luck!) Anyway, this grocery store also carries a large selection of touristy stuff, like themed t-shirts, sunscreen and outdoor toys and equipment.

Prices are comparable to other grocery stores in the area and at our Home city of Louisville, Kentucky. Something very nice about this grocery store is that staff members always offer to transport your groceries to your car and load it into the vehicle for you. This is such a nice touch and very much appreciated. We have always had excellent service at this grocery store.

Meijer has a large selection of pretty much anything you might want at competitive prices in line with other grocery stores. We still travel a few times a year and saw the sign for this Meijer location on our way through Owensboro while heading up North to visit my wife's family. It is one of our regular stops to stock up on non-perishable items on the way home, and we still find it to be a great place to shop. They have a large fresh produce section with quality items, and the meat and seafood departments are big and good. We try to pack a cooler with us to pick items up on the way home when it is functional to do so. My wife loves to browse the health and beauty section, but she never fails to find ladies' clothing items on clearance or special and picks up new items on virtually every visit we make. But, the best aspect of shopping at Meijer is the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. On our last visit, we used the self-checkout lanes, and I was having difficulty using my MPerks card. I hit the button for assistance, and the lady who arrived to help took full ownership of the problem. While I told her it was not a problem and probably a temporary glitch she called two other staff members to help find a resolution for us and make it right. That is service that is above and beyond any other store we visit. Our only problem with Meijer is that they do not have a store in Dawsonville, GA, or anywhere closer to us than Bowling Green, KY. If for no other reason, we continue to patronize Meijer due to their wonderful customer service and their great staff.

Yay! This store is…read morehuge and has a giant parking lot. They have pretty much every department (garden center, cell phone services, tire & lube, etc.). They also have a grocery section, well-stocked enough to compete with any supermarket. I like the speedy self-checkout and the benches placed randomly throughout the store to rest your feet (or wait for any shopping companions to browse at their leisure). The staff is pretty friendly and the store itself is well-kept and clean.

My friend tried to order turkey and provolone and the lady responded, "Provolone? We don't gots no fancy cheese. This is America. We gots American cheese." Now if that's not disgustingly hillbilly-ish, I don't know what is. It's silly too, because they have pre-sliced packaged provolone cheese in the dairy case. They charge you for your sandwich based on the weight of the meat so it'll be different every time. Also, my other friend asked how much each deli meat was per pound and the lady responded, "I don't know," in a really nasty way, as if that was the stupidest question a person could ask. Classy, right? The prices of everything else (chips, pickles, candy) is decent. You can also fill up on gas here and get cigars, cigarettes, and the like. It's convenient, but I think I'm just a bit too snobby for this place.
