I find that community and commraderie are important when it comes fitness and health; There is a strong foundation of both at Roux Fitness. What sold me on their brand and business comes down to how I was treated by the other people working out, whom we're regulars. I was assisted in modifying workouts, bit momore importantly, I was pushed and critiqued when I asked others working out to do so. Before I move to NOLA, I was committed to joining. Not only did Bradley answer all of my questions, but he also immediately met with me. On my first day, I was met with the warmest smiles and high fives. I loved the whole atmosphere and cleanliness of the gym. I have had the pleasure of working with (almost) every coach here, and the feedback and help has been AMAZING. Each coach is skilled, knowledgeable, and friendly. They are always helping members with our form and technique. I look forward to Crossfit because I genuinely enjoy pushing myself. I'm not in my best shape, but the workouts can be modified for the various ability levels. I'm the lowest level, and I am still challenged. Every time I leave, I feel so proud of myself. What I love is that there is a fundamentals class for beginners AND there are beginning weightlifting classes, as well as a sculpt class. There is something here for every level of fitness. In addition to the awesome coaches and nice facility, the members are genuinely great. They are non-judgmental and encouraging. The energy in this place is EVERYTHING! I've been at CF Roux for 1 full year. Initially intimidated by the idea of crossfit, it took so much courage to walk through the door. Those fears were immediately put to rest by Bradley and the staff's welcoming and friendly dispositions. At Roux I found folks at all levels of age & fitness, having a great time together. I hadn't been in a 'real gym' for 10 years, although committed to running and yoga. The coaches have been more helpful and patient than I could ever have hoped for, teaching me everything from step 0 and I never felt overwhelmed. Can we also stop the myth that Crossfit makes you fat? Donuts make you fat. After living my whole life with decent exercise & eating habits, being around Roux has me in the best shape of my life. Building muscle is one thing, and if you apply yourself you'll see your body change for the better. Moreover, you'll absorb so much helpful information just being there. If you have specific fears or dreams, talk to the coaches! They'll help you get there. My time at Roux has blown my mind and completely changed the way I do fitness. (caution: this is more of a testimonial then a review) I started Crossfit Roux in May 2013. After about 14 months, I'm down 19 pounds & 2 whole pant sizes. My strength & stamina are at an all time high, & honestly I've never felt younger(I'm 31). I can see muscles in my back that I didn't know existed. I can do a pull up, which had evaded me the first 30 years of my life. I attribute this all to Crossfit Roux, the coaches, & it's members. Crossfit, of course, is highly beneficial physically, but the mental part is often overlooked. In fact, I would say the things you will learn about yourself internally are far more important than any six pack or muscle. Your self confidence is going to sky rocket. You'll feel a sense of accomplishment at the conclusion of each class. Your sex life will more than likely improve. You'll meet new friends & bond with people you've never thought you get along with. Basically, your overall quality of life is bound to increase! If you're stuck in a funk with work or personal life, or have put on a few pounds, it's a great way to counteract those things. I was to a point where I couldn't stay motivated going to a normal gym. I didn't have a workout buddy to push me. I wasn't sure what workouts to do, & on what days. A few weeks into Crossfit Roux, & I learned that this is all included in the experience. The coaches come up with great workouts each day, and the same faces are there each day to push you to your limit. Those were 2 huge pluses for me. So if you're looking to jump into Crossfit, I am recommending Crossfit Roux. Cliff notes below: -Coaches are great. Friendly, skilled, energetic, & always improving -The workouts are fresh. CrossFit Roux has moved to a new and improved location on River Road. It is super convenient to get to from Uptown, there are a few more trainers, and now they have a cheap Fundamentals class for beginners! My favorite thing is I've brought some friends here who are interested in CrossFit, but who are scared of it, and they love how Bradley and his team scale every movement for their ability. Crossfit Roux has been life changing for me. I started attending Crossfit workouts about two months ago and the physical transformation has been quite pleasing.Prior to this i was at a local gym and i barely went there since it was Boring.At Crossfit Roux i constantly get motivated by Bradley and other members. We have become a group of friends trying to achieve common goals. You obviously get fit and it works great as a stress reliever. I highly recommend Crossfit Roux. read more

I went here on recommendation of a friend and had a great exercise experience. Besides seeing constant facebook updates by people talking about how awesome Crossfit it is, I hadn't really thought about it for me or even had a clear idea of what it was. So I was highly interested to see what the hype was about! When I got there everyone was extremely helpful and made sure I understood the moves and that I was using the proper weights. I have been to about 10 classes thus far and have loved every one of them. Each week I think to myself either, "This is the hardest thing I have ever done!" or "I'm never going to be able to do this!" But the great thing is that I can do it and then the following week I find myself going even harder and accomplishing something even bigger! I was afraid that I was going to be intimidated entering into what I perceived to be a secret society of ridiculously athletic people, but everyone is at different levels and it is easy to differentiate the moves you are doing by varying the weights you use. In addition, no one cares if you are first or last (and I do last a lot!), it's all about being your personal best-- and that's probably the best part of the experience. The staff is extremely inviting and supportive and I have felt welcomed by Bradley into this secret society from day one. If you have never tried Crossfit before- do it! It's actually not a secret society at all! It's just a bunch of cool people working out together and supporting each other as they push themselves to be the best they can be. And though I don't have much Crossfit experience to which I can compare, this place is the best and I'm super-psyched that I get to train with the best week after week! read more

