The coaching was good and classes small enough for plenty of individual attention. The WODS were challenging as well, and friendly classmates. The facilities are basic, and they get pretty stuffy and warm because of the arch housing and the neighbors dont want the doors open- this made it a bit harder on me to be effective. Equipment was decent given the moisture the bars are showing some age. I'll certainly be there again! Nice that they have showers (Bring your towel and soap).

I know the locker area and bathrooms will always be clean and that at 6:30 am I won't have to fight to use the equipment I like. At times they don't have the hydro-water I want, I find that irritating. What really gets me mad are people who don't put their free weights back where they belong, and there is a bit of that. But neither complaint is enough to make me quit and find another gym, that's because overall it's a good gym and they've got Gemma B.! To mix it up I do attend classes and work out with a trainer. If you are looking for a class or trainer that will totally work you, go to Gemma B. She is an excellent one to one trainer, the next day I'm sore but when I work with her I get results. She also teaches a couple of classes. Gemma is by far the best spinning instructor I have ever had. Other spinning classes I've taken, I really push myself and by the end I am sweating a bit, but not too badly. With Gemma's spinning class it's non-stop motion and by the end I am not only DRIPPING with sweat, my legs feel like they are going to fall off, now that's what I call a spinning class.

He's a really great guy, chatty funny and he knows his stuff when it come to sports injury. The price is £50 for a consultation and treatment. Then £50 per session after that. Each session last 45 minutes. I had been to a few other places before hand and was appalled by the lack of customer service and disinterest by the physio's. However Joe is a great guy and I can recommend his services! Personally I would not go Fitness First Gym ever, I use H2 Bike Run in Soho, Its Amazing! Read my review for more info on that! ;-)

In fact, I've not had a bad experience here yet: the staff is always very friendly and forthcoming (especially the cleaning team deserves some kudos here!) and the classes they offer are great, including the instructors. In fact, I've mostly come to the gym to attend the Ashtanga Yoga during the lunch hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Rachel, the instructor, is great: she's not one of these airy-fairy yoga instructors, who only babbles about spirituality etc. In fact, her approach is two-fold: she wants to teach us the right poses, but at the same time she wants us to understand the meaning behind of it! (It's all about the breathing technique!!!) Anyway, I would highly recommend joining this gym if you either live and/or work around the Barbican area...it's always good to come here and get a little break from the daily grind...

I've been a member of Virgin Active gyms since I moved to…read moreLondon, but there's something about the quality of instructors that come to this location as well as the Islington location that are really worth mentioning. If you have the chance, here are some instructors that are worth following: Rachel's Ashtanga Yoga Class: Rachel does not mess about, so this isn't your 'come and relax for an hour' situation - this is a sweating, pushing, breathing, challenging workout that I never would have expected from a yoga class. If you're not doing anything else correctly, you'll be breathing. Tony's Box Fit, Circuit, Boot Camp and Power Station Classes: If feeling the burn is anywhere on your agenda, attend one of Tony's classes. Come focused and come prepared (sweat towel close at hand) because he is relentless. And awesome. Peter's Spin Class: The perfect soundtrack, the most amazing intervals and even a 5-minute section in the middle where you're able to do your own thing. (Hills? Sprint? Intervals? Riders choice!) I love it. If you do attend a class from one of the instructors above, make sure you get to the gym early. They will all fill up quickly.

Do you like to engage in exercise-exhibitionism?…read more Then you'll really like Tim Hayes Fitness, as the training takes place in the open...in fact, you can choose in which of the many beautiful London parks you can actually work out. And I take advantage of this opportunity quite a lot: living in North London I have so far had training sessions in on the Heath, at Waterlow Park, at Whittington Park...and the most unusual, but also a quite effective location was the grand staircase leading up to the Arsenal Stadium. When I first wanted to sign up, I spoke with Tim Hayes about my goals, my motivations and my availability. He then set me up with Mustafa, one of the trainers in North London, and soon after I met up with Mustafa for a coffee/tea to discuss my needs. I right away had a good feeling about Mustafa and signed up here and there...my first session was the following weekend. The first and all the subsequent sessions have been spot on ever since. Mustafa is a really nice guy and he's making you work really hard - which is good, because after all it's winter right now and you better work up a sweat, or else you'd be freezing. Also, Mustafa was/is a professional boxer and so he sometimes incorporates boxing into his sessions. To be honest, I'd never watched a boxing game in my life, but I'm liking this a lot. It made me realise how intense this sport actually is and how much of it is actually good technique, as opposed to strength (as with most sports!). Aside from the occasional Kettlebells or medicine balls, the training is mostly body weight training, which is what I wanted. (So don't sign up for this, if you want to beef up!) So, expect to do a lot of lunges, squats, press-ups and crunches...or any kind of variations on these. In fact, I find it amazing, as to how many different exercises there are - I believe we've not yet done the same exercise twice! The other thing that I really about Tim Hayes Training is that you can bring a buddy for free...which is exactly what I do. Usually, my neighbour Dan and I meet Mustafa on a Sunday morning and we let him torture us.

For once you can jog there, as the roads in Fulham are not overcrowded and there is even a Park near Fulham Palace Road, where you can do your warm up when the sun is out! Through the Fulham & Hammersmith library I was able to get a discount pass as a resident which only cost me a couple of pounds when joining a class and the lowest member ship rate I have researched so far for any gym in London. Lillie Road has an energetic team of instructors who know you by your name after a while. I booked an appointment with a German instructor, who took my inquiry very serious: getting back on track again. As at this point I had serious back problems. With an gym program tailor-made for me I conquered the gym and diligently made my exercises. Getting bored by this after a while, I went back and asked for more exercises. Which was not a problem. I also started to join the yoga classes, I have to say there were different types of instructors, one even lighted candles and made us hum in the relaxation phase. I could not hold it together and burst into laughter. So please do please ask which day of yoga lesson is the best for you. Also there is a crèche available for little children.
