Idk... something about this mall, doesn't feel full... maybe bc there are so many empty spots open... maybe bc the displays aren't great, maybe bc the A/C wasn't high enough in this freaking 100 degree weather.... There is an uneven balance to this mall... there's an area where it looks updated. Then other spots... just feels old and icky. The food court is not very appealing. The bathrooms are not very clean. That's just the look and feel, aesthetically very old mall. I wouldn't be able to tell about service bc I hardly saw anyone with uniform that looks like they work for the mall operations. As for shops, there are quite a few decent stores - Zara, H&M, Victoria Secrets, Primack, REI, very typical mall brands. If you ever need something, outfit for something, hit this mall up. I'm excited to see a Singapore Cafe type spot is opening soon! Can't wait. read more

Not our favorite mall in the area but a good one! There is loads to do with kids there-escape rooms, 5wits, Dave and busters, Billy bees, trampoline park, mini golf, and more! The restaurants are great and the theater is huge. There are some decent clothing stores and fun shops like lush and bath and bodywork's etc. It's a fun place to kill a few hours or a whole day if you wanted! It can be dirty in the bathrooms but I think that it's just that busy all the time it's hard to keep up with. read more

Very large mall with two levels and so many stores. And very busy with lots of people. So many varieties of stores to include several gaming areas in addition to the Dave and Busters. Not to be confused with the Bossgates Mall (for business owners only), the Rossgates Mall (it's lame and the Friends shop there), the SOSgates Mall (it's in the Bermuda Triangle, at sea), the Mossgates Mall (it's in the woods by a pond), The Lossgates Mall (they give all their merch away), and the Flossgates Mall (I think it's full of dental offices but it might be Brazilian swimwear and thong and slingshot bikini shops and stuff, I forget). The busiest and most bustling mall in the Albany region. The Crossgates Mall. What can be said about it that hasn't been said already. Well a lot can probably be said about the Crossgates Mall, but that doesn't mean you have to say it. It's honestly not one of the best malls you'll ever go to. It has a lot of issues and some of those issues involve the fact that the place is so massive that it's very hard to find particular stores, and takes awhile to get to them It's so long (that's what she said) in every direction that you could walk for miles before you find something. There's multiple levels, so finding stuff is even harder for that reason. Then there's the fact that it's expensive. You could find some sales, especially the closing down sales, since plenty of stores come and go in a mall this size, but when there's not a sale you will be hard-pressed to find affordable things unless you have a lot of money. The food options are awful and I mean really awful. Parking is okay but parking close to what you need is nearly impossible. And my older thoughts were that the Crossgates Mall is not my favourite, in fact I really don't like it. It's kind of fancy and new looking on the inside, but oh my god it is so damn big. Walking from one end to the other takes about 27 years. Looking for the food court was a total challenge. I didn't really enjoy anything, and one of the bubble tea options is awful, while the other one was kind of mediocre. It has a lot of the same old same old sh** in it. And when you come here on a Saturday night you hope to see a lot of sexy people wearing sexy outfits. I don't think I saw a single sexy outfit and it certainly wasn't as spectacular as hanging out at Syracuse University earlier in the day which took my breath away I like the mall for people watching but not for food, not really for shopping, and overall I have mixed feelings. I mean when I brought Barbie here we spent a good 7 hours wandering around it, so that was good, but that doesn't mean we loved it. read more

Now that I live much closer to Crossgates, and I'm here more often, I feel that the overall quality of the mall has gone up quite a bit from my initial review. The interior has a much better feel to it. There are fewer empty stores in the mall these days. While there's still not that many in which I would regularly shop, there are several now of interest to me. And the quality of both the food court and the mall restaurants has gone up. The parking lot can still be a nuisance, particularly in front of Best Buy, still with the one-way traffic, angled parking spots, and "1 star drivers." But theses days, it's a decent place to shop and dine. read more

