So happy I found this spin studio close to me. Having tried numerous spin classes in the city I…read morejust find some of the classes with super loud music and dark rooms with neon lights a little too excessive (and expensive). I just wanted to find a basic studio where I can get a good workout without losing my hearing, and actually be able to focus the quality of my workout. The staff here are friendly and the classes are small and never too crowded. Keep in mind this is definitely more of a laidback studio for that person who wants to go in for a class and be out within 50 min. Definitely good for first-timers as well as the instructor and staff take their time to make sure you are set up correctly on your bike, and they will also provide you with cycling shoes as well if required! What I love the most about this studio is that it is basic but has everything you need to have a non-intimidating, positive, non cult-like class experience. Also, being situated away from downtown means you get tons of free parking on the street, and never have to arrive half an hour early just to get a bike. I love supporting local small businesses and am really happy that this quality spin studio is so close to me! They also offer your first class for free - great way to try it out without purchasing a 2 week pass or paying a drop in rate. Class rates are extremely affordable (they have a groupon deal for 5 classes) and they offer $10 drop in rates for Tuesday's and Thursday's evenings, and you can easily book on the MINDBODY app.

I've also had several personal training sessions with them and found the training to be excellent. I would recommend the place to my friends, it's great. Side Note: The CBC is running a show called "Village On A Diet" and Mike Veinot, one of the owners at Rep1, is one of the main trainers on the show. Sort of fun, if you want a celebrity trainer, Mike is the guy to ask for :)

Cammie leads the class, and it's a perfect introduction to a structured environment, tailored to the readiness of toddlers. First is 25 minutes of supervised open play (parents/caregivers stay with the children), then a few minutes at a supervised, structured art project at the art table (e.g. painting, or gluing leaves on a tree-shaped paper - n.b. this age group needs a lot of help with gluing). After art, everyone washes hands and heads to the circle area for bubbles (way to motivate toddlers to assemble somewhere!) and circle time with a very very short story, then some puppet-singing games, and ring-around-the-rosie and good-bye. The child I bring is just 15 months old, and he enjoys watching the other children, as well as playing with the toys & equipment. He obviously needs active management in his interactions due to his age, but he seems to benefit from the opportunity to play with other toddlers, and he's certainly tired out for his nap after a morning at Little Friends. Coaches know their shit but more importantly (which is not very common) they are very hands on and not just posting a workout for you to follow. I mostly did their weightlifting program.

But there was a guy Richard who seems to have some sort of personality disorder (sometimes super sweet and kind and then switches to a sort of psyhcho bully persona). Overall its a good facility, but they should vet the trainers a bit better for social skills.

I liked it so much that I bought the 10-class pass directly from them instead of using the classpass. The class sizes are small, non-intimidating but quite challenging, everyone I've met has been friendly, and the facility is clean. You can tell from the way the trainers interact with each other at the gym that they have a good culture here. They provide all the equipment and mats here at no extra cost. I've seen other gyms that don't provide mats at all so everyone just sits and stretches on the dirty floor and it grosses me out. I've attended Kettlebell Scuplt, Triple C, and HIIT classes so far with Klaudia E. and Michelle A., and they are all fantastic! I walk away feeling sore in a really good way, and I feel stronger and notice my body looking a bit more toned. I'm looking forward to my next class!

This gym is unequivocally the worst fitness experience in the lower mainland. Equipment is…read moreregularly taken over by personal trainers. In fact, several times throughout the week, at peak periods FW staff trainers hold classes that uses the entire gym making it impossible to train independently. There's only one set of pretty much any equipment which means your often waiting for weights and benches. The washrooms are never cleaned and often in disrepair. Equipment is rarely wiped down by members even if FW actually filled the hygiene stations. It's disgusting. More importantly, it is not a safe space and there's no staff on site if aggressive individuals are present. People regularly fob in large unpaying groups. When asked about this, FW says "there's nothing we can do". You're better off doing pushups in your living room.

After reading more about the benefits of regular weight training, I started researching fitness facilities in Vancouver, and Iron Lab intrigued me the most. Martin, the founder of Iron Lab, reached out quickly to schedule a virtual consultation, and I immediately liked him. He took the time to educate me on the benefits of weight training, set realistic goals, and never made the call feel "salesy." It was obvious that Martin genuinely cares. Martin then introduced me to one of his personal trainers, Grady. Straight to the point: Grady changed my life. I am physically stronger, I eat better, I sleep better, and I've received multiple compliments from friends stating that I look better. Grady is extremely knowledgeable in exercise science, program design, and nutrition, and every time we meet for our 1:1 sessions, he teaches me something new. Again, I've always been a group-class gal; however, incorporating regular 1:1 sessions with a phenomenal trainer has taken my fitness regimen to an entirely different level.
