On the outside, you will notice a sign like that of many convenience stores in plain big letters spelling "Lotto Beer Soda Coffee" because obviously lotto, beer, soda, and coffee go so well together. This convenience store is no-nonsense like all convenience stores ought to be and the store keepers are quick. There is one particular store keeper here that always has a smile for you and even knows a bit of Spanish. On any given night, you will find three or four lonely Chinese bachelors standing around satiating their gambling addiction with scratch-offs, probably because they did not have the time or money to hop on the gamble bus to go to Foxwoods that night. And you never know, that next one or twenty-five scratch-offs could be your winning ticket to all your dreams come true.
Many a nights I've walked into this store feeling like I've walked into a furnace. In my own head I've said to the store keepers many times, look, just because you're from India doesn't mean you have to keep the temperature in here like India. Well tonight I walked in and I was only slightly hot, and I heard a familiar friendly buzzing that signals relief in the summertime. It's an AC unit! They have an AC unit above the door! And it's on! Why in the Nine Hells do they not turn it on more often? Yes that was a rhetorical question - I know they're probably trying to save money in this craptastic economy.