Crossgates Mall - Shopping Centers Near Me - Albany, New York

Since my last review of Crossgates, the entire idea of what a mall should be has changed. More and more, people are buying stuff online. Malls have become more about buying experiences. Now granted, I'm old. And I legit hate buying stuff online. Especially shoes. Plus, when my kids need clothes, they usually need them immediately, so I am one of those rare birds who will actually trek down to the mall to still buy stuff. For experiences? Crossgates has got you. Gone are just the days of the movie theater. Yes, there is still a grand movie palace anchoring one end of the mall. But there is also a comedy club, concert venue, bowling alley, full-service day spa, crazy game room, immersive escape room style place, and more. The restaurants are large and in charge with the all you can eat Brazilian steakhouse being the most ostentatious of the bunch. World of Beer is a close second with its impossibly long list of beers on tap and in single serve vessels. But the eating options go far beyond the food court. And the best bubble tea shop in the Capital Region also has a spot there. Short & Stout also specializes in matcha, so you can have your choice of matcha powders at the bar inside this tea shop. The entire mall has quick and free wifi, so if you work remotely, you can make Crossgates your office. That way, in between emails you can also get a walk in. Plus if you work on a mac, the Apple store is like your IT department down the hall. This past winter the mall even played host to a cask beer festival in the parking lot adjacent to its new hotels. Yes, the mall has hotels. And plenty of parking. And easy access from multiple entrances. Look, I'm a mall guy. I grew up going to malls. I like walking around and doing some people watching. I can totally get down with having a beer then going to play some air hockey, and mellowing out with a comedy act. Which isn't to say that I've taken full advantage of all the shops in Crossgates. I haven't. One of these days I'll try the bowling at Lucky Strike or see a comedian, or catch a live music act. But the thing that holds me back isn't the venue, it's just the business of my life. If I could figure out how to have more time in my days, you can bet I'd spend more of it at Crossgates. Heck, I've been trying to take a spa day for months, but to no avail. I just want to take a yoga glass, enjoy a glass of wine, take a dip in the hot tub, and spend some time with a good book in the aqua terrace. It shouldn't be so hard. But that's not the mall's fault, that's mine. read more

The mall is okay, but so many stores have closed I'm guessing because of the pandemic. The mall is clean, it's efficient, the signage is great, and the maps are helpful. I feel like it is not the same since Lord and Taylor left as well as a couple of the other stores. it's hard to find things that you really like in the area of clothing especially women's clothing I hope that the owners are looking at bringing in some more diverse stores. I wasn't sure what to expect from this mall, coming from some of the largest malls in NYC and Long Island, but we decided to take a walk over and experience what, from the outside, looked like a decent mall. Apparently from what I gathered this mall is the largest mall in Albany. It's a two-floor mall fairly large in space that also housed a movie theatre. All the traditional stores you would typically find in a mall. I found the mall to be exceptionally clean. I enjoyed my time shopping. I would defintley recommend this mall to anyone who's looking to shop with calmness without the hassle of larger malls. read more

I was here with my wife on a Tuesday evening recently and many of the stores were closed. I understand why the movie theater, and some of the restaurants and bars and entertainment centers were closed... likely due to Covid. But, many of the clothing stores were closed or in the process of closing up at 7PM on a Tuesday night less than a month before Christmas. As we walked around, I saw at least 10 places with their lights out and the security bars covering the entranceway, and there were another couple that we saw shutting down as we walked by. When we asked a nearby security officer about this, he said that "it had been pretty slow today" and that "the mall is open until 9:30PM." I get that we are in the middle of a pandemic, and at times business might be slow. But closing 2-3 hours early when the doors to the mall are open doesn't seem reasonable. We went to see a comedy show on a Sunday afternoon at Funnybone. We left around 530-600. Coming out of the Funnybone, we were met by several young, (maybe 8-9 year old kids steering small ride-on motorized vehicles among the crowd in the common area where people were walking! I find this to be VERY dangerous. I am over 60...I use a walker. If I had been knocked into by one of these vehicles, I could have been seriously injured. I know I'm not alone in this. Unsupervised children should not be allowed to operate motorized vehicles in the common area of a crowded mall. read more

Showed up randomly to this mall. It wasn't in our itinerary, but sometimes the best decisions are those that are unplanned. In this case, my boyfriend's stepsister and her husband took us there as there's a bowling alley present. While we ultimately didn't end up bowling as the lines were tediously long given empty stomachs, we did eat dinner there. We split up and went to Johnny Rockets and World of Beer respectively. Both restaurants were hits, and overall, the food scene is quite diverse. From The Melting Pot and Texas de Brazil to your everyday Starbucks and even a place that sells edible cookie dough, I was stunned to see all the choices available. In terms of entertainment, besides the bowling alley, they have a movie theater, a couple of adventure and escape rooms, and even a high-end spa. Wow! The mall has two floors and parking is abundant even during the Christmas holidays. I expected it to be full of people, of agitated last-minute shoppers and that wasn't the case at all. For shopping, you have anchor stores like JCPenney and Sears but no Nordstrom or Saks 5th Avenue. Seems to be a mall that is affordable and for the masses. I think the Colonie Center Mall has the more luxurious items. At any rate, given the area, the mall was awe striking. I didn't expect to see such a large mall in Albany. More so, one so near to a second mall. Somewhere else this wouldn't work, but in this city, it suits everyone well. read more