Great place. Started 2 months ago. Being 47 and not having worked out In 20 or so years, this was the perfect decision. It's up to you to do it, but you're not alone, the Roux Team is there for support. They evaluate you when you sign up, and coach you on fundamentals. They stress technique and form, creating the atmosphere of crawl before you walk before you run. The coaches are constantly watching and directing the members on proper mechanics. The other members are friendly and also very helpful. Much better than going to gym. read more

I was pleased to find a great deal at this place and even with the NOLA heat, I had a GREAT experience here! Brad and the other coaches were so nice and informative! I have to say I have definitely caught the CrossFit bug. And I absolutely love this place! The coaches are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. There is a great comradery among the members. The overall environment is welcoming, supportive and this group likes to have fun! I have been doing this for 8 months now, and love how the workouts are varied and you can scale them to your ability (which I often have to do). In these 8 months I have had body composition changes that I never achieved with diet and cardio alone. My favorite part is being surrounded by like-minded individuals of all shapes, sizes and ages in the same class, doing the same workouts, scaled to each person's ability. All of the coaches are great and take the time to look at your form, assist in making corrections and are always ready and willing to help achieve your personal fitness goals. They regularly schedule special events, (Hero wod workouts, running/speed classes, clean eating challenges, Battle of the Sexes, Metcons & Mimosas, Barbells & Beers, Bingo!), all of which ultimately bring the members even closer as a community. I pass lots of other workout facilities, including other CrossFit gyms to drive to Roux. If you have not done so, you should definitely check out this gym. I personally love it! read more

Being new to CF, I was very intimidated when i began my fundamentals classes and even more intimidated when I moved to the regular classes. All of the coaches did a great job of working with me to scale the workouts and constantly reinforced my form and movement mechanics in order to avoid injury. Besides the coaches the members of the Roux Krewe are phenomenal and are one of the perks. Everyone is super supportive and positive! I've apparently drank the Koolaid and am now hooked! read more

I've been to a couple of other area boxes, but no gym or program I have been to can compare with Roux. I came in at the bottom of the athletic scale in November and with their help was able to compete in the crossfit open this year. They never seem to help me keep reaching to be a better and better athlete and person. They are so much more than just another gym - they help with nutrition, personal development and a sense of comradre that I've never really felt before. You won't be disappointed. read more

Six months ago I walked into Crossfit Roux for my first Fundamentals class. After learning all of the movements I couldn't wait to get started. The coaches at Crossfit Roux prepared me to be safe while lifting weight I never thought I could! I've always felt comfortable asking questions and since visiting a few other Crossfit boxes I've come to realize just how special this box is! August 12, 2013, I walked into Krewe Fitness - Crossfit Roux for the first time, with a friend by my side. I was terrified, I had no idea what to expect, and I was pretty certain I would not last 5 minutes; but I was going to TRY. What I walked into was not a gym, it was a community. I was embarrassed that I was so uncoordinated, slow, and just an all around hot mess! I did not stay embarrassed long. No matter how slow I was, or uncoordinated, someone was always pushing me to keep going, or telling me I was almost done, or reminding me that I only have a few more reps or rounds, or just simply telling me, "good job". I have embraced my "last" status and know that I will not always be last, but it's ok when I am; my goal is to finish, I don't have to be first, but I have to finish. Today is February 12, 2014; I have been doing crossfit for 6 months today. This is HUGE for me, as I rarely commit to anything; but this time, I have made a commitment to myself. I am extremely proud of how far I have come; jumping, running, lifting, pull ups (assisted); these are all things I never saw myself doing, much less ENJOYING! Over the past 6 months I have exceeded my personal expectations, but I did not do it alone. I had a community of people that saw more in me than I could see. I had never met these people prior to August 12, they didn't know me, they didn't judge me, they embraced my awkwardness and helped me overcome it. Finishing a WOD is always a reason to be excited, but finishing last and having your classmates and coach congratulate you is priceless, there is no feeling like it. As much as I have accomplished in the last 6 months, I hope to accomplish more in the next 6 months. By August 12, 2014, I want to be able to do unassisted pullups (kipping and strict), I want my deadlift over 200#, I want ALL overhead lifts (except strict press) to be at least 95#, I want to do double unders, I want to do weighted lunges and overhead squats without the fear of falling. And ya know what, I will surpass all of these goals and more; because I have the absolute BEST support system in the world. Before getting involved in CrossFit, I spent the better part of 6months going to almost ever box, talking to people, comparing prices and packages, trying to find the best gym to join. I definitely made the right choice joining CrossFit Roux. Having no experience with CrossFit and all the exercises and movements, the coaches were amazing at bringing me on slowly and teaching me all the proper techniques. The coaches don't just sit around and just watch the workouts. They are constantly pushing everyone while staying on you about technique and anything that can improve the exercise. Everyone I've met there so far has been extremely nice and outgoing. The people are constantly planting things to do outside of the gym like brunch, movies, crawfish boils or just going out. From the workout program, the coaches and everyone I workout with I'm seeing amazing results and kinda have a new small family. If you are looking to get into CrossFit and want a place where you can learn and not be intimidated, this is definitely the box for you! read more
