I attended this facility in support of a colleague from ODU...Amy!!!…read more She is the dance/fitness instructor here, well perhaps one of many, but she is awesome! She invited me to drop in for a class to learn the latest and most popular line dances! She knows I love to dance, hence that's how we met... at ODU :) say less girl, I am there!! I visited the site a few weeks ago (on a Saturday) and from the looks of the parking lot, I thought it would be crowded inside. Boy was I wrong, the place is awesome inside! It was not crowded at all. The women's locker room was tidy and smelled fresh. Once I arrived upstairs to the dance room, I did notice workout (machines) equipment as well as free weights. Something for everyone is here! The dance class lasted for about 75 minutes, and it was a total workout! Beginner friendly and Amy makes everyone feel super comfortable and is willing to repeat steps over and over and over :) I didn't think I would work up a sweat doing line dancing, but it was a sweaty ordeal indeed - I loved it! I highly recommend you check out this location. I traveled from Suffolk, therefore it's definitely a hike, but on this day I was planning to be in the area, so it made sense to drop in. You cannot beat this waterfront property. Not a member, like me, just pay a drop in fee and get your body moving :) Have fun and enjoy life :)

I really love this gym. It's friendly the classes are great. I go whenever I'm out at the beach.read more

There is an abundance of gym equipment, weights, space, etc. Surprised to also see so many bumper plates and squat racks! They even have a cinema room to watch something while you work out. The gym requires you to leave your bags in the locker room, normally I carry around some equipment in my bag to help with my workouts but I feel, you don't have to worry about not finding what you need. People seemed respectful of the gym and put things back where they belong. Not sure if it's always like this but I went on thanksgiving day. We used our family's guest pass to get in. We asked about day passes and they said $10/visit. Side notes: there was a children's play area for people who needs a babysitter while they get active. Saw multiple bathing suit dryers in the women's locker room, ample dressing stalls/bathrooms, showers, etc and super clean!

A little boy who was bigger than my daughter was allowed to tell her where to go and try to direct her against her will. The employee present did not correct the situation or ensure my child felt safe. As a parent, that was extremely unsettling. Staff should be paying attention and stepping in when one child is trying to control or push another child around. Allowing that kind of situation to continue without intervention creates an unsafe environment. On top of that, after I cancelled my subscription and informed them that I was cancelling, they still charged me for an additional month. Being billed after cancelling is unacceptable. Between the unsafe situation involving my child and being charged after cancelling, I cannot recommend this business. Parents should be cautious.

I have absolutely loved every experience I have had in the studio or practicing with one of their instructors at an event in the community. Most of my physical activity involves running and I am definitely not anywhere close to an advanced yogi. I enjoy it for the stretch and the gift of just being able to be somewhere totally in the moment without distractions. It really is a gift to myself that I don't give nearly enough. If I had time to add another activity onto my weekly schedule, I wouldn't hesitate to be a member. Thankfully, their drop-in process is easy and the ability to buy class packs makes it easy to come in whenever my schedule allows. I never feel like an "outsider" when I drop in, a vibe I have gotten from other studios. Peyton and Ann have been my favorite go-to instructors, but everyone has been wonderful in their own unique teaching style. I personally like a little humor in my yoga. They have so many varieties of classes for all levels of student. One day maybe I'll get adventurous and branch away from yin, restorative, foundations, and yoga for athletes classes. For now, that's where you will find me though- each class helps during a different point in my training cycle & year. This studio has a full bathroom with showers. They also already have everything you need to practice including straps, blocks, blankets, towels, and bolsters. They also have a handful of mats to borrow if you forgot one or are just giving yoga a try for the first time. When you enter the studio you first check in with the desk before putting your belongings in the cubbies directly across from the desk. The receptionists have always been friendly and helpful. There are three rooms, it is helpful to go ahead and ask which one your class will be in when you check in. They usually assume you already know- which maybe I should for some of the classes I've taken a few times. I still like to ask! This studio offers a huge variety of classes and class times. They have been perfect for a casual novice person like myself; but they also offer instructor training and advanced workshops. They have kids classes, barre classes, pilates, and probably a few others that I don't even know about! I've checked out a few other studios just to compare and this checks all the boxes and just feels like home every time I drop in for a class.

I was a memeber during two years, but then covid came into our lifes... I can only say good things about Studio Bamboo. They are very friendly and welcome, there is a lovely environment and teachers are the Best. I loved Sammi Multiflow Saturday morning classes, they are so perfect for awaeking (music was included). Katarina sessions were deep and introspective, she used to work with breaths and sounds. The place is very nice and 10/10 clean. Changing rooms, restrooms, classes were always impeccable. It might help that everyone might leave the shoes in the entrance. They have material in case you needed it. They use to offer matts, blocks, straps, etc. but at the end if you are going frequently you will bring your own matt. I just want to thank you, every class I took was different and perfect. Such and interior and exterior development.

A wonderful benefit of my Medicare Supplemental plan is free access to lots of gyms, including the Rec Centers. So I get free cards without having to pay the city resident's annual fee. Recently my use has been limited to watching from the bleachers while my son & grandson swim. Also I love early voting at the Rec Center. In my earlier pre knee replacement days & before retiring I would walk to the Rec Center to both swim & use the machines in the work out room. The pool is great for water walking & other non impact exercises that I learned in a pre knee surgery physical therapy program at another facility. The machines in the weight room were also knee strengthening learned from previous Physical Therapy. Because of the swim teams & classes offered I learned the best time for the pool was when the Rec Center first opened for the day. There were always tons of people waiting for the door to open. The crowd mainly consisted of seniors who would go to the pool every day or do gym walking decked out in fashionable sweatsuits, probably widows or widowers trying to attract a new spouse. The Senior crew that chose the pool didn't interfere with any of my exercises. There was a group who spent their time in a circle treading water & gossiping. Since I knew a few I was invited to join, which I did from time to time. Those sessions provided me with all the scoop on everything happening In Bayside at the time. The crowd left when classes began, which gave me time to get home & ready for work. The weight room is well stocked with equipment on which one had to do a short training session before using. The early crowd there consisted of buff guys who wanted to work out before work. The Rec Center consists of much, much more. There are a plethora of classes ranging from Crafting to Yoga & Pilates, which I really should take advantage of. Workout groups are offered. There is a racquet ball court that seems very popular. Adjacent is a disc golf center. The very large indoor pool offers an open area, swimming lanes, diving section & much, much more. I wish it had built when my son was young & was on a nearby Bayside neighborhood swim team. The bleachers & lounging area outside the pool window wall offer a great view for parents to watch. It's such a wonderful facility to be in the neighborhood. Thank you Virginia Parks & Recreation.