Parking can be tough at times but there are so many parking lots that if you try to park at an area closer to perhaps where you're looking for then you can park easier. It has a movie theater, food court, and a lot of standalone restaurants spread out throughout the mall. It has quite a number of both big box stores and small, unique shops. It is a very large mall in terms of square footage, one of the largest on the Eastern Seaboard. read more

I grew up in the Capital District and this was always THE mall to come to. I'm old enough to remember the mall before the expansion 20+ years ago. I used to go to the movie theater wayyy back when it was up on the third floor! It's safe to say this mall has grown quite a bit over the years. I moved away from the Capital Region to SF, LA & South Florida. I was curious to see how the mall would compare to the other "fancy" malls I have visited in these larger population density areas. Crossgates is a more mid-range mall, you don't have the higher end stores (Nordstrom, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co) that you would find in more affluent areas like the NYC metropolitan area. That's ok with me, just pointing this out. I noticed a LOT of new businesses in this mall such as 5 Wits, Dave & Busters, Vera Bradley, the fancy bowling alley and a few others. I was really impressed that the mall had little vacancy. I'm not sure if the mall has had a face lift since I moved, but it was all very bright and clean. The tile flooring looks newer, but that might have been there when I left. The food court looked a bit smaller than I remember it. Luckily the mall still has a good amount of sit down restaurants, Unos Pizzeria & Grill is still my favorite. There is a large movie theater down near Macy's. CVS isn't too far from the movie theater incase you want to sneak some treats in your coat pocket. I visited mid-day and spent some time on the wifi. I thought the internet connection and speed was the best down by JC Penny. read more

I needed some spirit gum for Halloween and was at the mall, and it occurred to me maybe I could find it here. Score! My iPhone tells me "Capital Costume" shop is located not far from where I am standing. Now the fun begins. It's hard to find a mall directory... the signs only list the big stores, and many of the kiosks that used to have directories have sold the space for ads. Ah, here we go... Capital Costume is at 212 and I'm at a shop the directory says is 119 so seems like a simple matter to go up the stairs and it should be right there.. But up top, Capital Costume is nowhere in sight. And none of the numbers appear on the storefronts so it's not possible to look it up by address. I resort to wandering and finally, Capital Costume is way down by Best Buy at the other end of the mall. Go figure. I enter and, three days before Halloween, their spirit gum supply has not yet come in. Fail. The management needs to give Crossgates Mall some love. The foot traffic is not bad for the times but there are a lot of boarded up shops with very little attempt made to look like anything other than empty eye sockets. And the signage, or lack thereof, is pitiful. A major escalator is shut down in the middle of the mall. Would it kill management to put up a couple of signs pointing to an alternate way to get where you're going? I took a picture of a customer service booth, but it is empty... "coming soon." The only large mall in the Albany area. So many events taken place at the mall. There was a fire drill that went off the last time I visited the mall in June. We thought it was an active fire from the cafeteria. People were walking normal pace and continue on shopping. The crossgates security team should have announced it was a drill not an active fire for those customers worried about being trapped at the mall during a fire. read more

The perfume center .... There are 2 locations in crossgates mall, one upstairs and one downstairs across from the cinema. My daughter was sold the wrong perfume after showing a picture of the one she wanted. It was a Christmas present. She purchased before Christmas. They're return policy is 7 days, which ok I get, but not when it's a gift and it was bought BEFORE the holiday. Had the receipt for it...and you can clearly see it was unused. They would not do a single thing for her. So now she's out of 65 bucks and the wrong perfume. The owner has HORRIBLE customer service and that place is ridiculously overpriced. I was in the area and need to kill some time so decided to stop by the mall. The gps brought me here. First, I noticed buses stops right in front of mall. There's hubs and people were waiting for their bus rides. There stores like Dick's, Macy's, JC Penny, Five and Below, etc., and some restaurant and diner eateries. I do noticed that this mall is small but does have some decent stores. They also have Dave and Busters and kids and adults love swarming at this place. I can't help but to find myself entering it as well. Lol. I love the pet store. It's dangerous for me to walk in and not wanting to leave out with a puppy. Advising all parents who do not want to have dog pets, do not come inside with your kids because they would whine and make you feel horrible not getting a puppy! Bathrooms are done a long hallway, and it smells like feces all the way to the bathroom. Once you get into the bathroom, it's a very strong smell of urine. At least there is no paper. The stars are very small. read more

