Unfortunately, over the last year or so, I've found myself noticing more downs than ups. When I first joined, the facility had more of a country-club feel. It felt clean, well-maintained, and like you were getting something a little above your average gym experience. Lately, that feeling has really faded. The facility often feels crowded, and in general, it feels like it could use a really thorough cleaning and some TLC. Even the outdoor lap pools have started to have a noticeable sweaty/chlorine-type smell, which is particularly unpleasant when you're there specifically to swim laps. The pool has always been one of the biggest reasons I've stayed a member, and there are still things I genuinely enjoy about it. However, the summer months can be frustrating because a significant number of lap lanes are used for summer camps and recreational swimming. That's understandable, but it can mean waiting for a lane, and not everyone is comfortable with or willing to share lanes. It can make what should be a fairly straightforward workout unnecessarily awkward. I've also never really felt particularly welcomed or comfortable in most of the group fitness classes. Yoga and several of the other classes just never felt like they were a great fit for me. The exception is the spin classes. Those have consistently been well done, welcoming, challenging without being unreasonable, and good at accommodating different fitness levels. Those are probably the classes I would specifically recommend. The overall atmosphere is also very family-focused, which is certainly not a bad thing, but it contributes to the facility feeling busy and crowded at times. Over time, I found that the atmosphere just wasn't what I was looking for in a gym. The food situation is mixed. I wasn't particularly impressed with most of the regular food offerings and thought many of the items were overpriced, although the smoothies were consistently good and reasonably priced. The poolside food available during the summer is actually one of the highlights -- good casual/snacky food that works well when you're spending time at the pool. Customer service has also been inconsistent and, at times, lacking. For a facility positioned as a higher-end fitness center, I expected a more consistently attentive level of service. Another disappointment has been the locker rooms. I understand there are logistical/plumbing reasons why the women's locker room renovations haven't happened while the men's locker rooms have been updated, and I can appreciate that there may be legitimate constraints. But as a female member, it's still disappointing to see one side receive significant updates while the other remains in need of attention. Ultimately, I don't regret being a member for several years. There were things I genuinely enjoyed, especially the pools, certain spin instructors/classes, smoothies, and the overall convenience of having so many amenities in one place. But I think the facility has lost some of the polish and atmosphere that initially made the membership feel worthwhile. After several years, I found myself feeling more frustrated than impressed, which ultimately led me to decide it was time to move on.

If you want to get in incredible shape, this is the gym to go to…read more I used to lift here back when it was GeauxFit 3 years ago, and was "eh" at CrossFit, but I loved the hour workouts since it's do-able on any schedule. I moved away with work and got into powerlifting, but when I had to come back to New Orleans for 2 weeks and needed a gym, I decided to check it out again. One of the owners, David, was super awesome and offered me a free pass to come check out a class and even offered me a great deal on a 2 week open gym membership (thank you!). I was happy to see that a lot of the gym members from prior had stayed so the environment is still very much the same fun camaraderie. Just my luck, my intro back into CrossFit was one of the open workouts 23.3 (it was a doozy). I got lucky and the head coach, Thomas, was the coach for the class I attended, and he was a SAINT for putting up with me dying at the simplest of workouts and helping me scale to things I could manage. So for those people who might be nervous about trying it for fear of looking weak or out of shape, you shouldn't fear this gym, they'll work with you and get you caught up (although maybe check that it's not the opener before you show up LOL). I love that they work with you through the motions, have an awesome warm-up that is a workout in and of itself, and like I said, if you're serious about getting into great shape this is the gym for you! Thank you Vanguard for an awesome experience.

A fridge with drinks is honor system too with water for a dollar. No onerous forms to fill out to avoid liability and no sales pitch. Owner was there and very nice. He has an adorable little dog that follows him around. Facility clean and has all the equipment you would need. Lots of aerobic machines. Guests friendly. It's not a spa. Ladies room so-so. It was clean tho. Free towels. I like that they have towels for cleaning equipment rather than wipes or paper towels. Will make this my go to gym when visiting NOLA in future.

It was the first time I learned how to use all of the machines, lift weights properly, and target specific areas. They even placed me in a small group for training when money was running tight. Everyone knew my name and gave me a warm welcome when I walked in. Coach Los and Tatyana truly changed my life by teaching me how to work out. My entire body changed and at first, I got extremely nervous because I got so muscular that my old clothes didn't fit anymore! But they talked me through it and explained that I was gainly much needed muscle and that gaining weight in my case was not a bad thing. I am so strong now and continue to use the techniques I learned from them when I lift. When I take flights and see someone struggling to get their luggage in the overhead, I just grab it and throw it up for them like I'm the Hulk!!!! : )
