On a scale, I am usually a 4 on the pep, she was an 11, frankly impressive. I made the comment to the manager, not Jenna. The manager responded by disclosing inappropriate information about this employees personal history. I had not thought about this interaction again since leaving. This morning, I received a threatening message via social media from the manager, Chris(I think his name is). As a person of color and a female, I feel scared for the future customers of this business.

When I was 27 I moved to the Bay Area, I stopped everything I had been doing in terms of health and fitness. I gained so much weight and depression. I kept seeing Jeff's posts on Facebook or IG. But then I had had a baby at 29 years old, so I didn't accept the 6-week challenge. In November 2021 at 32 I decided this was the place for me. Small group classes - cardio and strength. Focus on health and not weight. JOINING THIS GYM WAS THE BEST DECISION I'VE MADE FOR MYSELF. I went from being a kick-boxing, gym rat - thinking I would never not be that. To being someone who wasn't in the gym for six years. I had one meet with Jeff. He let me try it out, and held me accountable. Almost three years later - this is my community. I love Jeff and his family, and the people who work out here. My mindset has changed, and my STRENGTH has changed. I can do things at 35 that I couldn't do at 25-32. John logan is patient , knowledgeable and doesn't waste any time . He puts together a program and is ready to go before you even walk into the door. I immediately saw results; lost that covid weight and strengthened my core to better support my lower back. About a year ago I started training at a local gym to get stronger for dance. I struggled with figuring out what to do at the gym. I sort of just bounced between machines with no focus. It wasn't efficient and I was struggling to see results. The only times I ever got a great workout in, is when I worked with a trainer. Working with a trainer is great, but can be very pricey. Long story short, I've heard of CrossFit many times and was always intrigued. I knew that CrossFit provided a "workout of the day". This is what I wanted. I was tired of guessing what I should do at the gym. I love that I can show up, do the scheduled workout, feel great, and go home. CrossFit may seem expensive, but it is a great value. You always have a coach there to help you with your form, and the workouts are planned. It's basically the same as working with a trainer, but you're in a class environment, which is very motivating. So I decided to go and try a class at Sonoma Strength Academy. I was pretty nervous, it seemed very intimidating. The owner Beejan (who is extremely helpful) reached out to me and encouraged me to try a class. He found out I was a nurse and informed me that they offer a great discount for nurses! After just one class, it was obvious that this place is extremely welcoming to new people. It was also clear that all fitness levels are welcome. Every workout can be scaled. So literally anyone can do the daily workouts. The coaches will show you the modifications that you can do. The head coach Chuck encouraged me to take "on-ramp" classes with him (which I recommend doing). Taking these classes helped me learn the basic foundational movements of CrossFit. I was able to feel more confident when I joined regular classes. Chuck is a fantastic coach who has helped me tremendously since I've started (and he has great taste in music). You can tell he cares about the members and their progress. The other coach I've worked with since starting is Jessica, she's so amazingly helpful. She's very encouraging to new people (such as myself) and has also given me great tips about recovery at home. You can tell she's passionate about being a coach. The location is a great and the gym is huge. Right now during the pandemic, the workouts are being performed outside. Which has been going smoothly (I actually really love exercising outside). I heard that they have plans to move their already large gym, into an even larger building right next door. Also- there is plenty of parking here, which is very convenient. The gym has new owners, and it appears that they are putting their heart and soul into making improvements to this establishment. I have not been a member for long, but I can tell this CrossFit gym is going places. Every class I attend I leave I feeling stronger. The people who attend this gym are friendly and welcoming. There is a real sense of camaraderie and community. I'm glad I found this place! I plan on sticking around for many years to come.

I found my new box!…read more I have been doing CrossFit for about 2 years. I left my other box due to disagreements on the training and programming. I took 6 months off while doing the traditional gym route. After missing the rush and encouragement I got from CrossFit, I decided to find another family that fit my goals and style. I tried a couple of others before I found Sonoma Strength Academy. They are adequately equipped and the size is large enough to allow the classes to have enough room to not be on top of each other. It is relatively clean and the training is great. I love the evening class times and the price was the least expensive in Santa Rosa for 3 times a week. Chuck does a great job making you feel welcome and coaching you through the workouts. He will correct your form and give you tips to be more efficient. The workouts include strength, cardio, and agility and he throws in mobility work also. It is fun and challenging every time I go. Unless something changes, I have found my long term, workout family.

Don't expect any extras...there are no frills such as q-tips, shower towels, shaving creme, or blow dryers. It's very bare bones and the conditioner isn't good. The lockers look dirty inside (some I avoid), but everything else is clean and I do feel comfortable showering there. I'm going to try out the hot tub and sauna this evening... they look inviting.

The only downside is they hold a lot of competitions and award ceremonies in the large gym, so if you want to play basketball you need to check in advance.

Trained with Alex for 9 months after an old back injury returned with a vengeance. First 3 months…read morewere in conjunction with a physical therapist (2nd PT after a year of disappointing experiences with Kaiser). He knew exactly what to do to build my core, protect my injury and gain strength and fitness. Some of his exercises were exactly what the physical therapist had me do, but he also had his own that took me even further than physical therapy. My back position is key to therapy and exercising without injury - Alex had laser vision to make sure I didn't deviate. I'm now stronger than ever, working out regularly and more importantly, living without pain. My only regret is that I didn't find Alex sooner after my injury recurrence (or better yet, prior to the recurrence). BTW, I've had multiple trainers in different cities over the years - nobody has come close to Alex's expertise. Icing on the cake is he is funny, smart and a real pleasure to spend time with. Highly recommend!