It's a standard larger size retreaded mall. You will go or not go here no matter what I write here, so I will write about the Birds of Mall Island. Mall Island is a curious feature, created by the curiously encompassing nature of Crossgatania, surrounded as it is by the River of Concrete and the Northway Ocean. In this curious habitat, munching on a snack in the food court, my son and I observed several families of birds that had taken up residence indoors, under the glass. Obviously the isolation of being on Mall Island had generated natural selection, resulting in the curious species foodcourtus avianensis, or the Common Shopperbill. The birds have cleverly adapted to exploit a new niche, which is the simply enormous amount of spilled food on the floor. We observed them carefully wait for a gap in the foot traffic to swoop and pounce on spilled tidbits ahead of the clean-up guys, and return to what we could hear were chirping chicks, unseen, high above the seating area. Not having Sir David Attenborough on speed dial, we are left to wonder about the lifecycle of these clever creatures. Do they live year round? How do they escape being cleaned out by the maintenance staff? How many generations of Mall Birds have lived here? Where's all the bird poop? On future visits, perhaps some of these mysteries will be resolved. In the meantime, our initial visit to Crossgatania and the curiosities of Mall Island has been accomplished, and thus we are now one with the native environment of the Capital Region. read more

This a very large mall. The food court was very large and had plenty of seating to accommodate a lot of people. I also like the fact that there were plenty of seats all around the mall. There were lots of places that offered free Wi-Fi with convenient seating right in those Wi-Fi Hotspot zones all throughout the mall. I loved the variety of stores. The fact that there was a Best Buy in the mall was a Plus. A mall with a Best Buy inside will be very successful for a very long time. Technology is king. read more

This place is enormous especially after the expansion! They have tried to remake "The Mall" as a destination with a themed spy bars complete with fake guns and real martini's, adventure spaces (5Wits), an Apple store, a huge IMAX multiplex, a comedy club, a live music/sports bar venue, BEERWORLD and one of my fave CCR (cheesy chain restaurant) Johnny Rockets! You'll also find mall stalwarts Kay Jewlers, Spencer's, Orange Julius and at least 17 cell phone case kiosks. And it is surprisingly clean! But most of all what you'll find here is high prices, what killed malls in the first place. The only place that is affordable is Burlington-you know the old Coat Factory- and that place is a mess, literally. Oh well, it's a nice place to visit but I'm not gonna live there, not like I did when I was a kid. read more

This is a great place to browse and it is HUGE. I don't think there's much you could not find in the mall and the stores on Washington Ave Extension. Crossgates also holds a special place in my heart because I was there in 1985 or 1986 on its opening day when I was just a wee child. It's one of my earliest memories. Perhaps that's why I love shopping so much. :) I tend to go here a lot but not buy much. Damn NYS and the evil 8% sales tax. In Massachusetts we have no tax on clothes, so I buy in my home state. I like Crossgates Mall because it is one of those urban gathering places that exist because of consumerism and portray what is wrong and why people are closing down independent businesses. If you take that out of your mind and you want to comfortable while shopping during one of those upstate NY snow falls, this is the place to be. It is readily accessible by bus from most of the city, where people ride buses and has a wide variety of shops. They have the typical selection for a middle class shopping, you should be able to find all you need in here including a gym and a movie theater with separate entrance. There is a shuttle bus that goes to near by wal-mart also. I have visited this mall so many times and wish to visit many more times. read more

This mall was pretty nice and had a Zara's and Dave & Buster's Arcade! They also have boba tea near their food court. I went here to go to 5-Wits and I had a great time. The 5-Wits here doesn't have as many rooms as the Syracuse one (3 compared to 5). The only store here that concerned me was the puppy store. I've never seen puppies sold at the mall before. For some reason, you're not allowed to take photos of the dogs in their kennels. They had an ad saying why you should "shop for a dog" instead of adopt. I felt anxious seeing all those dogs in the small kennels and wondered where they came from and how often they get taken out to walk. It isn't the best mall I have been to but it isn't the worst either. There is plenty of parking and the mall is pretty long with some branches. They have a bowling alley here and a high-end spa as well. Their larger department stores include Macy's, Lord & Taylor and JC Penny. I liked that the mall was bright inside because of the sky lighting. read more
