They've even got surprisingly good hot sandwiches. All the staff is really sweet and chatty but I may be developing a harmless crush on the adorable shy boy that works there. On both sides of the Atlantic we all know what to expect at the rest stop or motorway…read moreservices - anywhere from grungy and run down to updated and bright, maybe very basic fast food with minimal service to somewhat higher standard plus a shop or two with some food basics and snacks. BUT would you expect a shop/supermarket with full service butcher, fresh baked bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, countless tempting cakes, fresh flowers and plants, wide variety of beers and ciders, many wines, champagnes, gins and so much more - I think not! But at this service stop by the motorway this is exactly what you get!! A Wholefoods or Gelmans (for you Americans) or actually even better - a farmers market with all the trimmings - Wow!! I would say unique but it isn't - I asked and there are 3 more - a second (I assume) identical one on the Southbound side of the M5 motorway and two more elsewhere in Gloucestershire. Needless to say - two thumbs up! Sadly I just wish there was one closer to home!

It's your standard Esso really with loads of choccy, crisps, sandwiches and magazines (particularly those aimed at the lonely trucker). The thing that sets it apart from the rest is its 24hr opening times. With many student halls dotted about and many students with rumbling tummies at 5am - this is good to know.

The 24hour opening is very helpful for some late night (or early morning, depending on how you look…read moreat it!) snacking. But on a more practical sense it is also very helpful in terms of getting petrol 24/7. Everyone has those moments, be it if you are the designated driver one night, or your coming back from visiting your parents and you realise your tank is in danger of drying up! 24 hour stations like this are un-sung lifesavers!
