We spend quite a bit of time driving our kiddos back and forth to various skate parks in the area. My son had been begging us to take him to the new Vernon Hills Skate Park, so we headed out on a beautiful sunny day. Getting to the park was a little tricky. For some reason we missed the turn. Aspen Drive is a little hidden if you don't look out for it. When in doubt, just turn around in the Vernon Hills Police Department parking lot ;-) The skate park is new and on the smaller side. For our kids, this was a little more on the beginner level. I don't recommend it for advanced riders. The rails and ledges are limited and it's pretty flat. But, it's so nice and new. The park district did a fantastic job. I have no doubt it will get used quite a bit. It's a great place to gather with friends! Take note: There is only a little shade with a couple of covered areas Tons of parking, and there is a Walgreens nearby for those wanting a snack. The nearby Sullivan Center is actually really nice. It was closed the day they went due to Covid19. Highly recommend for those starting out. Open dawn to dusk.

Central Park, I love you so!…read more I love this place. It is such a great use of land. I was so happy when they started developing it. It's long and narrow shape allows for so many things! I enjoy Fete de Marquette the most of all the festivals/events that take place here. Food, music, a Ferris Wheel! Lots of vendors to browse and even cool activities for the kiddos. 10/10 recommend! I attended the Isthmus Food Cart Fest here, too. Wow that was a BUMMER. I won't get into how much it sucked..... But, it was still a nice set-up at this park. The park also has a skate-park at one end. It's brand new (within the last 2-3 years) and seems to be pretty popular. About midway, there is a really nice brand new restroom facility as well. There is a farmers market weekly in the warm months, too!

The skate park looks similar to others around the country, though some may find it a bit diminutive in size. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, it is just south of State Street, between 70th and 72nd Street. If you are coming here as a destination, there is plenty of parking around the Hart Park and inside of the park, as well. As an older guy now, I do not skateboard anymore, but when I was a teenager in the '60's, living in southern California, I was an avid skateboarder, so I get a lot of joy watching the folks who, nowadays, enjoy the sport. I've also noticed, BTW, the park is not just used by youngsters, but I've seen a lot of older folks skateboarding here; by older, I mean older than the folks that skate boarded with me, back in the day, LOL. I think its great that Wauwatosa and Tosa Skateboarders United (TSU - a registered 501c3 Non-profit organization) were able to cut through the bureaucracy, raise the money with community support and build this fee-free skating venue that gives both kids and adults a safe place to practice the sport of skateboarding in Tosa/Hart Park.
